License tagging for File:Toro y Moi - Samantha.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Toro y Moi - Samantha.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:05, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

James Blake picture

[edit]

Your picture is more recent, yes...which is why I included it at the bottom of his biography, lined up with recent years. But as a lead picture, it was very difficult to even tell it was Blake for basic identification purposes, and as for the other picture being "old"....it was taken in 2013, which was two years ago. That's hardly problematic, it's certainly not as if Blake has drastically changed his appearance or aged two decades in that time. It's simply a more appropriate picture, and I suggest you return it and leave your picture toward the bottom, corresponding with the sections on his recent career.GentleCollapse16 (talk) 08:59, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence User talk:Contributor321. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. 🎄 Corkythehornetfan 🎄 21:50, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PROMO and WP:WEIGHT. Wikipedia is not an advertisement for your college, and people from the college do not control the content in the article. Do not make the logo larger again. BMK (talk) 23:42, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Colleges and universities are not immune from the requirements of PROMO. When the seal is too large, it's effectively an advertisement for the college. Please read and understand WP:Edit warring and WP:BRD and stop reverting mu justifiable adjustment of the size of the seal on Connecticut College. If you continue to think that the seals should be huge, the place to go is the article talk page, and make your arguments there. IN the meantime, please stop reverting, you're still a new editor, and getting into numerous instances of trouble right at the beginning is not a good thing. BMK (talk) 03:48, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mistakes

[edit]

If you keep making mistakes - and learning from them as I see you are doing here - you are going to be an AWESOME editor. Rklawton (talk) 00:06, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks man. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I saw many university wiki pages and they all had the linked text, so I just ran with it. I've been trying to learn Wikipedia and learning from my mistakes has actually been the most helpful. I've been updating Seals for university wiki pages that either don't have one or have a low resolution seal because I believe people visit Wikipedia more often than the colleges' websites so it's best to make it look nice, like album covers or film posters for their respective wiki pages. Once again, thanks a lot for your edifying observations on my edits! Threemonths (talk) 19:36, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We're not here to be a substitute for college websites, we are an encyclopedia - please start thinking of us in that way. BMK (talk) 03:49, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nowhere in my response did I assert that I believed Wikipedia to be a substitute to university websites. I was SOLELY referring to the seals of universities, which are usually not on college webpages anyways. All I have been editing are the seals. This non sequitur that I do not act as if Wikipedia is an encyclopedia is untenable and childish for someone of your age. Threemonths (talk) 23:02, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Upgrading the quality of the seals on our university pages is a good and useful thing to do for the reason Threemonths noted: Wikipedia's popularity. I have no idea why BMK commented as he did. Rklawton (talk) 05:01, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Rklawton, you really have no idea what you're talking about. I have not undone any of Threemonths' changes of college seals to better quality images. What I have done is to reduce the size of numerous images to a reasonable 150px (generally) from the 200px which overwhelmed the top of the infobox and looked like an advert for the college. These were just too large, and Threemonths doesn;t seem to understand the concept of "visual balance" -- he just sees a lot of seal images at 200 (not all, by any means) and wants to keep that, without considering how they actually look on the page. That's what I deal with, in large part, and that's how I evaluate them. You've been here long enough to know that by now, and, frankly, you should have figured that out for yourself. BMK (talk) 07:21, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm scratching my head also at the aggressive response. Contributor321 (talk) 05:38, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Scratch not, I deal with people who act like idiots as if they were idiots -- so sue me. BMK (talk) 07:21, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
BMK, you're crossing the line. Threemonths is clearly open to listening and learning. Threemonths may not realize that what looks good on one screen doesn't look good on another. Getting rude about it runs against how we do things, and I'll be happy to bring up your behavior on ANI if you persist. Rklawton (talk) 16:01, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
