Introduction[edit]

I intended on using this as a throwaway account from my previous times editing with an IP but now I guess I'm stuck using this account instead otherwise I risk getting flagged for sockpuppetry. There are some rules I want to cover first: No abuse, threats or violence when deliberating with me; No threats of blocking or reporting to higher up admins to block me; Discuss politely first before producing unwanted and unfair accusations for edits that are based on good faith.

Information icon Hello, I'm Nkon21. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. The image Keshi (singer) that you uploaded appears to be copyrighted content borrowed from another website. If you are the copyright holder and would like to use this image on Wikipedia, please follow the instructions given at WP:DONATEIMAGE. This will start the process to get an OTRS ticket in place on the item proving that Wikipedia has permission to use it. Thanks! ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 19:23, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Considering that tons of other websites have already used this image, I don't see why not I could include it into Wikipedia. I'll start the process and in the meantime I do believe this image would file under public domain or free license since tons of other websites are already reproducing the same image so I don't see why not. On second thoughts, I am not the owner of this image. So I believe this image could be deleted if you want to. However, I find it strange that so many other websites are using it but it cannot be distributed to Wikipedia. Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 19:30, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your question, Wikipedia is a website that can only hold media with free licenses -- which excludes all copyrighted content. Other websites do not work in the same way Wikipedia does as they can use copyrighted images. If there is no Creative Common license that indicate that the media is free for commercial use, then it should not be used on Wikipedia. If you have other questions or are still confused, please visit WP:TEAHOUSE. Best, ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 19:35, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, since I managed to find that the image was also on Flikr, I put up a template under the licensing section. Although I am confused about the whole thing, if it needs to be deleted I don't mind, but please no blocks. Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 19:52, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Stop re-adding the image. It's copyrighted and will not be used on here. That Flickr user is obviously not the owner of the image. Thanks! ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 20:00, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know that it's copyrighted? If it's used everywhere, and is used on keshi soundcloud profile picture as well as keshi twitter page profile picture then what makes it not belong to public domain/free license? Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 20:17, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All images that do not have a free for commercial use license is copyrighted. The thing to actually consider is whether or not you can verify that the image owner (not some random uploader) has applied the license for that image. If they haven't, you may not upload them to Wikipedia. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 20:39, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted images[edit]

Warning icon If you don't understand Commons:Licensing then I advise you to stop uploading images. They will only keep getting deleted. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 21:51, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I mean I obviously read through it but how is it that screenshots of some Youtube videos usable as images on Wikipedia? How did you guys determine that they were free license? Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 21:53, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you're not going to show me the ropes and instead just let me fumble around and keep getting threatened with being blocked or hassled by administrators then I'm forced to figure out things myself without the help of you guys. So I've figured out the Youtube video needs a CC license, big deal. Unfriendly lot you are. Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 21:57, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You still don't seem to understand that the license is only valid from the original owner only, not some random uploader. Keshi is still the owner of that video you took a screenshot from, and nothing changes if some fan reuploads it with the license. It's still copyrighted because they don't own it. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 01:12, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're still ranting with an unfriendly tone. All you needed to say was "not original owner". But again, you need to confirm if it's original owner or not. So far, I haven't actually found that that image was keshi's, it might just be a behind the scenes photo. Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 10:48, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That black and white image was clearly taken from [1], so Keshi owns the image. The thing you need to verify is whether or not the image you are uploading is from the original author. I, nor other editors, are obligated to verify that for you. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 18:02, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Then how is it fair that Youtube editors can do it but this website cannot. Wikipedia isn't exactly a reliable resource but you guys pretend to uphold some sort of copyright righteousness when in reality all of Wikipedia's information is free and taken elsewhere due to the benevolence of users. Throwawayaccount4 (talk) 18:17, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just feel like you're a keshi worshipper and are willing to do anything to "protect" his image, especially holding onto copyright paranoia. I don't see things that way. I see this whole ordeal as unnecessary debate that could have been cooperative but instead, forced to do all the work instead. That's how I feel.
