Recognition for Ayyavazhi

The main reason for that Ayyavazhi hasn't declared as a seperate religion is mainly illiterecy and the low standard of living of it's followers.

The below reply is not related to Ayyavazhi contents in wiki and for your personal question, Please be patient to read this. Ok?

My district is Kanyakumari and I think Kanyakumari district hold the second rank in literecy rate in Tamil Nadu (More than 90%) But, as far as I've seen it is rare to find a degree holder from Ayyavazhi religion. Also very few children continue the education after tenth Standard in Ayyavazhi society. When compared to the others these ratio will be much, much low. So they were unaware of their religion, holy books etc. Backing this we can't say that they are Hindus. Because all of them is strict in worshipping only Vaikundar or Vaikundar as the supreme power.
(i.e) Even an illiterate man from Ayyavazhi who have not even went to school will definitely say that Vaikundar is supreme. But he did not know to tell Vaikundar's relation with the Trimurthis, Narayana etc... He do not know what Hinduism is or not even what a religion is. But if any one ask him about Hinduism or its Gods, (Siva Brahma etc..) he will definitly answer in the next moment that, "After the comming of Ayya (Vaikundar) all were gone awry and they all should not be followed". But he did not know to tell about the mythical or theological background for this (that is, why they have gone awry?) he will not be able to answer. But we may able to see him deep in his faith, worshiping no gods other than Vaikundar. He don't know to read Akilam or any other Ayyavazhi books.
The only things he holds is,
  • Deep faith only on Ayya
  • Heared some theological speeches of Ayyavazhi scholors during some religious festivals.
More over he don't know deviation of his religion from Hinduism or what relation his religion maintaines with the so called Mainstream Hinduism.
But religiously, he is considered a high qualified Ayyavazhi follower, because he deeply roots in the faith that Vaikundar is the one and only supreme power than any concepts or God-heads as per Ayyavazhi theology.
This is the situation of nearly about 80% percent of Ayyavazhi commoners.
Another minor group Worship some lower level gods (the god-heads which are found in Akilam) but still says that Ayya is the supreme and say that these gods are of lesser level. They use to argue that they are worshipping them because Ayya told about them in Akilam. Even these people says Akilam and Arul Nool only as their scripture.
Simply telling,
These people know a little about Akilam and if they found name of any godheads in Akilam they took that mere mentioning as a accrediton to worship that God, but not as important to Vaikundar. They don't know that these God-heads are mentioned for the mythical narration (to describe the continiation of history). They also don't know that the theology underlying within the myth prohibit the worship of other gods.

Even in this category, they don't go to worship these gods in Hindu temples. But instead perform panividais (poojas) for these god-heads in Nizal Thangals. Basically the worship centers are diffferent. Ayyavazhi people don't use other Hindu temples.

These people,
  • Worship Ayya as supreme and worship other lesser gods which were mentioned only in Akilam.
  • Accept Akilam and Arul Nool only as scriptures.
Apart from these,
Only a hand ful of scholors are there in Ayyavazhi who were knowledgeble enough to go through Ayyavazhi matters with research mindedness. Though they are of different views, they all sense that Ayyavazhi is different from Hinduism in one way or other. They also sense the theological, philosophical, mythical, deviations of Ayyavazhi from Hinduism.
The all above mentioned range of people will be considered only as Ayyavazhi. Because they all, in one sense or other had caught the central points of Ayyavazhi beleif,
(1)As God - Vaikundar is supreme;
(2)As Scripture - Follow only Akilam.
But because of their lack of awareness towards their religion, and because of the illiteracy they are hard to be identified. But exists within the society.
Though there are many University papers published on Ayyavazi the book "Religion and Subaltern Agency" by the Christian department from University of Madras had given a detailed study. It was publised from details collected from interviews from thirty-three top known persons who were popular theologians, commentators, orators, and editors of journals on this religious phenomenon.
This book says that Ayya vazhi is a seperate religion (not officially but religiously).
Another reason for the unawareness is because of their low standard of Living (economically) in the society. Because Tamil Nadu is one among the developed states, there may not be any body below the poverty line but more than 90 % of them will be just above the poverty line.
They worship Ayya only and accept Akilam only. They don't know any thing beyond that. They don't know to undergo a deep philosophical study over their religion and fing what to do and what not to.
This same is the situations of Nizhal Thangals. The priests (poojaries) of Thangals worship only Vaikundar as Supreme and consider Akilam only as Sacred. Still to count there are more than 8000 through ot India. See Phenemenology section in Ayyavazhi article.
The head quarters is taking several steps (recently) to bring the awareness. But I respectfully say that the result is seen positive but very slow. More over more and more University researchs are commming on Ayyavazhi related subjects only in last 10 years. So I hope there may be result soon in the matter of Official recognition.
But we can't say that only tha official recognition says the presence of a religion. Recognition may be yet to come. But it exists strongly. It was cited with valid sources.
(i.e) That is if I say that I am following 'XXXX' religion and say that I don't care that wheather a govt recognise my religion or not, I will be it's follower. And there is valid source (from University) to state the presence of that 'XXXX' religion and a large number of followers.
Does it mean that this religion 'XXXX' does not exist?
Briefly telling, The Very Poor religious and social Infrastructure led to the non-notability of Ayyavazhi and it's followers in the society. Presently the situation is, Ayyavazhi exists factually which should not be seen with an eye of Official procedures. We can't say that wikipedia can't place unofficial matters. If something is factual but is unofficial, generally factual existance should be highlighed. In other words, The lack of Official recognition doesn't meant that it does not exist.
I answer in detail because you asked that, "you seem to be very well versed with the religion".

And the way Ayyavazhi is mentioned in Religion in India article is quite simple. See very few and important points are noted. Only seven sentences.

If I was wrong any where please say, Thank you. - Paul 19:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Proposing a change at WikiProject India

Hi Deep,

I'm proposing a major change related to WikiProject India. I'm trying to build a consensus. Your suggestions/views/ideas are very much valued. Please talk about it here. Cheers. -- Chez (Discuss / Email)06:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

"Trash" page and the act of trashing

Hello Deepu, I had recently seen your note on some user's talk page regarding the act of "trashing" messages/warnings. So, I thought it is appropriate to bring such acts by another user, into your attention. Please see this and this. Further to what edit summaries say in those edits, all those messages/warnings moved to a page name called "Trash" and you can see that here. Thank you. - KNM Talk 16:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Your message on Mahawiki's page

Dear deepu, I am confused about this issue.Few admins say u can remove the warning while few dont. see my talk page where a admin has said so morever when sarvagnya did it before no admin took any action againt it impying that he didnt violate the rule.

I will certainly put back the warnings, if users like KNM, achitnis and sarvagnya do so.
Thanks. Mahawiki 10:05, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi Deepu, Thanks for the invite, I'm a little new wikipedia so I'm not so well versed. I'm interested in making a contribution, to south indian subjects, indian christians, Kerala, indian americans, diaspora, etc. I never realized wikipedia could have so many bigots. I added a piece to Indian americans in the cultural establishment on indian christian churches and seem to be getting ganged up on by a couple of guys with right-wing hindutvist POVs, they seem anti-indian christian. Check out the "Added to cultural establishment on Indian American Churches" section of the talk page to see what I mean~ [[1]]. I could just explain their idiotic actions to them, but why should I waste my time. What do you do when you have this type of discriminatory behavior. Well again thank you for invite, just tell me where I can help. --71.30.177.228 04:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Deepu, I'm in America. The Christians (Indian) ones almost always go to mainsream american churches. In the Indian diaspora, Hindus are the majority, but Muslims come much before Christians in the #'s. Also, 77.xx wishes to list nn organizations. If you look at the Japanese_American#Religion page, you would see that Christians are the majority, therefore they have a section. The religion section dpesnt have a list of every denomination of xtian's in America. We have been trying to reason with the IP saying that "Indians brought Hinduism to America, but Christianity was established in Ameria far before the trickle of Malayali people arrived". The IP has done little but call us bigots. Any more taunts, and 77.xx might really find himself at the hands of a bigot.Bakaman Bakatalk 02:45, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Baka have you nothing better do than follow me around? Your version of the story is very interesting. If Deepu looks at our discourse he will already see through the nonsense. I need to correct some aspects of your story. It was the "cultural institution" section, not the "religion" section. Why do see the need to twist the facts. Btw, Deepu is a malayali, he already knows indian-christians, especially malayali christians establish our own ethno-cultural churches. Sorry, no truth to this fantasy of all indian christians melting into the american mainstream churches. I'm not even going to waste my time answering the other stuff that was made up. Baka try to find something more constructive to do,if nobody's bothering you, don't bother other people. All this effort you make in harassing others could be put to better use. When you feel the need to jump on other people, instead try contributing a article or two to wikipedia. Deepu, sorry this came on to your page, I didn't realize these types follow you everywhere. Have a good nite all and pleasant dreams--71.30.177.228 04:26, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Great. I'm not following Deepu or you. I was going to ask Deepu about someone socking on S. Jithesh and saw you mention my name. Get an account if you're so great and I'm such a Hindutva bigot. Again, Indians brought Hinduism to America but Indians didn't bring Christianity to America. I rewrote the section anyways, and added IMC and Parsi orgs as well.Bakaman Bakatalk 02:08, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Baka, this is a little better. But 1st things 1st, do not try to twist the story by saying all you were doing is saying who brought what to America. Nothing in my statements attribute to that. You and User:Dangerous-Boy were rude by jumping on me and trying to start something negative, which had nothing to do with improving the article. None of my additions had any adverse effect on the view of hinduism, if anything it shouldn't haven't even been put falsely in that light at all. Thats called starting trouble. You two were crossing a line, if wiki policy understanding is correct, you were putting all your work in jeopardy just to go harass somebody. Now on to the second part, thanks for taking my advice and channeling your energies into something productive. I welcome the additions to the sections on the other faiths and ethnic organizations as we need to portray how diverse the Indian-american community is. I told you that was a good idea, you should come up with more without the sarcasm. I will probably add a couple more things to give a clearer and more indepth picture, but I must say you did some work there. I wish you added a little more diversity in some of the institutions(different regions, unique organizations, NSS SNDP, Mar Thoma, Aga Khan's), but we can work that in later. Oh and post next time you change a whole section that another person contributed to, as I know I would like to know any changes of my words, its the polite thing to do. Deepu sorry to keep using your page as a talk board, everyone have a goodnight--71.30.177.228 04:24, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Log in, and you'll get the watchlist function, which allows you to view changes anyways. D-Boy suggested the "bringing to America" section anyways, which you dismissed as "Hindutva propaganda". I think Deepu would be interested in this anyways.Bakaman Bakatalk 02:08, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Also

. I never changed my words.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:11, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. I notice that the situation has calmed now. I'm slightly baffled as to what actually triggered this row. If I am correct, Baka and D-Boy might be reffering to this comment (the one that is being removed). As far as I can see, there are no indications that 71.x.x.... added that particular statement to the article. His edits to the article (namely these) seem to be good faith edits too. Something I'm missing, perhaps? Or was it all due to some confusion? Also, lets keep the convo civil and free of personal attacks, please. Cheers,--thunderboltz(Deepu) 16:09, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Um I happened to stroll by the page when I was adding a slew of entries into Category:Indian Americans . Dboy and 71 seemed to be arguing anyways, but I thought a gigantic section listing every denomination was unencyclopedic. I still observe that most Indian xtians who aren't Malayali are absorbed into mainstream churches (see Dilip D'Souza, Ramesh Ponnuru, K.A. Paul). Anyway I just rewrote the section to add allthe minority groups. In notability they are still nothing close to HSS , BAPS, or the numerous Samaj's and Sangams in America, which is why I added the ethnolinguistic sabhas as wellBakaman Bakatalk 16:18, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I meant that they dont normally go to church with solely Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan. I meant that they go to "mainstream American" churches (ie Majority White). I hope this clears it up. Malayali's I think, go to both Mainstream and ethnolinguistic churches.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:40, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello Deepu,

So what is the status about S. Jithesh? Actually I was going through the Tug Wars between some users regarding this topic. As I understood people voting for deletions are not expert in that field (In this case Literature), but they are really expert in some other topics. Some users are expert in the subject but they do not understand languages like Malayalam. So in my opinion the only solution is that before deleting any article, should ask advice to the experts in that field, in this case Literature, secondly go through the previous articles written by the user related to the same subjects (Literature etc.).

This means in English: "Since the April 20th 2006 the company "Internetbrands" is the owner of this website (Wikitravel), which is now also used for commercial pupose."

I understand now why you don't know. It is not menioned on the first page of the English Website of Wikitravel, only at the German one.

This edition special
  • Cartography Department (Shortcut:WP:INMAP): The Department of Cartography within the WikiProject India is a group of wikipedians who work on providing quality maps related to India. Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Contact the Cartography Department to learn how you can help in making the best maps in Wikipedia to be India-related!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may mention it at WikiProject India Outreach Department.

Re:Vidya Balan

Hello Deepujoseph! I would be glad to explain the revert war to you. Bollywood uses an intentionally neutral language-- Hindustani so it can reach the widest possible audience: speakers of Hindi and speakers of Urdu. Because the film industry's lanuguage is in Hindi-Urdu and film covers (i.e. Image:Awaaraposter.jpg, Image:Waqt 1965 film poster.JPG, Image:Sholayposter2.jpg, Image:Padosan film poster.jpg) give the language in both scripts, all Bollywood related articles (films, actors, songs, etc.) utilize both the Devanagari and Perso-Arabic script. When the issue was discussed and polled on the Talk:Bollywood page, an overwhelming majority of participants wanted to keep both the Devanagari and Perso-Arabic scripts of the Hindi-Urdu (Hindustani) language (see first discussion, poll, and second discussion). The arguments are evinced here. The following policy was made: If someone adds Devanagari, that's fine. If someone wants to add Perso-Arabic, that's fine too. So far, we've just had a policy against deleting Perso-Arabic or Devanagari once someone adds it. As a result, reverts have been made when the Urdu script was removed on the Vidya Balan (and other) articles. I hope this helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. Thanks! Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. The move button has now acquired special powers, and there's even a feature to roll back time. With such awesome new powers at my fingertips I will try to tread lightly to avoid causing irreversible damage and getting into any wheel wars. Thanks again and let me know whenever I can be of use.

I need your help. Some users, have made personal attacks on me saying I am anti-Christian, I was hoping you could help me out, especially in light of the compromise I made with the IP guy where we made the Indian American article more encyclopedic. Also this page Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Hkelkar/ might be of interest for you as well. Thanks.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:47, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

The new boxes certainly look better. Re. color, enikku inganathe karyathil oru tasteum illa :-( So it is better not to suggest anything. Btw, do we need to update the news manually everyday, or can it sourced from somewhere else ? Tintin (talk) 08:14, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
