ACC - Request #23412

Hi There,

I was just going over recent ACC actions and noticed that you made a mistake on Request 23412. You marked it as "Similar", however the similar account was made before User creation logs were kept (this was several years ago) and had no contributions. It is convention that if a similar account was made over a year ago and has no contributions to make the requested account. I have since made the account and sent the user an email explaining the mistake. This notice is purely a FYI to avoide future mistakes. Thanks for your continued contribution to the ACC program.   «l| Ψrometheăn ™|l»  (talk) 11:46, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my notice. If you see my user creation logs, I seldom mark users as similar. In this particular case, Altough the other user doesnt have the any contribution yet, both the usernames were exactly similar ( only difference being one in CAPS). Supposing the other user returning after a long time , I just wanted to be safe and assumed it is no big deal for the new username requester to try another username. I would have still allowed for the username creation if there were atleast some difference like "username" and "username123". Btw my first edit on my username was almost one year after its creation. Hence so my judgement... Anyways thanks for bringing your concerns here. Have a gr8 day -- Tinu Cherian - 04:43, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter : Issue XXXVI (February 2009)

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter Issue XXXVI (February 2009)
From the Coordinators
This month has been interesting for MILHIST, as we reorganized a few departments. The Outreach Department has been replaced by the tabs at the top of our totally redesigned project page; thanks to Kirill for the design and Bellhalla for the logo. We also created the Academy, a hub for practical advice about creating, editing, and reviewing quality content. All project members are cordially invited to fill in some of the red links, and new ideas are always welcome.
As you can see on the right, our A-class and featured content is growing quite rapidly; these numbers have now gone up by 45 for the second straight month! Great work! In addition, thanks go out to those who recently helped in reducing the A-class nominations backlog. Reviewers are still needed; if you feel up to it, please stop by and leave comments on an article—every review helps!
Lastly, the contest results for the month: Bellhalla took the cake again with 77 points and gets the Chevrons, while Ian Rose gets the Writer's Barnstar for his 60 points. Other participants included Bryce (49 points), Cam (25), David Underdown (11), Kirk (5), Parsecboy (20), Piotrus (?), Rosiestep (3), the_ed17 (27), Wild Wolf (6), and YellowMonkey (35). 51 total articles were improved as part of this.

Inclusion of other territories of Goa (India)

Dear Tinu,

As suggested by you we have now put our request on the talk page (discussion page) of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India. We have also submitted references as requested by you. Changes to the 'Administrative Divisions' has to happen on the India page (not Goa page) because this territory does not come under Goa jurisdiction. It is a separate territory of India.

For your kind information we are not vandalising in any way, it is just that we are new to wiki editing. Sorry, please bear with us. --Gaunkars of Goa (talk) 08:44, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Kindly respond at Wikipedia_talk:INB#Comunidades_Of_Goa_.3F as I have no much idea of Goa history -- Tinu Cherian - 09:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, this is sickening. I guess editors are free to have what they like in their userpages, as long as it is not a copyright infringement or political propaganda of some sort. It isn't in Wikipedia namespace, so claims of it being India-biased are inconsequential as long as it is not located in the project namespace.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 04:08, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Great Power

Hey, I need your opinion on something. [1], Me and several other users have been arguing with Chanyka on the Great Powers article about the inclusion of Italy and India as great powers, however, me, and a majority of the users have told him that the source does not say that India and italy are great powers. Since you are a good editor, and an admin, do you agree? Deavenger (talk) 03:34, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey... I am NOT an admin :) ( Do I look like one ? :P ) ...btw let me review this and will tell my comments. Thanks -- Tinu Cherian - 04:30, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi! Could you assess this article? I could very well make a request in WP:IN but it would take time for response and this is very urgent businesss as the article is currently a DYK nom, with the decision being delayed.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 04:00, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

TinuBot

Hi Tinu!

If you remember we spoke about using Tinubot to tag Computer security articles. I didn't see your reply to the affirmative until months later in your archive. If you are still willing, we have identified the first of those categories for him. It is obviously, Category:Computer security. I also see some subcategories that could be tagged: Category:Security exploits, Category:Security software, Category:People associated with computer security, and Category:Hacking (computer security). I'm not sure if your bot will tag the subcategories within Category:Computer security, so I wanted to include them. Sephiroth storm (talk) 20:47, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok I will do it soon, but do you still want to use WP:CSEC banner instead of WP:COMP banner as all articles of WP:CSEC will also be anyways tagged by WP:COMP? 09:18, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
WPCSEC please. As far as the bot, does it just do the articles within each categories? or will it go through the subcategories? Sephiroth storm (talk) 13:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I'll do that . IT can, But I prefer to manual feed the set of categories after removing the false positive categories, than allowing the bot to run over them recursively -- Tinu Cherian - 13:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
No problem. If you need anything, let me know. Sephiroth storm (talk) 08:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Any Idea when TinuBot will be avalible for this? Sephiroth storm (talk) 18:01, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, Sephiroth. I got busy with my real life commitments. I will definitely do it tmrw, India time. ( it is 12:00 am and i am running to bed now ) -- Tinu Cherian - 18:25, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Working on this now -- Tinu Cherian - 14:29, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Done : Sephiroth, I have tagged all the main level categories given by you above ( some 500 articles) with TinucherianBot (talk · contribs · count). I did NOT tag the sub categories as I need time for verifiying for false positives on each of the categories. Can you do me a favour? Can you shortlist all the project relavent categories which need to be tagged by the bot. I will then surely tag them. It is dangereous to allow my bot to run blind recursively on categories and hence this request. Btw I have noticed you haven't created WP1.0 Assessment categories for the banner {{WikiProject Computer Security}} . Do you want my bot to create them too ? -- Tinu Cherian - 04:56, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Timestamping so that it doesnt get archived until Seph replies -- Tinu Cherian - 04:20, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Indian villages

Example

Hi buddy. What happened to the bot proposal afterwards because I still think it could greatly help improve coverage of Indian villages there is a huge amount missing. I also have two recommednations for the infobox jurisdiction. It is a big improvement from before but still one of two issues. One, remove the timezone from the top at a main banner as it distracts your attention and place it at the bottom as with standard templates. Second please reconsider the current locator maps we are using with the myriad of colours and allow me to recolor the existing ones to more appealing colours e.g the same colour and then a light green in the background. If I do one as an example how do I get these suggestions changed in the infobox now Nichalp has gone? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:02, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I am stuck at the project bcoz my primary data source http://www.censusindia.gov.in/ website is down. I will gear up when it is back online. Regarding the infobox india jurisdiction template, i would suggest proposing at WT:INB. Btw the exit of Nichalp is a big loss to WP:INDIA and the WP community as a whole :( -- Tinu Cherian - 05:00, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
