Wikiproject West Bengal

Is Wikiproject West Bengal dead. If so, can it be revived (I can try to do so if needed). I recently asked for help about the article West Bengal but then realised that most of the requests had been left unanswered. nationalist editor

Dear user and administrator, I found some editors in your area who persistently erase references I introduced, claiming personal opinions. These actions are visible in the pages:

Vlachs: 20:48, 24 February 2018‎ Zoupan (talk | contribs)‎ . . (38,282 bytes) (-3,502)‎ . . (rewrite intro and etymology according to subject and reliable sources) (undo)

In this case an article was completly changed by a vandalic intervention of Zoupan editor. An article is good one year and disappeared in a single day (-3,502 characters and references erased). All references are appreciated only from nationalistic point of view. In former Yugoslav countries the Vlach minority is persecuted.

this article was blocked by you after Staszek and Zoupan erased several times the references about the existence of a Vlach minority in Croatia. There are references about this minority but they have a nationalistic approach and refuse the references about the Vlachs/Morlachs from Croatia. (especially the census)

(Reverted edits by 86.124.160.242 (talk) to last version by Staszek Lem) (Tag: Rollback) where the Staszek and even Zoupan erased several times the word Vlachs and some references about Vlachs/Morlachs. Vlachs or Morlachs are mentioned as authors of the Hasanaginica ballad by the person who descovered the ballad, Alberto Fortis. Fortis is a prymary source because he lived and spoked with Vlachs or Morlachs during the time he found this ballad. Vlachs or Morlachs are considered by Fortis as authors of ballad. So the name of Vlachs is better to be in the text, being indicated by a primary source. Other opinions are welcomed but without mitigating the role of a minority like Vlachs.

Please review these articles and try to understand why nationalistic approach of former Yugoslav countries editors fight to mitigate the existence of Vlach/Morlach minority. I hope the ethics of Wikipedia will be applied in the pages you control, avoiding exagerate nationalism and original research.

Even if you believe that MSW was here to advocate a certain view of religion (a contention which I do not agree with) POV-pushing and trolling are quite different. Guideline and policy news

Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Arbitration

The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

From Indian nationality law#History Wikipedia article:

Indians resident and born in British India came under the direct dominion of and bore allegiance to the British Crown, and held the status of British subject. From 1 January 1915, the British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act 1914 defined British subjects as those born or naturalised in the British Sovereign's dominions (including British India), women married to men born or naturalised in the aforementioned Crown dominions and children legitimately born to a British subject father anywhere in the world.^[1]

Indians resident and born in a princely state (also known as an "Indian state" or a "Native state") under the British Raj, or in any other British protectorate or protected state under the British government, held the status of British protected person.^{[note 1]} This status extended to the wives and legitimate offspring of male subjects of those states. British protected persons were considered de jure foreigners, but could travel on British-issued passports.

A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

Technical news

AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Lankiveil (Craig Franklin) passed away in mid-April. Lankiveil joined Wikipedia on 12 August 2004 and became an administrator on 31 August 2008. During his time with the Wikimedia community, Lankiveil served as an oversighter for the English Wikipedia and as president of Wikimedia Australia.

Hi Titodutta. I'm looking into the use of bengalimovies.org as a reference, and was hoping if you might have some insight into what the website is/was. You used it here. I've only started looking at it, and my impression that it was a blog of some sort, possibly hosting copyright-violating copies of videos, and now simply a advertising redirect. This is not as reliable as The Times of India, Telegraph, and we need better references. In 2012 and that time, there were a few websites which used to have some information on Bengali (specially newly released and upcoming). I do not remember their videos, but they had a news portal. The next article with bengalimovies.org was created by you, Sonali Chowdhury [4], with bhalobasa.in, gomolo.com, and calcuttaweb.com as the additional references. I'd already identified as bhalobasa.in as an unreliable blog, and gomolo.com as probably unreliable given the user-submitted content. I don't have notes about calcuttaweb.com, but it looks like a blog that grew into an advertising portal. At that time, some of the websites were the only available sources, or being updated regularly. Of course, your question now is valid. However now, I do not know what else to say. I'll try to write in details. These days, I am a little busy with some works, however I am trying to reply as soon as possible. In 2012 so I started to create and improve Bengali film related articles on Wikipedia. Then working on these articles were difficult for multiple reasons including lack of online sources. Some of the mentioned websites such as Gomolo, or Bengali Movies (now domain expired), actually had film portals, and up to date information. 2012 was also the time when I started editing.
Now, if you question the reliability of Gomolo, I have to agree and try to look for better sources. I searched on Wikipedia and found at least 500 links to Gomolo (most of these articles I never edited). Let's start with Gomolo, I feel. --Titodutta (talk) 18:52, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Blofeld retired? I didn't know that. I am thinking about which tool or bot can be used. Manual work will be tedious, however I am ok for it if we have no option.
