Violation of Wikipedia guidelines[edit]

I'm sure it's inadvertent, but I need to ask you to stop adding links to your (or a) commercial auction/sales sites. Wikipedia disallows use of its pages for links to sales sites such Comic Art Community, which contains pages such as this.

I understand what you're saying. However much traffic it gets, or whether it's turning a profit is, I'm afraid, outside the point. The site is still an auction site, so links to it are considered advertising under Wikipedia policy and guidelines. --Tenebrae 18:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're free to contact an administrator, though they will say the same thing. I will tell you that a notice about your linkspam has already appeared, independently, posted by another editor, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics. User:Skyelarke has attempted to add your auction-site link to John Buscema. You may or may not have been aware, and you may or may not have any connection to User:Skyelarke. I think you should be made aware that because of his action it has become an issue in a current Request for Mediation. (See Talk:John Buscema.)

Hi Tman,

I'd just like to say that I don't believe that you are in violation of Wikipedia guidelines in adding the John Buscema link - the point referred is a general guideline - not an restrictive, enforceable policy - and your explanation as to the nature and intentions of adding the link seems reasonable and acceptable to me. As I've mentioned above, an Administrator can make that call if anyone wishes, though I know no case where an auction site is considered an allowable link. At least two editors have felt it clearly does violate guidelines, and Wikipedia works on consensus. And Skyelarke has been in violation of Wikipedia policies, which is a point to keep in mind regarding advice from him.

Incidentally, that link to "useful" information is simply a link to Skyelarke's own user page. An honest link is The Five Pillars of Wikipedia. --Tenebrae 13:17, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
