Joanna's reply to suggested articles for revision

[edit]

I agree that the "mentorship" page is quite limited. I actually think it's in rough enough shape that it might not be worth tackling; however, I did a quick search and found there's a separate page on "youth mentoring". The page itself is in decent shape, but there are certainly multiple sections that could be added. For instance, there's nothing about conceptual models of mentoring (e.g., Rhodes model), and I don't think there's much info summarizing the research on benefits of mentoring in the US. It does have an international focus, which I'm not in a position to assess b/c I don't know that literature, but there are definitely ways in which you could build on the current foundation.

I think the same goes for the "positive youth development" page that you mentioned. It's in good shape, but I could see you developing new sections on something like "Theoretical Models of PYD", and discussing the 40 assets model, 5 C's model, etc. Another section might be "research on PYD", or something along those lines.

So I'd rule out the "mentorship" page and the "mentor" page, but I think the youth mentoring or PYD pages could provide a great opportunity for you to contribute. -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 14:36, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! That was very helpful advice. - Theresa

Potential Change to the youth mentoring page:

I would like to add more information on Current Research in the field. Although I am considering adding a section to specifically cover this, I think the inclusion of the paragraph in my sandbox would still provide a good overview and, if I decide that route, I can always use this as an opening paragraph. Should I continue with APA format as I have done? Is this paragraph within guidelines?

I've made the above change to the site.

Nice work, Tanya. It's exciting to see your contribution on that page and I think it flows really well! -Joanna Jml4bw (talk) 20:02, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have outlined the following article to focus on for the Wikipedia project: youth mentoring I plan to include an overview on the research that exists on youth mentoring. This will focus on the research that rejects and supports the argument that mentoring leads to positive benefits. - Theresa
