Teddington School[edit]

Hi its not that there is anything specifically 'wrong' its just that as I said in my edit previously WP:WPSCHOOLS WP:WPSCH/AG suggests that lists that can be found on the relevant websites should not be in the main article and you have again added in lists re Ofsted, exam results etc. Paste _{Let’s have a chat.} 12:30, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK - so this is the right place to respond in this case - Talk pages (not User pages) are the place to talk. Given that I started a conversation here with you about the page, this is probably the best place to have the conversation. It could also have taken place on my talk page (not my user page - check the tab at the top left of the page!!) or the article talk page. I'd have seen it in any of those places - not everyone would do though so sometimes, if someone doesn't respond, you need to give them a nudge on their Talk page - you'll always see that as it will pop up at the top of the page.

When you write on any talk page you should "sign your posts" at the end by typing 4 tilde symbols - that's the ~ symbol. Four in a row at the end - that sticks your signature on the post and dates it. It really helps keep track of the conversation. Then, when you reply to me, you should put a colon (a :) in front of each paragraph you type - that was your text will be indented and it will be easier to follow. Don't worry if you can't get that bit right here - I'll correct you as needed.

Now, on my User page you said:

You have undone everything I have written without looking specifically at each part. Can you please be specific as to what you describe as advertising?

OK - so for starters, I did read everything. Trust me. My first objection is that the text is clearly promotional in nature. The Progress 8 figures, for example, aren't yet published by the government and, quite frankly, I wouldn't trust any school published figures (trust me, I work in a school...). And if we're going to cite anything like that then we need to be citing a more reliable source - not one connected to the subject of the article (i.e. not the school's own website - although that might be OK for things like the headteacher's name or the history of the school).

Then, on both articles, you'd included phrases which referred to "our" values or similar. You absolutely can't do that - we need to write in an objective, third person way on Wikipedia. It may be that some of that was copied and pasted, perhaps from the school website? We would call this a copyvio (a copyright violation) - and it's a major no-no on wikipedia. So that stuff certainly had to go.

As you can see, I've removed some of the detail from the quotes from Ofsted and done the references properly - the Villiers one was dodgy in the way it referenced anyway. We really don't need *that* much detail on things like this - we get the point, it's a school Ofsted liked when they came. What might be nice would be a quote from the media about the school by someone - the chair of governors, the head, the local authority or something. If you can find a local paper where there's something about that then a shortish sort of quote would be handy - don't go overboard.

If there is something long term and notable about exam results then that will also be in the local press. We have to be **very** careful about time sensitive exam result information though - which, in my view, is why it might be better to have longer term stuff only. Again, get it from the press - they should tell you if this is a school that has consistently performed well, for example. Where that goes I'm not sure, but separate sections for GCSE and A Level we don't need - maybe along with the Ofsted stuff, I'm not sure.

In my view we don't need anything about the schools values - trust me, every school wants to be inclusive and have kids do well. Unless it's somewhere like Summerhill School, the values really aren't notable. What might be notable is stuff like the quote that was used on the Did you know back in 2010 - it's on the article talk page. Can we find more on that sort of thing - the Ofsted quote I left in was deliberate as I know Southall is a diverse area and would work well along side that.

So, there's some thoughts. Your starter for 10 is to respond to this (remember the 4~ at the end!!!!) in some way (even if it's "I don't agree"!). Then take a look and see what the press are saying (but bear in mind that very local press can be little better than adverts for schools!).
