I think everyone appreciates your input on the John Jacobs article. The problem is that Wikipedia cannot rely on the personal qualifications of editors to correct articles. For one thing, no one really knows if a given contributor is who s/he says s/he is, so although you bring valuable experience and research -- it kind of doesn't matter here. Second, Wikipedia's guidelines require citing of sources. It's all about verifiability, not about who has done research or who was where at what time. Many of the changes you made may be accurate, or not. But they need citation. The article as written has those: The paragraph on Columbia '68 has citations at the end for everything in that section; published sources clearly attribute "Serve the People" to Old Left Americans, not Mao Tse-Tung. If published sources disagree, then that disagreement should be noted, rather than the article altered to fit one version over another. Third, The section on the Columbia University protests of 1968 isn't meant to be a full treatment of those events. There's an article on that already. Expanding that section gives undue weight to the events, instead of focusing on Jacobs' role.

I strongly urge you to help improve the article on the Columbia University protests of 1968, and Days of Rage. They are in very poor shape, and need extensive rewriting as well as citations. - Tim1965 (talk) 23:59, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
