Re: your comments at Talk:Naked short selling[edit]

Tommy, here are some things that will be useful to you as you help us build a better article at Naked short selling:

  • Always sign your posts (with four tildes ~~~~) on Talk pages, such as Talk:Naked short selling. It makes it easier to follow the conversation.
  • If you want to cite a source, the rest of the article is linking to the external links right after the information they provided. You accomplish this by inserting [http://www.linkname.com] where you want the [1] to appear.
  • The page is currently semi-protected because of major editing conflicts in the recent past. You will be able to edit the page after 4 days of being a registered user; for now, leave a note on the Talk page of the article, or on my User talk page if you would like something changed.
  • If you need any other help, check out Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Thanks for your contributions as we try to make this a more balanced and accurate encyclopedia. (ESkog)(Talk) 14:43, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. "Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia. Comment on content, not on the contributor. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users." Please keep this in mind while editing. Thanks,--Mantanmoreland 18:26, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will abide by these, I'm new to WIKI and I think it's great. Sorry Mantamoreland for being harsh on you.--tom 19:48, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: I need help[edit]

Tommytoyz, I took a look at that page and it looks pretty good! Very detailed. The thing it's lacking most at this point is "wikification", which is a made-up word to represent all of the things that wikis offer, such as formatting, layout, and [[wikilinks]]. Every article is immensely interconnected with wikilinks, and you can do that by simply surrounding a word or phrase with brackets, as above. If there is an article about that word or phrase, a blue link will appear. If you want to link to an article but have the textual link say something else, you can use piping, like this: [[Test|this is the text that will appear with a link to the Test article]]. Each article should have an introductory paragraph (or paragraphs) "above the fold" (i.e., before any heading). Also, you should take a look at the manual of style, which will help with things like bolding headings (which shouldn't be done) and other stylistic points. I'll go through the article in a bit and do what I can; unfortunately, this is not my area of expertise so I may not be able to do a good job. Thanks for your help, I'll be going into it when I have time next Monday. Have a nice weekend all--tom 19:50, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: POV forking[edit]

It wasn't Mantanmoreland, but me who nominated the page for deletion. I have gone into a bit more detail at Talk:Naked short selling, but the short answer is that it violates our guideline on content forking. You shouldn't be scared to edit Naked short selling - I'll make sure nobody reverts your edits on sight as long as you continue to use reliable sources (which you have done a good job of so far). Please do keep your edits on that topic to the main page though, and don't create other articles on the same subject. It looks like you are trying to avoid the discussion/consensus-building process to promote your own point of view, which I know is not your intent. (ESkog)(Talk) 00:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not make personal attacks on other people. Wikipedia has a policy against personal attacks. In some cases, users who engage in personal attacks may be blocked from editing by admins or banned by the arbitration committee. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Please resolve disputes appropriately. Thank you. Sceptre (Talk) 17:49, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your comments on Talk:Naked short selling[edit]

Please be more careful to try to assume good faith from your fellow editors and maintain civility. I am troubled by the tone of many of your comments such as "You have been warned..." and "... is a violation of WIKI policy", which seem to be trying to intimidate other users to adopt your point of view. Thanks for your contributions. (ESkog)(Talk) 00:02, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Naked Short Selling[edit]

Some of the changes you are making to this article, in the course of your edit war, border on vandalism. I strongly suggest that you take a few steps back from the article and take some time to work on other things. If this situation goes to arbitration, some of your recent actions will definitely be used as evidence against you.

If you don't take a break to cool off, I would also advise you to keep the WP:3RR rule in mind. You can be banned immediately and without warning for reverting other users' contributions more than 3 times in a 24 hour period. Please don't take that as a threat (I am not an administrator, and cannot ban you) but just as some friendly advice. Kafziel 16:21, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kafziel, the removal and deletion of my work in the same time period by one party is also considered vandalism if yu apply this logic evenly, do you agree? Or does you logic only apply to me? Did you leave a similar message with the other party constantly shadowing me and deleting what I do, or just here with me? I'd like to know.--tom 01:16, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't leave a message for him. I usually do leave messages like this for both parties involved, but in this case the article history shows that his edits have been more responsible and his discussions more productive. I felt that in this case, it warranted a personal note just to you. As I said, I didn't mean it to be taken as a threat; it was just advice, because I have been in your situation before.
By the way, it was probably an accident, but signing out and making edits using an anonymous IP address doesn't help the situation either. Especially when working on this article, be sure to sign in before you edit so nobody takes it the wrong way. Good luck, and I hope you'll take my suggestion to go work on something else for a while.
