There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

Hi, I was blocked for suggesting / requesting (on a talk page, not via edit) a link to my site (TONMO.com) as an External link to support the Cuttlefish wikipedia page, which references resources on my site already (twice). I find the block to be unusually harsh treatment; it was just a suggestion and I did not submit an edit. There were two reasons for the block, 1) promotion, and 2) username. I'm happy to change my username to TonyM. Further, I won't be making such suggestions going forward, even though I find that to be non-collaborative. I am not paid by anyone to submit the request, and the site is a hobby for me.

Decline reason:

OK, but what kinds of edits will you make? As it stands, all you've done so far is promote your website. If you're uninterested in donating your time to write encyclopedia articles, maybe Wikipedia isn't for you. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Responding to the above, a few points I'd ask you to consider: 1) To be clear (and to be sure I'm not mistaken on functionality), I originally sought to edit the article and add my reference to the External Links section -- but when I submitted it, I got warnings about promotions (I had never seen that before - I've been using Wikipedia for well over 15 years, but admittedly I very rarely contribute any edits). I was given the option to cancel, or publish anyway. Since I did NOT want to violate any guidelines, I chose to cancel, and added the request for consideration to the "Talk" portion of the page, which I assumed would be reviewed by the people who manage the page, to take my reference request into consideration. My intention was to take a careful approach and to be respectful of the article's authors. 2) "Promotion" is a strong term here, usually coupled with promotional language (e.g., "the #1 resource!"); I don't do this; I considered it reference material. There are many cephalopod articles that were authored by others and included a link to my site in their External Links section. As an avid Wikipedia reader, I find that *relevant* external resources help add value to Wikipedia as a resource. I was simply trying to add value -- true, there is an inherent "benefit" in terms of raising awareness about my site, but it comes with the inherent value of the resource -- in my mind, that is an ethical contribution. But, I won't be doing that any more, obviously -- I'd just prefer not to be banned since I was not out to take advantage of any one or any platform. Further, to the first point, I certainly wasn't expecting it would be inappropriate to *suggest* edits to articles; in fact I thought that was the core purpose of collaborative content creation. Decline reason:

You must choose a new user name. I'll sift through the vast talk page content and see if you chose one w/o using the rename template. You must affirm that you not link to or edit about Tonmo or anything with which you have a real world connection.   Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:16, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We already have a TonyM. Please make another selection.  Dlohcierekim (talk) 17:19, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How about floyd73? Also -- I do now better understand the guidelines, and I will not link to or edit about Tonmo or anything with which I have a real world connection. tonmo (talk)
