Boyce Building
Can you get me a free pic of the Boyce Building on North Dearborn? It's on the National Register of Historic Places and I'm working on William D. Boyce. I'd really appreciate it. Re:Master editor
Yeah, I am gonna end up overtaking you, my one GAR (which is still going on) + the 12 GANs I have will bring me to 121 Good Articles. As per this, this really the first article of mine brought to GAR, Huletts Landing, New York, so I've never really had to deal with that. As per the math, I currently have 1.999% of the GA count. When my next one passes, it'll go over 2 percent. But, hey, you're my idol with Good Articles, and I am really surprised that you are watching me with them. - OK the upload hasn't tied up my Internet connection that much ... but I can still notice the difference. At a guess I'd say the Firefox search searches for articles containing only the phrase, whereas the NYT search searches for articles with the words in any order. Need your advice/opinion
I was writing an article about the Ineligibility Clause of the Constitution (commonly and incorrectly referred to as the "Emoluments Clause". The current rough draft of the article is in my user space here. But then I noticed that you wrote an article about the Saxbe fix, so I was wondering: Should I still go forward with adding the article about the clause itself, and merge some of your content with mine, or should I scrap it altogether? I think this is an important enough subject to warrant an article on both the clause and the "fix", but I wanted to know your opinion first. --Eastlaw (talk) 23:51, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- We can't redirect it, because there is already an article on the Emoluments Clause (the real one, about foreign titles of nobility). As if any casual reader is going to know what the hell that means. It seems to me that the best way to organize the information in these articles is to have an article on the clause itself, with the "Saxbe fix" as either a separate article or a separate section of the article on the clause. Possible solution to Ineligibility Clause/Saxbe fix problem
All right, I think I've figured out a workable solution to this whole thing.
I've been drafting articles on U.S. Constitutional law for WP:LAW for a while now. We have a whole list of Constitutional Articles and Clauses on {{US Constitution}}, which I have put a lot of work into organizing (in fact, I've written a bunch of those articles myself). You want to have another WP:DYK nomination for your already immense (and quite impressive, IMO) list of Wikipedia awards & recognitions. So here is what I propose we should do:
The article on the Clause itself (which I will title Ineligibility Clause) will contain mostly information about the history of the clause, why i was drafted, and its potential applications. This article will have a hatnote to disambiguate it from the Emolument Clause. It will also have a "see also" or "main article" cross-reference to your article, Saxbe fix, which will discuss the history and legal issues of the fix itself.
This is similar to what was done with the articles on the Commerce Clause, Dormant Commerce Clause, and Market participant exception, since the first article deals with the text of the clause itself (and a bit on its history and interpretation), and the latter two deal with doctrines and practices which are implied from the text (i.e., other applications of the clause and how it works out in the real world and the courts).
Of course, this does not guarantee either of us a spot on DYK, but I think it is a better way of organizing all the information for the long-term betterment of the project as a whole. - I don't think your article is unnecessary, nor do I mind that you put it in the US Constitution template. In fact, I would have put it in the same place you put it. But it may take a while to fully integrate & organize all the info in both articles.
- I hope I haven't inconvenienced you too badly. I didn't want you to think I was trying to steal a WP:DYK or WP:GA nomination out from under you, as this was certainly not my intent. It's just that I started researching this stuff last night, and I figured "who else would be enough of a law geek to write an article about this crap?" So I will gradually implement some changes; meanwhile, I appreciate any additional input you have. Also, good luck with your legal battles. Litigation (especially with state governments) is a pain in the ass. - P.S. You may want to check out this law review article by a USMC judge advocate, about the clause. He is arguing against the constitutionality of the Saxbe fix. The footnotes of the DOJ memoranda should be right at the bottom of the document. If the HTML anchors aren't working, just scroll all the way down to the bottom (that's how I found them, because my browser didn't want to work). Hull House Neighborhood.
Antonio, I am not an experienced nor am I a sophisticated researcher. Despite my shortcomings, my passion is to record and document the history of the legendary Taylor Street, the port-of-call for Chicago's Italian American immigrant. "It will be as if we never were."
The Hull House experiment is part of the Italian American experience. If one researches the registries of Hull House and its summer camp, the Bowen Country Club, they are overwhelming Italian surnames.
I was a member of Hull house since my birth in 1931 and a camper at it's Bowen country Club. I served as a social worker at Hull house and a camp Counselor during the late forties and early fifties. I recognize, however, that empirical, first hand, experience does not necessarily qualify as a substitiute for the verification required by Wikipedia.
I have reworked my Hull House Neighborhood input several times in the hope of meeting the WIKI standards. I placed the Tribune article, with the 1890 invitation to the residents of the Hull House neighborhood signed, Signorine Addams and Starr, first, with the hope that this immediate verification would confirm my desire to meet the WIKI requirements. The second paragraph also references its source and verification.
The final paragraph is also easly verified via the 1984 Sun Time article and picture of the Hull House Kids.
Everything else in my contribution is equally true (perhaps with a touch of understandable ethnic bias)and empirically valid. Writers of the Italian Amwerican experience, such as Dominick Candeloro and Fred Gardaphe, have written volimes substantiating that information. However, I have reworked those portions to make them more palatable and not appear to be so ethnically biased. (If ethnicity were a crime, I would be sentenced to a life term without parole.)
With all due respect, I was hoping I could rely upon your experience and knowledge to guide me in including the most important component of the Jane Addams & Ellen Starr social experiment; i.e., what Jane Addams herself had termed "The Hull House Neighborhood."

Sorry, but I failed this article because I didn't feel it met criteria five: stability. Since the season's barely begun, there's going to be the potential for quite a few changes, particularly if/when Michigan makes the NCAA Tournament or wins the Big 10 (hey, it could happen!).
