This looks like it might be somewhere in Chicago. Is it? If so, you should rename it, or I will. ----DanTD (talk) 15:09, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Not even in the commons gallery? ----DanTD (talk) 20:38, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
The Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) article has a commons gallery. If it's good for anything, it'd probably be good for that, once it's renamed. Otherwise, it would be kind of sad to see it go. ---DanTD (talk) 21:14, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I could give it a shot. I just picked out a name for it and added a description. If you think it's good as it is, I'll just upload it tonight. If you have a better name and/or description, go ahead and change mine. ----DanTD (talk) 22:14, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
You didn't see it in the past few minutes? I just added the name "Chicago_Trump_International_Hotel;_Under_Construction_-_2006" to the renameing tag, and gave a vague description to the summary box. ----DanTD (talk) 22:22, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Millennium Park take two

Thanks for the heads up, I was planning to work on it tonight originally. I will ge glad to make copyedits if needed, but there is no need (or expectation) for a co-nom (thanks for the offer). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the clarification - I did not think I had made that much of a contribution. After a careful (re)reading and some copyedits I expect to support - since lack of support was the problem before, I figured it was better to have more support. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:47, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
    • I was very surprised just now to see the FAC was closed already - sorry. Which would you rather I do: 1) work on Millennium Park article text? 2) Work on MP image licenses? 3) Work on Exelon Pavilions with an eye to FAC? or 4) Work on Lurie Gardens? I think 3) might be easiest as it is the shortest article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:40, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
      • OK, I will look at Exelon tomorrow (Sunday) and if I run into some major problem with it will work on Lurie instead. Hope your internet issues are soon resolved and if you are at McD's have a french fry for me (yum!) and thank them for the Cycle Center. ;o) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:01, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
        • I closed the PR as requested. I have read the Exelon article and many of the sources and think I can work on it, but will wait to hear from you. Assume you saw the note at the talk of Sandy's talk page that she is traveling. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:15, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

All-American articles

What kind of help are you looking for? To be honest, I'm kind of more interested in some other updates (like adding more historical season pages or completing the 2009-10 conference season pages), but may be able to help some. Just let me know what you're looking for. Rikster2 (talk) 02:09, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Not sure I can commit to help, I have been more into adding new content - new seasons, players, improving existing artoicles, etc. I may jump in and do some "de-linking" for the All-American articles when I am looking for a short task to do, but I'd hate for you to count on me. Good luck! Rikster2 (talk) 12:30, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Before Millennium Park

Hi Tony. For a photo of the Millennium Park area before Millennium Park you might want to look through the Library of Congress collection. Photographer Jack Delano took a lot of great photographs there in 1943, and as he was working for the Farm Security Administration the photos are public domain. Here's a few possibilities that I found: [1] —I particularly like [2] and [3]Jeremy (talk) 00:46, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

1997 Michigan Wolverines football team

Tony, I had a couple thoughts about the 1997 Michigan Wolverines football team article.

  • First, the records you put in the box scores reflect records after the decision of that game. The standard in Template:Infobox NCAA football yearly game for articles about individual games seems to be to list records going into the game. See 1998 Rose Bowl for an example. The box scores should probably employ this standard. Also, you've included references in each of the box score headers. I think in all cases, these references are cited again in the body of that section, so those references can probably be dropped, which will improve the look of the article.
  • Second, I realized that the '97 Michigan team beat four coaches who have since been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame: Hayden Frye, Joe Paterno, Barry Alvarez, and John Cooper. Plus Nick Saban is likely going to be there one day. Might make for an neat tidbit to work in somewhere.

Glad to help. The 1997 team is the most important Michigan team in the past 50 years, and it deserves a first-rate article. You've done an outstanding job compiling the facts. FAC concerns

Hi Tony. As FAC delegates, SandyGeorgia and I are concerned about the pattern we see in your nominations at FAC. You are one of, if not the, most prolific nominators at FAC. This means that your nominations collectively tie up a higher percentage of reviewer time than those by other nominators. This is a problem for two reasons: a) in the past, you have failed to review other nominations, and b) your nominations are almost always underprepared, thus taking even more time from reviewers - both by turning the article into a peer review and then invariably requiring a second, third, or fourth nomination for the same article.

I have noticed and do appreciate that you've started to review other nominations occasionally to help with the backlog!! That has been a help. However, it is time that you work on the rest of the issue as well. As a frequent nominator, you should be well aware of what it takes to get an article passed at FAC. There is no excuse for an experienced nominator to have the same issues pop up in each nomination - in yours these tend to be: overlinking, unwieldy prose, MOS issues, image issues (either copyright or overuse) and some sourcing problems. We see most of these at almost every nomination you put forth. I don't expect you to be an expert at all of these things, but by now you should be able to recognize your weaknesses and find collaborators who can help you to fix those problems before coming to FAC.

FAC is not peer review. I strongly encourage you to prepare more diligently before nominating an article. If I continue to see unprepared articles - from experienced nominators - nominated at FAC then I'll bring the problem to WT:FAC to get wider input on how to handle the situation. Valued Pictures was closed =(

This is as far as I'd gotten to a new logo I was making to suggest to replace the old one shown below, as you can see it's only about half-way done. The idea was shells, which were used in ancient times as money all over the world in spite of geographical isolation, tying into Valued Pictures.

The deed was done by SilkTork not many hours ago after a contentious dispute between over a dozen users on VPC's talkpage, some wanted to keep it, some wanted to delete it. Some wanted to make it historical, some never understood its purpose, but it is my opinion that VPC was very misunderstood and had a potential to be very important and possibly even resolve problems we have with the similar Featured Picture Candidates (FPC) and the connected Picture of the Day projects.

If VPC never rises again then may it rest in peace, the rest of us will just be on the ever persnickety FPC page. --I'ḏOne 10:29, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

I've reversed that crazy unilateral action, if we're going to shut it down it's going to come after an official MfD, not some convoluted long disjointed discussion on the talk page. — raekyt 12:13, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

I noticed on the last GAC that Harrias talk mentioned your stats table not sorting correctly. The table you have on the current page still doesn't sort correctly. I have made a table in my Sandbox that does sort properly and IMO is cleaner. I have also made a key for the table, both are similar to the way FL for franchise's all time players are done. I did not change the table on the page since you currently have it up for GAC again. Feel free to copy any parts of the table you want to use, you should be able to copy the sort system with out changing the existing table if you prefer. A couple of other changes I made were to make the positions identical to your source, I changed Bench to Bench minor and linked it to minor penalty for readers who may not be familiar with hockey and not understand why bench is listed, and in the goaltender table GAA is always expressed with 3 numbers so I added a 0 to Gary Bromley's statistics. It looked like the Goaltender table was sorting correctly so I did not bother to make any other changes to that. I'm not sure where you got the player numbers from but even the players trade would have had a number during the season so I'm not sure why they weren't listed on the table. Any way I hope this helps.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (talk) 15:50, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

I see you noticed I made the changes, your quite welcome, hopefully that helps in finally pushing that article over the top, good luck--Mo Rock...Monstrous (talk) 16:12, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm really not that good with tables, but I took a quick look at the ones on the Braves pages. They all seem to be sorting correctly and I'm not sure there are a whole lot of changes that need to be made. I did put together a new legend for you since the NBA one doesn't list a lot of the abbreviation you have and has 3 point% which doesn't apply to these seasons. the Legend is posted below. Good luck--Mo Rock...Monstrous (talk) 20:57, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't able to add playoff stats to the Brave's pages If the same stats are listed for playoffs and the table is to long for a standard size table. You would need to add a second table for the playoff stats.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (talk) 00:03, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Tony, you already have one FLC running—Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/2009 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans/archive1—and it has received no supports. The FLC instructions explicitly say "Users should not add a second FL nomination until the first has gained support [emphasis mine] and reviewers' concerns have been substantially addressed." Don't you think you should wait a bit before submitting another one? Also, I would really appreciate it if you would do some reviews yourself. You seem to be interested in sports topics, so any of the myriad baseball, basketball or Olympic lists would be somewhat familiar to you. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 19:49, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

The reflist template only works for references that are placed before it in the article, so the references in the external links section aren't rendered. —Jeremy (talk) 21:23, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
I think this is well-deserved for your recent work with Jake Long and associated articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Obamafan70 (talkcontribs) 15:56, 26 August 2010

A Sports List...

Hey Tony - Chzz had recommended you as someone who's a great resource for this kind of things - sports and lists. (And you sure have done a lot a work on sports-related articles and Featured Lists...wow.) Another editor(who actually works in a sports library in Germany) and I are working on this particular list these days and if you'd like to stop by and add improvements/input, that would be great. The article is: List of professional cyclists who died during a race. I know the lede and the prose in general both need work, but I've been mostly concentrating on trying to adding RS refs for each name. Thanks in advance, Shearonink (talk) 17:03, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Chicago FPs

Palmer Mansion

You know, I've never understood why you get so much flak for being most interested in Chicago. I mean, I do almost entirely historical artworks, Sasata has a strong concentration on fungi, Noodle snacks is mostly animals and plants, and noone really complains about any of us.

I don't know. Maybe I should do something Chicago-ish just to annoy them. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:23, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

How about a nice [historic view] of the Palmer Mansion? Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:38, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Other strong possibilities include [5], [6], [7] (gorgeous!), or, for sheer bizarreness, [8]. I got up to here before stopping the search; there's over 3000 more images to skim through after that. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:45, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Help me throw the Mansion image into appropriate articles? I've noted on its image page why the colours are right. Adam Cuerden (talk) 22:27, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

All-American lists

I've never paid much attention to any of those college awards, so I don't have any strong opinions on this matter. Sorry. Zagalejo^^^ 21:01, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Exelon

I may be able to start in the next 4 hours, if not I should be able to at least start the copyedit in the next 24 hours. I doubt it will take me more than two days to copyedit. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:40, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Juwan Howard

I could co-nom, but since my only edits were via the GA review, I don't know if I'd consider myself a significant enough contributor. I'll help out at the FAC though. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 02:58, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

1997 Wolverines team article

I took a break from editing the above article simply because I needed a break. It's a very large article, probably the largest I've ever worked on. I frankly got worn out working on it. It is an important article, and I do intend to get back to it. Was not aware of its implications for your WikiCup competition. Will try to wrap up my work in sufficient time to allow you to nominate it for Featured status. Cbl62 (talk) 03:46, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

For the newsletter- is it just the final eight you want in there? J Milburn (talk) 21:56, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I have no objection to it being moved to a WikiCup subpage and linked on the navbox. I'll mention it on the newsletter. J Milburn (talk) 22:03, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. Toronto Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. Finland Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. Norway Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for these.

Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.

Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
