Kirsty Gallacher isn't a copyvio

[edit]

Hate to break this to you, but the site in question (CelebrityWorld.tv) copied the content from Wikipedia. It is in the exact same format as a Wikipedia article (per Wikipedia's Manual of Style is and even has a link leading back to Wikipedia... I have therefore removed the copyvio warning, since it is clearly illegitimate. Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask. No problem, thanks Trevor1 09:04, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in accordance with style manual being reverted

[edit]

I have been going through the golfers category and moving all birth places in to the main article like the style manual says here. Two examples of these edits being [1] [2]. How ever, both edits have been reverted. I have let both users know that my edits were in accordance with the style manual but neither users have reverted their changes nor explained why my edit was bad. I don't know how to continue. My gut feeling says that now that I have pointed out that my edits were in accordance with the style manual and given it a few days, I should go ahead and change the entries back to what I originally changed them too, but that will probably start an edit war. I don't know what to do next, if some one could give some assistance, that would be super. Thanks. Trevor1 18:09, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's strange that your edits were reverted. Contact both the editors and ask them why (I see you have done that for NSLE, I'll give NSLE a nudge to try and get a response). Perhaps try linking to the MoS in your edit summary. Also, create a userpage so that people don't think you are so new (by having a redlinked userpage link in the page history). I think you should try to introduce the edits once more (with a link to the MoS), and see what happens.--Commander Keane 18:21, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Removing useful information like that is harmful. I will revert every such change I see (and as the heaviest editor of the golf category I will see them all over time). If you want to rewrite articles, then please rewrite without removing information. If you take the information away, chances are no one else will put it in your preferred format, because they won't see it. The constructive approach is to improve material you don't think is presented properly, rather than to blank it, but personally I think the style guide needs to change. You should also familiarise yourself with the difference between a guideline and a policy. Osomec 15:38, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would also like you to stop this activity. Until I read this I thought you were engaging in what is known as "sneaky vandalism" and now I just think you are very misguided. It is more important to have information than to format it in a particular way. At the moment I am going through the list of golfers adding dates of birth and death. This involves visiting each article about a golfer, so I will watch out for your edits and revert them. Golfcam 19:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I shall stop then. Sorry. Trevor1 20:04, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This may be irrelevant now, but I came here to say, if you move things around, please leave them in chronological order. Cathy Johnston-Forbes was born first and went to college about 18 years later, not the other way round. Golfcam 03:10, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And that is why there are multiple editors. Catch mistakes. Trevor1 03:43, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
