show/hide thingy

hi, i've been trying to work out this whole [Show]/[Hide] thing with the NavFrames and stumbled across this section of your code sandbox. I'm not sure exactly where I've gone wrong with my attempt here, but when mine is first loaded, it starts with [Hide] and it takes two clicks to make it work as it should. Off the wall

I went to British Airways, it led me to Trevor Macinnis, and I see you do many things, so maybe you can give me some direction. Too, I note your interest in genealogy!

My wife's mother was a Macfarlane but with her death, we are without any means of communicating with her family in Scotland and Great Britain. I have tried several addresses found in old correspondence but all have been returned., no doubt having moved on or moved out. But there was one clue remaining-----Walter Macfarlane was a commercial airline pilot for Btirish Airways, or was so in the 1970s. My thought was to try locating him, or his pension holder, through the pilot's union. A far stretch I admit, but you being intereted in genealogy, know to what extent people will go to "find."

Image:Cummins logo.gif

I hope you don't mind that I will nominate your upload of the Image:Cummins logo.gif for deletion because it is sort of redundant of Image:CumminsEngineLogo.png. Before you say it they're two different colors, I have uploaded a new version of Image:CumminsEngineLogo.png to make it have a black look which was mentioned in the Cummins Engine article's discussion tab. Wikipedia recommends that logos should be in the PNG image format which is why I'm making the simple task of replacing a image's color just a tad bit difficult/confusing. --Who What Where Nguyen Why 05:05, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

It seems like some of the old comments should probably be archived after a few days to stop the page getting too massive. Thanks for the info Trevor! It'll take some time to go through it. I myself have pondered the idea of contributing a machine building course to the Wikiversity wealth of knowledge. I'm no computer genius but I have alot of mechanical talent. The thought that I'm rolling around in my mind is a practical applied approach to the machine building industry. Kind of like a month in the life of a machine designer sort of thing. More than myself writing text it would be more like gathering available information and organizing it. Believe it or not there is actually quite a wealth of technical information out there available to the public that is researched by the companies that design mechanical components and materials. The manufacturing firms invest this money into r and d to 1 promote their product. 2 Assist engineering and maintenance staff with proper use and application of such things. I estimate putting a course together like this will be more information gathering and organizing than actual my own written text as I said above. Which leads me to my next question. If this is already adequately answered in the info you sent me I thank you again and apologize for the redundancy. I'm curious about the in's and out's of using the Wikiversity name to do research. Some of the task that I envision ahead of myself would be to talk certain people into coming to the realization that there printed material is no secret and to let me make it public. Using the Wiki name in the promotion of mechanical education might get me further than me loneing it. Talk to ya later Trevor!

Article ratings

You seem not to have read this advice: "(If you rated the article please give a short summary at comments to explain the ratings and/or to identify the strengths and weaknesses.)" Now you have rated all these articles. What is anyone supposed to do with your rating?

Please refer Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#article_assessments. You are assessing scores of articles ignoring the request to give the reasons for your assessment and to provide suggestions as to improvement. I think assessments such as yours are useless and counterproductive - like all unreasoned criticism it just demotivates those actually trying to make a positive impact on the encyclopedia. It is just as easy to improve an article as it is to give a properly reasoned, constructive critique. Please stop the assessments, start on improvements. Thank you.

high fructose corn syrup

I believe that the number one ingredient of a soft drink is very pertinent to the introductory paragraph about that particular soft drink. It is as important as stating that it is carbonated. While high fructose corn syrup never does flow well it would be inaccurate to claim it is high in sugar since high fructose corn syrup is neither a sugar nor is it corn syrup. Moreover I find it offensive that you labeled my comment as being vandalism when it was neither obscene, inaccurate, or irrelevant to the subject matter. While reasonable men may disagree as to whether my comment belongs in the opening paragraph I find it outrageous that it has been classified as vandalism.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Laspakis (talk • contribs)

I did not mean for my edit summary to suggest your edit was vandalism. I was refering to the edits by User:67.173.72.143, who deleted a large section and replaced it with "Coke was made cause people copied it from Pepsi." Misunderstanding/ unrelated question about Wikipedia

I apreciate your reply. While I believe that the high level of HFCS in coke is an important fact I am sure the majority of Americans realize that soda pop isn't healthy and if they don't they are likely to stay in ignorance at least until the rapture. While Wikipedia has undoubtedly become a forum for activism and misinformation I find there to be a great difference between those who make remarks based on fact, even if they contain bias, and those who arbitrarily write doo doo in the middle of articles. I normally would not have been so perturbed by the removal of my minor comment had I not noticed that another contribution of mine seemed to have been erased without justification. It is back and re-edited so there is no problem. I do however, at the risk of sounding paranoid, want to ask if you know anything about corporation hiring people to edit sites in order to preserve their image. It seems like a logical step for a corporation to take without any legal repercussions. It is also something that could jeopardize the integrity of Wikipedia. I have a feeling that I am not the first person to have considered this as a possibility. Any information relating to this subject matter would be greatly appreciated.
