If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Steve Pilling requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. - Unforgiven24 Talk|Contribs 14:22, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Acroterion (talk) 14:44, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But we weren't advertising. We're stating facts about a great entrepreneur in Manchester.

I deleted the bio as promotion of the subject, rather than for notability, since there was a credible assertion of notability. It appears that an article could be written within Wikipedia guidelines for notability - see WP:BIO, but it must not be written in the form of a promotional press release. The prose was not objective. Your claim that you were "stating facts about a great entrepreneur in Manchester" is itself a symptom of promotional intent. Articles must maintain an appropriate editorial distance from their subjects. See WP:SPAM. Acroterion (talk) 14:48, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to keep it as factorial as possible. This is a presentation of the man's notability, not an advertisement.

It was written in an obviously promotional tone, not in an encyclopedic style. Encyclopedia articles don't contain lines like: "this latest venture looks to be the most exciting and rewarding one yet for those who are chosen," " as well as boasting locally sourced british food and one of the best wine cellars in Manchester, it is well on its way to providing Steve with the perfect return to the city centre," "His partner for this venture was none other than Renowned Chef Simon Stanley," "provided the perfect platform for Steve and Roger to revitalise another of manchesters iconic establishments," and "before too long, Sams was performing better than ever. That's suitable for a newspaper or magazine feature, but entirely inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Acroterion (talk) 14:55, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You could be a bit more professional about this. Forget about it. We'll be looking to make him a website instead.

Wikipedia isn't a free webhost for personal promotion or a substitute for an appropriate, professionally executed website. Please do not use Wikipedia for promotion of any kind. As I made clear, there could be a neutrally-written encyclopedia article written for this subject if there are sufficient secondary sources available to sustain notability and to back up neutral factual statements..
