Bug reports and suggestions are appreciated, altough I should probably point out that I have absolutely no knowledge of javascript, and this script was put together by using other people's code and some general programming experience. So if you know how, feel free to improve the script! — Twinzor Say hi! 04:55, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

Hi, I tried adding Wikimark, but although I got the "wikimark" and "my wikimarks" tabs at the top of the page, when I tried adding pages to it, nothing shewed up in "my wikimarks". Now I've removed the script, and although I have purged my cache several times they won't go away! DuncanHill (talk) 02:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've got rid of them now. DuncanHill (talk) 02:57, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
HI, thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I did create the userpage (I had it speedily deleted after I removed the script) and I did wait for the "??? article has been added to your wikimarks" messages too. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I use Safari on WinXP. DuncanHill (talk) 11:15, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that's very strange then. Possibly the script is incompatible with Safari. :( Did anything at all appear on the WikiMarks page when you had added an article to it? — Twinzor Say hi! 12:48, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it just looked exactly as it had before. DuncanHill (talk) 12:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I installed Safari and gave it a try, and unfortunately I'll have to confirm that the script does not work in Safari. As for the reason of this, I have no idea. If someone knows anything about this, please let me know! — Twinzor Say hi! 13:30, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK - thanks for checking, and it does look like a good tool, so I do hope someone can lend you a hand! DuncanHill (talk) 13:32, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed - the script is now Safari compatible! (altough the solution is slightly hackish) — Twinzor Say hi! 16:14, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Many thanks - I can confirm that it works for me in Safari on WinXP (as well as in Chrome in WinXP). Good tool :) DuncanHill (talk) 18:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IE[edit]

Do Wikimarks fail in IE or has it simply not been tested yet? I tend not to use IE at home, but in some cases I have no choice. - 131.211.211.212 (talk) 08:20, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't work on my IE, so possibly it is not compatible with IE at all. I would prefer someone with more IE experience to test it though. It shouldn't cause any problems to try it. If you do try it on IE, could you kindly report your findings here? Thanks! — Twinzor Say hi! 13:35, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Does not work for me on IE7. DuncanHill (talk) 15:10, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Information page updated. If anyone comes up with a fix, I'd be happy to add it to the code. — Twinzor Say hi! 17:55, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Script will be updated Jan 16th[edit]

I will roll out a new version of the script some time in the evening of Jan 16th. I will post a message here once the script has been updated, after which you should bypass your browser cache to get the newest version. If you wish to continue using the script the same way as before no further action is necessary. New features:

  • Easier configurability (can be configured in monobook.js without copying the code)
  • Tabs can be positioned separately, for example you could have the add wikimark tab in default position, but the link to your wikimarks could be next to "my watchlist" in the upper right corner
  • Other minor tweaks

In my tests the new version has worked with the same browsers as before. If you encounter problems after the update, please report here and I will roll back to the old version. — Twinzor Say hi! 05:10, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The script has now been updated. Information on configuring the new version will be on the scripts page shortly. — Twinzor Say hi! 15:39, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File: namespace[edit]

Can you make it that if marking a File:, it will be [[:File:Example.jpg]] in order to have a link and not the full size image? Geraki TL 16:45, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. Bypass your cache and the script should now always link files with a preceding colon. Thanks for the suggestion! — Twinzor Say hi! 07:56, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another update[edit]

The script has been updated to include User:Js's popupBookmarks functionality. What this means is that if you wish, you can have your WikiMarks show in a neat box without leaving your current page when you click on the "my wikimarks" tab. To try this out, add this line to your monobook.js:

 WikimarkConfigPopup = 1;

I am considering making this the default mode of operation. Any thoughts on that? You could still use the old (current default) style, by adding the same variable but setting the value to 0. Comments are appreciated! — Twinzor Say hi! 15:49, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that sometimes when you add a new wikimark, it wont show up immediately in the popup, even though it has been added to the wikimarks page. This is nothing to worry about though, since as long as the mark is added to the wikimarks page, it will start showing in the popup as well eventually (when you open a different page, reload, etc). — Twinzor Say hi! 16:39, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My wikimarks have disappeared![edit]

Well, not quite - the page is still in my userspace, but the link to it, and the "add wikimark" tab have disappeared, using Chrome. DuncanHill (talk) 05:14, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are still there in Safari though. DuncanHill (talk) 08:06, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the report. I've made pretty much changes to the script, and I'll have to look into this asap. — Twinzor Say hi! 16:03, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

I installed Wikimarks yesterday, bypassed cache etc, but I do not see the tab on any page. Is there a known compatibility problem with other scripts such as Twinkle, Friendly, or WikED? Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 18:41, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are no known compatibility issues with these scripts, but the latests updates apparently have introduced some browser compatibility issues. Which browser are you using? I'm looking into fixing the problems, or possible reverting the script to the older, more compatible version. Thanks for the report! — Twinzor Say hi! 00:25, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops should have mentioned that: Win XP SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.20. Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 01:41, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Location should allow other than current user subspace[edit]

Users with alternate accounts may want to share wikimarks among them, so putting it in a different user's subspace should be allowable (i.e., I want mine to go at User:Xenowiki/marks). Any possibility of allowing this functionality? –xeno (talk) 13:11, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I've hacked this together. Seems to not cause the heat death of the universe. Please confirm =) –xeno (talk) 13:49, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Putting both add and show into "navigation" doesn't seem to work[edit]

It only gives one option, to show the list, and can't add. –xeno (talk) 13:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not friendly with Friendly[edit]

It seems to obscure Friendly's sharedip tab. –xeno talk 16:21, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not working in Chrome 1.0.154.59[edit]

I've tried to put the install line at the bottom of my external script list, I've tried putting it up further. But neither yields any new tabs or menu items to use. (Yes, I bypassed the cache using all possible key combinations I know. - Mgm|(talk) 10:37, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Failure[edit]

Wikimarks fails in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.1 completely, no tabs or anything appear.--Ipatrol (talk) 01:15, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Failure in Chrome[edit]

Failure in Chrome 4.0.204.0 as well as chromium. Cannot see any new tabs. I am using Beta so there is possibility it might be interpreting the tabs as well. Shirishag75 (talk) 17:50, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category: namespace[edit]

Just like the change made for the File namespace to accommodate the request at User talk:Twinzor/Wikimark#File: namespace, could you add a : in front of the name when adding a category? I like to monitor certain categories (such as Category:Wikipedians looking for help), but when I add a category with the script it ends up putting my WikiMark subpage in the category. I can edit it manually, but it'd be easier if the tool did this. I know how to change User:Twinzor/wikimark.js to do this, but I can't edit another user's script page because I'm not an administrator. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 21:02, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Throw up the code and I'll do it; Twinzor appears to be inactive. –xenotalk 21:06, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Immediately below this change where Twinzor added:
    if(wikimarkNewpage.indexOf("File:")==0) {
        wikimarkNewpage = ":" + wikimarkNewpage;
    }
add:
    else if(wikimarkNewpage.indexOf("Category:")==0) {
        wikimarkNewpage = ":" + wikimarkNewpage;
    }
and that should be it. --Mysdaao talk 21:26, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
checkY added, please confirm it works because I don't use this script anymore. –xenotalk 21:31, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It worked perfectly. Thank you for your help xeno. --Mysdaao talk 21:47, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not working[edit]

I added the WikiMark script to my monobook.js file in March, bypassed my browser cache and it's not working. I'm on Firefox 3.6. Help? PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:32, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are you still using the monobook skin or are you using vector now? If you are using vector, you'll need to move your monobook to Special:Mypage/vector.js. –xenotalk 20:35, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Still on monobook and all of my other scripts are working. PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:23, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hm - has it ever worked for you? I just tested it and it's working for me. Perhaps try defining some settings? –xenotalk 21:27, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You could also try removing everything from your monobook except wikimarks (also disable any enabled gadgets) and see if it works. If WikiMarks works at that point, re-enable the other scripts 1 by 1 and see which one is conflicting with it. –xenotalk 21:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I tried that and it is now working beautifully. Thank you! PrincessofLlyr royal court 21:43, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Sometimes it's the order of the scripts that screws things up. Happy bookmarking =) –xenotalk 21:45, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
