External links[edit]

Please do not add links from Wikipedia to your site, See WP:EL, WP:SPAM and WP:COI for reasons. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 21:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Links are fully compliant with above stated links - aggressive editing of external links needs to be unilateral - in this instance the "official" airbus industries link must also be removed... how far must censorship go? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TwirlTour (talkcontribs) 22:05, 18 January 2009

January 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. One or more of the external links you added in this edit to Airbus A320 family do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. You may wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you.  – iridescent 22:15, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Request reason:

My own wikipedia ignorance has resulted in rapid permanent banning, I had NO intention of spamming this institution and apologize for my gross negligent editing violations and username choice. I would respectfully request that my ban be removed and username changed to PlanePanos to comply with username rules. My apologies for wasting the moderator/administrator's time. I assure you I will no longer add external links unless they are are purely educational and completely unbranded.

Decline reason:

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first and then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you abuse this procedure by making too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page as long as you are blocked.

You have very few contributions and all are adding spam links. It would be better to start a new account while remembering our policy concerning spamSandahl (talk) 23:42, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand your view - I apologize for adding spam links - it was certainly NOT my intention to add spam. Many friends and family members have asked why I don't put my panos up on wikipedia - it seems salient specifically considering recent current events (US Airways unfortunate accident in the Hudson River). The single link that I have repeatedly (foolishly) tried to add was to allow people to view the inside of an Airbus 320 cockpit... as a pilot it is something I get to see most any day, but not something most people are allowed to do. It does belong to a commercial website, but it links specifically to that pano. It is branded on the lower portion of the pano (the nadir) simply to cover the hole that would be where the tripod was... a common practice in making panos, but apparently something not acceptable at wikipedia - again, my apologies. My rapid banning was a result of my ingnorance in not knowing about this page and seeing the warnings - I would have heeded them had I seen them sooner... I truly wanted to allow people to see something they don't normally get to see. It doesn't even appear on the commercial website - I set up this link specifically for users to get instantly to the cockpit. At a minimum may I please have the username changed to PlanePanos? Thanks for your consideration. TwirlTour (talk) 00:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At this point, there are no edits worth preserving in this account; its all spam edits, which I am not sure you necessarily want your next account associated with. Given that, I concur witH Sandahl's advice. Log out of this account, and create a brand new account with an allowable username as specified in WP:UN. — Jayron32.talk.contribs 02:07, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thanks for your time reviewing this. I realize that there are several spam comments associated with this particular username - I truly did not intend to spam the wikipedia. I did intend to allow people who are not able to explore a cockpit, the ability to peek into one... I have many such panos to offer, a DC-9, Learjet, etc... many environs into which people can explore whom might otherwise be unable to. For instance, my father in a wheelchair - which is why I take pictures of the aircraft I fly - so that he can visit my "office". I am sure there are others whom would really like to be able to see these panos. I've read all the above links, the COI, the Spamming, etc - I can't see the SPECIFIC reason why this was banned in the first place.

I TRULY wanted to give the user the ability to experience something they generally cannot. Does anybody here know where the ditching switch is located on an Airbus 320 - the one that is purported to have saved the lives of some if not all the 155 souls on board the US Airways flight? It's on the overhead panel, first box forward, third row aft, right side - a single guarded pushbutton switch - viewable on the only link I ever posted - and nowhere else to my knowledge.

I understand the posting behavior is something undesirable, and for that, please forgive me - I realize that ignorance is not an excuse, but the rapidity with with this ban occurred is mindboggling, and really a little disappointing. I have no specific guidance how to avoid future banning, but lots of vague advice on things to read that sort of generally suggest I did something wrong in the eyes of the moderators of wikipedia - I still do not know why the link was banned in the first place, was it because of the content of the link, the branding on the pano in the link, the fact that the link requires flash and is a rich media content, the use of a ™ on the end of TwirlTour™ in the link, the poor choice of a username?

At this point it's been an unfortunate voyage into Wikipedia.org; I feel I have quite a bit to offer the wiki community, specifically to those with disabilities, but feel strangely unwelcome. I would encourage looking at this differently and not just with a typical response given to the spammed.TwirlTour (talk) 02:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This block was issued because you have a username that is clearly the name of a company or organization, and your sole and first activity was to link to that company's website. Now maybe you are not really affiliated with TwirlTour.com, but it sure seems that way. Brief answer about the link: the link isn't banned; it may be added by an independent editor, but it may not be added by you because of your clear conflict of interest. (Even if you aren't affiliated with TwirlTour.com itself, if this is your own work, it is still considered a conflict of interest.) You have already been told what to do to change your username: log out and create a new account, it's the best and simplest way. I'm happy to answer more questions after you do that.
