Goodman and Christianson-Leberman Building[edit]

Thank you for uploading the photo of the actual Christianson-Leberman Building - I thought the Goodman Building was the Christianson-Leberman Building, but after looking at the map I found that you uploaded the photo of what actually is the Christianson-Leberman Building. I see from your contributions you are actively involved in editing items related to the Texas Historical Commission, NRHP sites, museums and more. Welcome to Wikipedia! As I'm posting this message, I'm removing all the notices posted to your talk page by robots in an effort to get you to actually see my message (I'm a human ;-) ). Your username suggests you are involved (perhaps work for?) the Texas Historical Commission. Would this be something you'd like to disclose? We do have a policy on conflicts of interest -- we like for Wikipedians who are editing topics that they have close ties to (other than side hobby or interest), to disclose them for everyone's benefit.
What I really wanted to talk to you about is your file uploads and your article edits themselves. With regard to files, did you personally take the pictures? If not, those photos are not your intellectual property and you are not the copyright holder, and in most circumstances Wikipedia cannot accept those uploads. If you know the copyright holder and they are willing to give the photos free licenses, then we can use the OTRS system to validate this. The reason why I'm asking, is that the photos seem to lack metadata and are a smaller size than what most digital cameras use -- leading me to believe their from elsewhere on the internet.

Hi Killiondude. Many thanks for your assistance! I am not very well versed in editing Wikipedia. I do work for the Texas Historical Commission. The photos I uploaded are copyrighted by the Texas Historical Commission and are from our archive. I did not upload the original files as I was under the impression that I should reduce the size of the files before uploading. If needed though, I can upload the original files (which are in TIFF format and quite large). Please let me know how to proceed. In regards to article edits, I will be sure to note third-party sources. I would like to make San Felipe State Historic Site a separate entry from Stephen F. Austin State Park, as they are two separate sites (and the former is now called San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site). How should I go about doing that correctly? Thanks again. TxHC

We all were new at one point, so no worries. We don't expect people to be perfect. :-)
The size doesn't matter so much -- it's just a clue I normally look for in seeing if something is lifted from another website. You mentioned that the photos are copyrighted by the Texas Historical Commission. I'm not sure what position you hold there, but we need someone to release some of the copyrights if you want the images to stay. We recommend a Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license which essentially means that all future uses of the images have to attribute the original author/copyright holder (the "BY" part), which in this case is the Texas Historical Commission, as well as give their uses of the images the exact same license (SA=share alike). There are a variety of other licenses usable for files on Wikipedia, but this one retains the most rights for the original author. If the commission agrees to releasing the images under this license (or another free one) then we can proceed to conversing in the OTRS system so that personal names and other private info can remain private in a secure system (the email for this would be permissions-en@wikimedia.org). I am an OTRS agent and can help with that.
With regard to the two separate articles you'd like to make, I briefly skimmed the current article. Because San Felipe was a former town site (and a somewhat separate area now) I think you do have justification to create a new article. You can edit the redirect page to start an article there, if you'd like. We encourage people to be bold in editing. I'd just like to reiterate that we do like newly formed articles to have a minimum of three reliable sources. In ages past, new articles were readily created with no citations and that was acceptable. Wikipedia's editorial rules have somewhat changed over the years. :-) A good page that helps with learning to reference on Wikipedia is User:Chzz/help/ref. Thanks again for the information. So what is needed exactly to show that the commission agrees to releasing the images under the copyright that was selected for each image? Do I need send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org? TxHC

Someone from a commission related email (that is, @thc.tx.gov or whatever domain you guys use) needs to email that email address and release the images. We have a template for these types of emails listed on this page. Make sure you (or whoever emails) clarifies what images you're referring to. I suppose all of your image uploads (with the exception of the Texas Historical Commission logo) would be donated? If so, that needs to be stated. If further uploads are to be donated as well, that needs to be stated. Don't worry if a mistake is made, it can be corrected. It just expedites all of this if all the info is provided in the initial email. Let me know when the email has been sent and I can look it up. Killiondude (talk) 21:34, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Naming articles[edit]

I just looked at the editing history on the Samuel T. Rayburn House and figured out what you did. First, you created a new article under the new name, then changed the Samuel T. Rayburn House to a Redirect. Wikipedia does it differently. Since you have not created a user account, next time you need to do Wikipedia:Requested moves. In the case of much of what you are working on, we have a Template:Protected Areas of Texas (shows at the bottom of articles) that also links to the article. And everything listed on that Template will show up under "What Links Here" (left hand side of your page). When a redirect happens, everything on this template shows up as a redirect. I changed this template to coordinate with the move you did on the Rayburn house, so you won't see it as a redirect under "What Links Here". If this all makes sense to you. I have no problem with the move. I just like to tidy things up. But I thought you might like to see this template to see what is already out there on Texas - many pages without images - the red links, of course, have no page created yet. What you see on the template is a bit abbreviated. For instance, if you click on Big Bend, it takes you to the Big Bend National Park page. Happy editing.
