Proposed Deletion, June 20th, 2011

Every time an article related to a Triple J Hottest 100 is created, the authors are forced to defend their pages and fend off all this proposed deletion talk, and the pages inevitably stay. The pages are frequently called speculatory, as this one has been. It's been tagged as using 'crystal ball' techniques. However, the page does not fall into the definition of Wikipedia's 'Crystal Balling', which is said as being 'Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation.' This page, and any other Hottest 100 page, is not speculatory in any way, as is it is solid information that is freely available at the cited link provided.

The page was also tagged as being 'too soon', but again, to approach the 'too soon' guidelines and to bring up previous talk pages in the hottest 100, all Hottest 100 pages are created as the countdown items are announced. The Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time, 2009 page was created one week prior to the list being completely announced, but on the day the countdown began. The aforementioned list started being announced on a Tuesday, with 20 songs announced each day, and the winning song was annouced on the Sunday. Although the all time lists are special cases, every other page has been created at the start of the countdown day and has concluded at the end of the day; once all songs have been counted down and officially listed on the website. This is exactly what this list is doing, and considering that it is not breaking the mould of any other of the Triple J countdowns, I propose that this page should not be deleted, but rather kept in the same manner as the other lists have been.

Does that fact that all the articles get tagged give you a hint? The problem is that Wikipedia is very slow, and this list may well be complete before the AfD process has been concluded; by which time the article might be up to scratch. However, the fact remains that this article, as it stands, should be deleted. It's a 40% empty list that will be completed some time in the future. Wikipedia is not a directory. Wikipedia is not a place for half complete articles. Take the hint: create the articles when, and only when, you are able to create a complete article that meets all of out criteria. Alright, fair point. Would it be acceptable to keep editing up until it's deleted, which is likely since it won't be completed until a few days after the deletion date, and then re-submit it completed once it is finished? Tyler j1992 (talk) 06:17, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

It's fine to keep editing. But the problem is that if it gets deleted by an WP:AfD, which is a deletion discussion then, unless the new version is substantially different it may be speedy deleted per WP:CSD#G4 which is the recreation of material deleted in a deletion discussion. What I would recommend is that you create a page in your user space, copy-and-paste the article there, and then request the article be deleted yourself. If you click here: User:Tyler j1992/Sandbox then you'll go to a page in your own space. The link is red now because the page doesn't exist. Click on the link and you'll go to a blank page. Type something and save. Then go to the article's page, copy-and-paste the content into User:Tyler j1992/Sandbox, and save. No-one will touch that because it's in your own user space. Finally, go back to the article and put {{db-author}} at the top, and in the edit summary type a message saying "Article not ready yet, will complete in my user space". That means that you're asking for a speedy delete, and the WP:CSD#G4 won't count (a speedy deletion isn's a discussion!). But, you'll have to make sure that the article is up to scratch before you move it back from your user space, or someone else might tag it for an AfD. Did you follow all that? That's all fine. I've done all you said now. I'll have it all fixed up by the time the countdown is finished, and I'll make sure it's up to the standards of the other lists before I put it back.

Regardless, it's been deleted now, and I'll resurrect a completed and properly formatted version of the page once the countdown has been completed.
