I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Society for Human Resource Management, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Yes, I see you've been working on Munoz as well. You've been adding hagiography-like sentences such as "Munoz is a highly accomplished business executive and leader who holds significant board positions across a diverse range of organizations. His extensive experience and contributions to these boards reflect his dedication to the fields of business, education, and public service." and " Johnny has been granted the privilege to deliver presentations at numerous significant gatherings," which means merely that he has spoken at conferences (by the way, the use of "Johnny" like that is contradicted by our guideline WP:SURNAME.) You are not relying on third-party sources to show to what material is significant, but instead relying on non-independent sources like the organization one is giving a speech to or the speakers bureau that hires them out. You're using career designations like "Keynote speaker" - in profession, we would say someone is an actor, not a movie star. You've been incredibly helpful! Thanks for taking the time to help me make sure I do a good job in improving my edits. I've started to make edits and remove anything that seems promotional, and any mention of first names, removed the ''keynote speaker'' from Munoz' wiki, and I'll be checking the citations to make sure we have 3rd party citations, otherwise I'll remove. Since you seem to be making a good faith effort to improve the pages, let me gently note a place where you missed the mark a bit. This edit has you removing the term keynote speaker, which is good, but you changed the meaning of a sentence in a way that makes it inaccurate. The speakers bureaus are not places he speaks; they are agencies that hire out speakers. You want to find someone to talk at your event, go to the speakers bureau and they'll have a menu to choose from. But even if the sentence were accurate, that leads to the question of whether we should have it at all. It's just a list of places where you can buy his services. When we have an article on a book, we don't say it's available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble and link to their promo pages on that. It's not vital information for understanding who Munoz is, and not something that's likely to be covered by third parties.
(But I should note that you can say someone is a public speaker if they are making money off of that; it's just that "keynote speaker" is a role at a specific event, and not the general profession.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 13:52, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nat, unfortunately college doesn't let me too much free time, but I went ahead and removed all citations that come from the subject and tried my best to remove anything that sounds promotional to my opinion on both Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. and Oscar Munoz (Executive). You've been an incredible mentor! I want to start working on updates for Simon Sinek which is my idol, but first,, do you have any feedback for me? I saw you were editing, and you did indeed make forward progress on this. Good to see!
I will note that one thing you're not yet picking up on is when what looks to be a third party source is just running material given to them by an involved source. As an example, there's this reference, which is pretty clearly just a press release... no author listed, ends with "As the voice of all things work, workers and the workplace, SHRM is dedicated to creating better workplaces. It has over three lakh HR and business executive members in 165 countries, and impacts the lives of over 115 million workers and families globally." That is pure promo speak. Or this biography, which also interestingly explains about SHRM "impacting the lives of 115 million workers every day." (An independent source might simply report them as having members, rather than claiming impact.) WP:PRSOURCE tells us that press releases, even when run by third parties, are not "independent" and cannot count toward notability; much the same could be said for counting toward WP:DUE. --Nat Gertler (talk) 18:55, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Taking a quick look at the Sinek article, the biggest alarm bell to me is repeated use of Foundr as a source. What's the problem with this? Well, they appear to be a pay-for-coverage outlet. If so, that would mean they aren't a third-party source. I do see one reference that's listed as being a Forbes "contributor", but when I click through the article says that it's a staff member -- a "contributor" is not a reliable source, a "staff member" is (see WP:FORBES. So I'd take a look at the archive of that and see if it was listed as a contributor when it originally posed. New image[edit]

I saw that you added a new image, but your addition is a bit confusing. Your edit summary says "Agreed image of Johnny Taylor on SHRM conference 2024" and the caption says "Johnny C Taylor Jr on SHRM2024". This raises a couple questions:

  • "Agreed image" -- agreed by who, where? I don't see any discussion on the article page, but maybe I'm confused about what you're saying.
  • "on SHRM 2024" -- obviously, this is not a picture at SHRM 2024, for time-travel reasons. ("I got a special camera that takes pictures 8 months in the future. Only problem is it's a Polaroid, and the pictures take nine months to develop...") Generally we would caption a picture based on where it was taken - what place, what event - rather than the topic. Were you at some event he was speaking where you took this picture? If so, what event? (And if not, how did you get the picture?)
