Welcome![edit]

Hello, Umi Santillan, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Minor edits[edit]

Hi Umi! I wanted to drop a quick note - only mark something as a minor edit if you're doing something like fixing something like spelling, grammar, or a citation error. Any time you add something new to an article, even if it's small, shouldn't be marked as such. The edit looked fine, but I wanted to give you a head's up on this. It's not a major issue, just be cautious of it in the future. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:11, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

Hi! Here are more notes:

  • I saw that one editor, Chrissymad, removed content because it was a copyright issue. Unless the website or content is explicitly marked as falling into the public domain, you should always assume that it is held under a copyright that would prohibit its use on Wikipedia even if the source is used as a citation. Also, Wikipedia can only include a short amount of content from a source before it becomes a copyright issue so quotes should be 1-3 sentences at most. Quoting the entire agreement and demands is going to be too much to justify as fair use.
  • With the agreement and demands, those are more things that we should link to in the external links section - we only need a general overview of the content rather than the entire thing.
  • I think that attribution should help with some of the tone concerns brought up by Winner 42. You always want to attribute things to a specific source/author with major claims or viewpoints so that it doesn't come across as a personal viewpoint or a blanket statement.

With the copyright problems, I want you to review the plagiarism module before proceeding further. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:26, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
