I'll try to get to it tonight; otherwise maybe tomorrow. --Spangineeres (háblame) 18:01, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to be of service. Not sure why Raul didn't promote it in this last round, but I'm sure it'll get there next time. I look forward to seeing your next FAC—might it be Miranda Otto? I'm a big LOTR fan, so if I get to have a say in the matter, do that one next. I'll even proofread it for you if you'd like ;-) --Spangineeres (háblame) 00:21, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:LiveinconcertmagazineGoldfrapp1.jpg)

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:LiveinconcertmagazineGoldfrapp1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kevin 11:11, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed this image from the Goldfrapp article because it contained no content about the magazine, and therefore does not qualify for fair use. Kevin 12:48, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

To-do

[edit]

Just to let you know, the name of the to-do sub-template needs to match the full name of the task force for everything to work properly; I've therefore moved the box you created to Template:WPMILHIST Announcements/German military history. Kirill Lokshin 05:29, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You supported Battle of Vienna, which has been selected as the Military history WikiProject's new Collaboration of the Fortnight. Please help improve this article to featured article standards. Kirill Lokshin 00:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No disruption, please

[edit]

I hope that your aim is not uglify articles, right? Please note that Template:Unreferenced, which you casually place at the top of numerous battle pages, is placed either on talk page or at the bottom of the page in question. It's a good idea to check the text of the template before casually throwing it into the article. Please fix your edits, or they would be interepreted as disruption. Take care, Ghirla -трёп- 16:10, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template use

[edit]

Just thought you should know that when you use templates (like the birthday ones), you need to type " subst: " inside the brackets before the template name (i.e. {{subst:template6}}). It was a change recently instated. The template will still show up the other way, but then a bot needs to update it.Michael 03:20, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The list (R S awards) you created is/was up for deletion. I want you to know there is a place for it: http://wikitistics.com . No one will be able to nominate it for deletion because it fits one simple rule: it's a statistic, list, or figure. Good luck with your endeavors!Joe 02:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!
Signed...

Eric Bana infobox

[edit]

I reverted your edits of this infobox back to the original because, whilst I understand it's an article you frequently edit, this is the design that we're trying to implement as standard into all actor's pages. As you can see, it's been done on many, many so far, and will hopefully continue to be. Thankyou. DavyJonesLocker 13:19, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Underneath-it-all, I just happened to see this and this situation has been bothering me for a while. I don't mean to butt in, but I don't think it's right that these changes were implemented into the infobox without discussion or consensus, but they can't be removed without discussion or consensus. There is some discussion on Template:Infobox actor - maybe you'd like to have a look. I'm going to start another thread on there - (I think I'm becoming a bit unpopular there as I've been a bit of a complainer) I actually stopped by to comment on the Impossible Princess article which I will do shortly. Rossrs 14:14, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,

I've made some copyedits, nothing major. I thought the areas that I wasn't sure about I would just comment on, and leave it up to your best judgement.

  1. The lead paragraph is a little disjointed. I think that because it's a summary of the article, we should get the article 100% great, and then look at the lead. One bit that I'm concerened about "It received a mixed reception from music critics, some of whom complimented its maturity and personal subject matter, while others felt as though it was uninspired and unbelievable." It looks to me like to vague an interpretation of commentary and needs to be sharpened to make it more specific to what is in the article. Words such as "uninspired" and "unbelievable" are paraphrasing critical commentary and yet somehow doing so in a POV manner. Needs to be toned down - the main thing that needs to be said is that it attracted a varied response from critics.
  2. The long section about Nick Cave appears unrelated until several paragraphs later where it's connected to Impossible Princess. The connection needs to be made straight away so that it flows without any confusion. At the moment it lacks context. Anyone who doesn't know Kylie would be wondering what on earth Nick Cave has to do with this. Also it looks too similar to what is in the Kylie Minogue article and should be reworded slightly.
  3. "Sednaoui also introduced her to several musicians and musical styles" - this sentence is weak and superfluous without saying who some of the musicians were and what were the styles. This would be an excellent point if expanded.
  4. "pushing her creative department into a panic" - I can't think of how exactly this should be said, but I don't think this is the best way. Will give it some more thought.
  5. It's a bit dangerous to describe something as "groundbreaking" without saying why. ("Did it Again" video)
  6. does have its low points, but more than makes up for it with songs such as "Too Far" and "I Don't Need Anyone" (from Who Magazine - is this a quote? If so it should be in quotation marks, but if not the style of writing is a bit awkward)
  7. Are you sure about its peak position of #4 in Australia? It's probably right, but I've got this very vague notion that it got to #2. I could well be wrong about that though.

Overall it's very good. I like that you haven't gone off with some overblown hyperbole like some single/album articles have. I'll have another look in a few days. Cheers Rossrs 14:57, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

James Blunt Discography

[edit]

Just wanted to pop in and say that you have done a wonderful job setting up the James Blunt Discography article. I am hoping to do a significant cleanup on the James Blunt main article in the near future, and if you have any recommendations or suggestions on how to go about that, I would very much appreciate your comments. Can't help noticing you are a Wikipedian in Ontario - me too, perhaps we might run into each other over the next few days. I will be the dork with the shoe. • Thanks for your suggestions, I was thinking more or less the same thing. Right now I have a 2-inch thick stack of reference sources, which should be helpful in citing some of the current information and adding additional relevant facts. Oh yes, and as mentioned on the article's talk page, I hope to get rid of those parodies...if they belong anywhere, it is on the articles for the songs themselves. Auschwitz

[edit]

Hi there; I visited the Auschwitz site July of this year; it was the most moving experience of my life. (63 years) You will find several contributions from me both in the article and in the talk page. I would love the article to assume featured status; if I can help in any way please let me know.--Anthony.bradbury 19:50, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On a personal note, be pepared to be disturbed. When I got back from the site i sat and had eight double bacardi-and-coke, and I do not normally drink very much.

What can I tell you? Auschwitz I is externally as it was during the war, except for some minor moves of fencing. A number of the buildings are converted to museums, with extensive photograph displays. There are showcases, as I have said in the article, filled with human hair, with stolen suitcases and looted shoes. There is a pile of eyeglasses. There is a showcase full of Jewish prayer shawls, and why the Nazis would want those defies imagination.

I find it very difficult to talk or write unemotionally on this subjest; see my contributions in the discussion page in response to Holocaust deniers.

How can I help you?--Anthony.bradbury 22:23, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Up to spec

[edit]

In your U-1A article, I changed these:

  • Lenth: 72.39 meters
  • Beam: 4.3 meters

based on Bernard Fitzsimons, The Encyclopedia of 20th Century Weapons and Warfare (London: Phoebus, 1978), Volume 23, p.2537. From there I also added #TT & guns. I must question that "max depth" number. That looks like crush depth, to me. More typically quoted is test depth; for a 1935 U-boat, I'd expect around 250-300ft. Have you got a firmer number? As for the test depth, I'm disinclined to believe a website; I've seen the same kinds of numbers elsewhere, but never in a source I'd consider authoritative or reliable. If you've got a number in, say, Morison's history, or from Preston, & it agrees, I'm willing to buy it. With that proviso, I'm glad to see somebody else interested in the boats. I've also done some correction on the USN types; you might want to have a look there, too, if you're inclined. Ciao.

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
