Userboxer, please do not restore the "new messages" spoof. While you may have intended this in jest, you should be aware that elements simulating the Mediawiki interface are not acceptable even if used for internal links. Per the user page guideline: "The Wikipedia community generally frowns upon simulating the MediaWiki interface, and it should be avoided except when necessary for testing purposes."
