Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

April 2022[edit]

Information icon Hello, VPriyankaIyer, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as RajendranMCV (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 17:18, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Who is this? @VPriyankaIyer How did you find this draft? RajendranMCV (talk) 17:26, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mr.Rajendran User: RajendranMCV I'm a staff working for spick media. I was looking for some other article as I was paid by a team & found our "Spick Media" draft. That's why I am made an edit. Even now i thought of including our survey works for west bengal bypoll. I'm sorry if it's wrong. User:S0091, how to change my profile as a paid editor ? Will i be allowed to edit if I'm paid ? Wanted to know this as the work is still pending. VPriyankaIyer (talk) 18:13, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi VPriyankaIyer, I will leave you some additional information regarding Wikipedia's rules when an editor meets the paid criteria. You can edit the draft but you should not directly edit any articles in main space (i.e. live) with which you have a financial interest or some other type of conflict of interest. For those, you need to submit an edit request on the article's talk page. If you have questions or need help, you can ask at the Teahouse. Thank you for being honest and transparent. It goes a long way here. S0091 (talk) 18:44, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, sorry to disturb you. Can i edit that Spick Media draft and resubmit it for approval ? I've been paid for correcting the draft and to resubmit it. As i already said that i've been paid, can i edit the draft and resubmit for the approval ? Help me please @S0091 VPriyankaIyer (talk) 00:28, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help User:S0091 VPriyankaIyer (talk) 20:28, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:S0091 this is Harish, secretary of Spick Media Network. I'm typing this from our official Wikipedia account created just a few minutes before.. Can you please delete the page "Draft: Spick Media"? We are not interested in having a wiki page now. We had to discuss with our team before doing such things. Please let me know if it is possible to delete the page. And.. What is the procedure to start an article for our team? If possible please share, so that I will be able to explain with our team members. Thanks User:VPriyankaIyer for sharing the link with me. HarishM Chn (talk) 20:51, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @HarishM Chn, first there is no such thing as an "official" account for an organization and is against policy as an account should only be for an individual and cannot be shared (see User name for the entire policy). I do not think that was your intent but wanted to make that clear. There is no point in deleting the draft if the intent is to create another one. Creating a draft and submitting it to Articles for creation for approval, which is what is occurring with the current draft, is the appropriate method. Anyone employee (including unpaid interns, owners, shareholders, etc.) will need to declare their Paid status (just like the declaration I added to this User page). Being paid, under the definition, does not mean "cash". Any type of financial interest meets the criteria even if someone is not being specifically compensated to edit. I do strongly recommend reading the notability and sourcing guidelines for companies as they are stringent. Also, using Wikipedia for for advertising/promotion is again policy. You may also consider An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing (i.e. Spick Media will not own the content nor will have any control/authority over it). Thanks for asking these questions, HarishM Chn. S0091 (talk) 21:17, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for sharing the details User:S0091 HarishM Chn (talk) 21:25, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@HarishM Chn if you or anyone affiliated with Spick Media has questions or needs help (outside of getting the draft approved), ask at the Teahouse where various editors are around to answer queries. On another note, having independent media coverage and accurate/independent polling is crucial for a democratic political process and if that the aim of Spick Media, then I do wish it success, Wikipedia article or not (and having a Wikipedia article does not equate to success). S0091 (talk) 21:37, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Official account means that as I'm handling the admin mail id, i mentioned it in that way. This account is by me, an individual - M Harish User:S0091 HarishM Chn (talk) 21:27, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that was the case @HarishM Chn but appreciate the clarification. S0091 (talk) 21:39, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying User:S0091 HarishM Chn (talk) 21:51, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, VPriyankaIyer, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!
