Re: Erik Tønne

I interpret top-level league as meaning a top tier league, but seeing as mid-level leagues are also referred to I'm not sure now. But if it doesn't refer to top tier leagues, how do we define top-level league? Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:28, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi there M86, AL "here",

i'll have a look alright, but it MOST DEFINITELY looks like Mr.Clotet himself or a relative/agent. If you notice, they often engage in words like "talents", "attractive football" that "still resides in Malmö today" (?!). The REF#1, in Swedish and added by someone else, was summarily removed by this person without one word of explanation.

I'll most likely do the same to their "work" (with summary of course), and leave the refs if they adapt to the text. Additionally, you might want to add the article to your watchlist (i don't have one anymore, to "lighten the wikiload") and warn me if they strike again!

Thanks for the tip, keep it up (ah, and i'll drop a line when i finish my revision) --AL (talk) 13:52, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Done! I managed to keep two of the three refs (this one - see here http://www.aftenbladet.no/100Sport/fotball/eliteserien/-200251_1.snd#.UlVmaNxdb5p - seemed to be a repetition of the manager leaving Viking, but if you think it adds anything to the article, please re-add it by all means), but REF#1 did not say anything about his work with Espanyol youths, so i had to relocate it. Also, storyline was ripe with POV and redirects.

Could you please engage in superteamwork and add Norwegian TRANS_TITLES for refs #3 and #4? I (and WP of course) would highly appreciate it :)

No doubt this user will return (i have seen this case of relatives and/or agents coming in and "doing their thing" in for example Manuel Cajuda and João Carlos Pereira), tip me please if this occurs, or just revert/rollback it if nothing else needs to be done. Cheers! --AL (talk) 14:40, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

re: 2013–14 Liverpool F.C. season League Performance

It is edit warring to edit something according to what the given source says? That is ridicoulous to me. We have to follow the source! And who the hell are you hiding behind an IP never edited before? Get back into the hole you came from or create an account and stand for what you are saying. The fact is that I got this warning after two edits since 15 September (one 3 October and one in 8 October) looking at the page history and an admin told me that "Looking at the history again I admit the warning was perhaps a bit premature" on my talkpage. I feel that I was not edit warring and that I was totally correct removing what was edited against given source (so it was vandalism). If the editor edited both source and number in table before reverting it, then it would have been edit warring over source, but now it was just disruptive/vandalism when editing against a given source. Cristian is a Spanish Peruvian, he was born in Spain to Spanish father and Peruvian mother. He does play for Peru, but I do not know if he renounced his Spanish citizenship (highly unlikely). Similar to the actress Grace Park being born in the United States, but grew up in Canada. I hate when editors feud over the point. Thanks! Raul17 (talk) 18:13, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, when it comes to footballers the easiest thing is too name the nationality after what national team they represented. The case is slightly different with Grace Park, as she doesn't "represent" any of the nations she has lived in. Mentoz86 (talk) 09:50, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes. A very bad example! The best I have seen that handles that well is Pepe's page: "Born in Brazil, Pepe represented Portugal at international level." The best excuse for my position is ice hockey's Darius Kasparaitis. He played for Russia, but he doesn't himself Russian, but Lithuanian. Is there anything wrong with Rubén Belima's description? Thanks! Raul17 (talk) 22:29, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the way it is done in Pepe's article is a the best way of describing this. I don't know about Belima, but there is a big difference between being born somewhere and being born and raised somewhere. If you take a couple of Norwegian-Americans as an example: Brede Hangeland was born in Houston (when his father was working there) and grew up in Norway, so in my opinion it is wrong to describe him as an "American-born Norwegian footballer". On the other side, Mikkel Diskerud was born in Norway and has lived in Norway his entire life, but chose to play for the United States national team - to describe him as a Norwegian-born American footballer is reasonable, but the way it is described in Pepe's article is the best option. Mentoz86 (talk) 22:44, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. I will use the Pepe example for those "multi-national" players. Thanks for your time & help!! Raul17 (talk) 01:02, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

"League performance"

Hello Mentoz86, I am currently in a dispute with users JMHamo and Qed237 over the use of "league performance" rather than "results by round". They're arguing that a consensus was reached to call it league performance, while the only consensus I read was that there aren't rounds in the Premier League. So I argued against the use of "league performance", a vague term in itself, given that the league table, the results summary, and the matches sections are all indicative of how a club performed in the league as well. I move to have it changed to "results by matchday." What is your opinion? Italia2006 (talk) 13:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

With pleasure, of course. Otherwise, I would have elaborated a bit in my support vote. -- I am not as experienced as Mr. Stradivarius, but I have followed a couple of RfAs and I am very confident you will pass. What can never be guaranteed though, as you can see in the RfA guide, is that the process will be totally smooth and pleasant. There may always be some users who in a scrutiny process will find this and that AfD votes or CDSs that weren’t quite good and focus on that. I have also seen a tendency in some RfAs that some voters regard the Q&A section almost as a bar examination and are very quick to voice concern if they find any question less than perfect. But most voters are soundly able to focus on the broad picture and not distracted by this or that occasional mistake. In general, the community likes no-drama users who are focused on building the encyclopedia and don’t spend too much time in needless conflicts and meta-dramas. I believe your history of vast experience in content building and a few admin areas; pleasant interaction with other users, combined with little drama will sit very well with the community. Thank you. I'm a bit curious how you from Scotland discovered this Norwegian amateur side. :P Their website doesn't indicate that they are the slightest professional. Their profile at nifs.no (Amedia's stats-site), shows that the team played at the fourth tier (the 3. divisjon) between 2006 and 2009, and qualified for the Norwegian Football Cup in 2007 and 2008, where they were elimanted by Mjøndalen IF and Skeid Fotball respectively, and was eliminated in the qualifying phase in 2006 and 2009. WhatLinksHere indicates that the team also played at the fourth tier in 1992 (and that is confirmed by [1]), and they could have played there prior to 1992 as that year are the first of our fourth-tier articles, so we have to search through RSSSF archives to find out. This useful tool indicates however that they hasn't played at the third tier at all (unless the list is incomplete, but RSSSF claim that it is complete). To sum up, it meets our convention that teams that have participated in the Norwegian Cup or played in the 3. divisjon are notable, but I'm not certain whether such an article would meet GNG (though most articles about 3. Divisjon-only teams doesn't). Hope this helps. Mentoz86 (talk) 21:35, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I can't quite figure their angle but was a bit frustrated ... and I had wondered about that other new editor while but then their user page went blue from a banned sockpuppet notice. However, I am not at all sure I've got it NPOV (or up to date) and have left an update to that effect on the talk page. Iselilja edited it earlier; I'm hoping for some further assistance from Norwegian editors. Thanks for looking. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:01, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello. I took a look at the current version, and I think it looks quite fine. The sentence "The hijacker killed the driver and both passengers with a knife" might do with a qualification since there is no verdict yet, but I guess it's debatable how much qualifications we shall make when the facts appear quite clear (and are presented as such by the media). I am going to remove the "murder in Norway" category added by sockpuppet, since we don't have a conviction yet. I indicated on the talk page that I planned to expand the article, and I did in fact have a thought about trying to do a five-fold expansion and nominate for DYK, but I was distracted partly by the sockpuppet edits and then some other things outside the article, and now I have pretty much lost interest in it. Ideally, it should of course be expanded and needs ongoing update about the suspect/trial, but since we are so few editing about Norway, it's more the rule than exeption than the quality of articles end up somewhat lacking. - I have to confess that I was quite aware all the time who the "mastermind" behind the Funny Linguist was. I have a probably regrettable tendency to sometimes give him a pass if he is editing relatively benevolently and not committing BLP violations. But he was involved in BLP editing in at least one of the other accounts that the CU found "Now they turn the woman who destroyed the police's computer system—into the governments datasjef", so it's a good thing he was reported. And I should have reported him anyway, since he was causing trouble for you. So sorry for that. Regards, Iselilja (talk) 23:22, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Ah I see - no worries, and I've implemented both your suggestions for now to be on the safe side. Yngvadottir (talk) 18:16, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Someone raised an issue about the hook for this one at WP:Main Page/Errors, and after looking at the article, I changed it from "titles" to "title". However, I note the infobox lists them as winning more than one distinction this season, so if that was what you meant, let me know - preferably at the Main Page/Errors thread, for neatness - and I'll undo the change. I'm so sorry - I was using my phone to fix something related to WP:DYK, and while doing this I thought I misclicked the WP:ROLLBACK buttom, but when I checked the history of WT:FOOTY it was no sign of my revert so I thought I was lucky to escape a misclick. Flagicons 2014 Tippeligaen

Hi!
I see you removed the flags from the manager section. I would like to point out that pretty much every league season article use flags to specify the managers nationality. And in the modern world of international football, the nationality of a player, or a manager is relevant information which should be stated. Of 2013-14 top league articles for UEFA, only Norway, Scotland and Slovakia lists managers without using a flag. And I feel that the Norwegian article as well should follow the established norm. --Kjello (talk) 22:55, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Request page protection for Neymar

Hi Mentoz, repeated vandalism (almost always by ip user) on Neymar article, and given it is one of the most visited sports bios on wiki (and add in the fact it's World Cup year so the traffic is only going to increase), I'm requesting Page protection (probably a one year lock) which should take care of it. Cheers.Chie one (talk) 15:51, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, after my 24h semi-protection, I monitored the article to see if there was any more vandalism, to figure out if I should semi-protect it long-term or not, but was sleeping when you sent me this message. Fortunately, Mattythewhite protected the article for a month. Btw - why do you write that you wrote this post at 15:51 (UTC), when you wrote it 20:13 (UTC)? Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!

Hello Mentoz86, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Re: User:Bj94

Hi, Merry Christmas to you too. I agree, a v4im warning then a block, and considering it's the same individual as the IP the length ought to be determined by the IP's last block. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:39, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Happy New Year to you too. How certain are you that Bj94 is the same individual as 85.89.0.161? Do you know the IPs he/she used in between these accounts? Just I don't want to give this individual a long-term block if he/she isn't the same as the original IP. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 20:47, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Not sure what makes you think Mr Mell's scoring Scarborough's first League goal isn't included in the citation. The Observer piece entitled "Wolves send in the clowns" contains the wording "So began the League of experience of Scarborough, last year's winners of the GM Conference...", which verifies the match as their first in the League, and then "And after nine minutes Mell, a Doncaster fireman and last season's leading scorer, put Scarborough ahead from an incisive pass from Hamill." Seems pretty explicit to me. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:37, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
