Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 16:28, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand that I made a mistake by including a web site link on my page and that is not acceptable. I am sorry, and I promise not to post anything to this page that is promotional. I only want to write about the history of the company. I hope to contribute to future content with regards to helping people understand the history of cloud computing. Please let me have another chance. Independenceit (talk) 19:00, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I like what I'm reading, but you also need to address the username issue. Use {{unblock-un}} to request a new username. — Daniel Case (talk) 19:46, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I would like to comply with the rules. The company name that I will be writing a history on is independenceIT and I realize you do not allow a user name to begin with a lowercase letter, so would IndependenceIT work as a new user name? I will only write about the history of the company, as I feel the company plays an important role in the overall history of cloud computing. I will be sure not to include anything that would seem to be promoting the company. Independenceit (talk) 23:43, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I think you need to re-read the section on why your current username is a problem, it's nothing to do upper or lowercase. I also suggest you have a read of WP:COI, WP:NEUTRAL and WP:NOTABLE Jac16888 Talk 00:03, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thank you. I read through everything you recommended, and I agree to comply. In reading the user name policy again, I think I have a better understanding of where I went wrong when creating a user name. I hope this is acceptable. I will be very careful with my post so that it contains only factual information. I will not include anything that would be considered promotional. Could you please unblock me and give me another chance? Independenceit (talk) 01:04, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Given that your only edits have been to create a spammy user page (as a draft article?) about your company, please explain - in detail - the topics you intend to edit when unblocked. Nick-D (talk) 05:15, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please read WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. Do you understand it, and are you willing to agree to comply with it? Wikipedia is extremely resistant to being used for any kind of promotion, and we find that users with a conflict of interest very often have a different idea from ours of what is or is not promotional. Request reason:

I honestly didn't intend to create a "spammy" page - I just didn't realize I couldn't go back in and edit what I wrote before. I want to contribute, but will not submit something until I know it's ready. I definitely understand the Best Practices, and I agree to comply. Please unblock me so I can have another chance to contribute. Independenceit (talk) 02:01, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please change my user name. I do not wish to edit, and do not wish to use my previous content. Independenceit (talk) 18:13, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I changed the block settings so you can make a new account. As there are really no substantive contributions to transfer, I would suggest going ahead and making whatever new account you want. This account should stay blocked -- Samir 14:21, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
