A note about the 3RR

Just to say, you were doing the right thing in trying to defend the status quo on the Chancellor of Germany article, just not going about it in the right way. The thing to do if you are outnumbered by POV editors like that is to tell other editors about what is happening. Don't ever perform more than 3 reverts on one article in 24 hours - quite apart from getting blocked it sends the wrong signal to your fellow editors. --- Charles Stewart 17:38, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Please don't ever assume that it's obvious why you're reverting something. Editors have differences of opinion all the time and reverting is not the proper way to settle these differences, especially without an edit summary. Tedernst 18:00, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

In regard to my recent revert on this article, I'd like to explain my actions. The only reason I reverted to one of your previous versions was because you replaced the section titles with decades, in this edit. I personally just felt that previously section headlines were better suited for this article. I don't wish to get into an edit war over this. This is the English Wikipedia. If we don't have an English article about Milo Dor, the link should be red. Sometime someone may write one, then it will turn blue. Varizer 21:06, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Ah, I see. And as long as the link stays red people are disencouraged from accessing the German Wikipedia. This is strong on principles but weak on practicability. <KF> 23:49, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Just a polite note. I know that feelings over the great userbox purge have been getting heated, but your edit to Wgfinley's RFA [1] still looks like a fairly unprovoked personal attack on Kelly Martin. You're absolutely entitled to your vote and opinion but I would hope you might, on mature reflection, like to reword it. I generally find that civility is not just policy, it's also its own reward, and I'm sure that in the unlikely event of people complaining about your actions, you'd prefer them not to be personal about it. George Mills (Black Rod)

Hi there.

I've noticed that you've moved George Mills (Black Rod) from George Holroyd Mills. I take the view that the page was better under George Holroyd Mills (see below), but if the <first name> <last name> (disambiguator) is specified as policy then I will, of course, fit in. If it is policy, I'd be grateful if you'd point me in the right direction as I searched and cannot find such a policy (I will be writings lots more bio pages and this knowledge would be useful).

If, however, the above format is not policy then I would ask you to consider the following points:

• Lots of other bio articles use more than two names.
• A person's full name is their natural identfier (outside the Wikipedia).
• If we have to use a disambiguator (and sometimes we do) then what we use could be debateable or POV.
• If no-one else has the same full name then we have a unique identifier which can be objectively determined.

I would, of course, want to enter a line on the <first name> <last name> disambiguation page to link to the full name page.

In the case of George Mills, the choice of (Black Rod) does not properly reflect his life's achivements. His RAF career spanned 39 years (during which time he was a Cold War Commander-in-Chief of Bomber Command and the Commander of the Allied Air Force Central Europe). He was Black Rod for 11 years.

Depending on your answer I intend to move George Mills (Black Rod) back to George Holroyd Mills or to George Mills (RAF officer). I am open to other suggestions though. Greenshed 22:42, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), which says: "Adding middle names, or their abbreviations, merely for disambiguation purposes (that is: if this format of the name is not the commonly used one to refer to this person): not advised." The title should be the common name of the person, not the full one. But a move to George Mills (RAF officer) is OK. Varizer 23:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
