Orphaned non-free media (Image:DWS empty head.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DWS empty head.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

You've made contributions to Wilson the Volleyball. The article is now being considered for deletion. I am currently involved in giving the article a major overhaul to directly address Wilson's notability. And since you contributed information about Behind Enemy Lines, I ask that you might provide me with your source for that information so I might add that source as a reference in the article itself. Thank you, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:37, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

userbox conservative Republican

Hey. I'm a Republican, too, but I'm more conservative/libertarian (you know, what we now are forced to call a “classical liberal”). I've never really trolled User pages before so this is the first time I've seen userboxes, and I don't know the policy. May I adapt your userbox to make it just read "FLAG: This user is a Republican", or could you make a second box? Either way would be fine. Thanks a lot! i’m determined to stand, whether god will deliver me or not. — bob dylan (talk) 08:26, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Sure, whatever you want. I don't really edit anymore anyway. Veracious Rey (talk) 19:48, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Gerald Ford FAR

I have nominated Gerald Ford for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here.

Gerald Ford

Regarding the unprotection of Gerald Ford, the page is linked from the main page (or atleast it was when I unprotected it). Policy dictates that pages linked from the main page should not be protected for vandalism. Yet, it is common amongst administrators to temporarily protect pages linked from the main page when vandalism gets to be unbearable. Anyhow, protecting a page for over a 2 days (as was the case in Gerald Ford) when it is still protected from the main page is not acceptable. The pages linked from the main page are most often seen and thus, attract the attention of those people who don't have Wikipedia accounts (i.e., anonymous editors) and encourage them to edit, if need be. Protecting the page is counter intuitive to the concept of a wiki where "anyone can edit". See Wikipedia:Protection_policy#A temporary protection is used for: for the portion of policy that I cited. Edit request: Border color

The border color is pink. Pink? Could we change the color to something a little less baby girls room. I don't care, something neutral. As long as it's not pink. Veracious Rey talkcontribs 04:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I didn't quite fulfill your request; instead, I've added a few parameters to the template. You'll be able to change (a) the border color, (b) the border width, and (c) the background color. I didn't change any of the defaults, but hopefully the ability to customize it will keep people happier. Examples:
{{Userpage
  |border-c=
  |border-s=
  |background=
}}
As an example, {{Userpage|border-c=#000000|background=#fffff}} will give you a white background, black border, and will keep the current default of a 1-pixel wide border. You can keep the template code on multiple lines, as above, or on one line, as in this example.
If you need any help beyond that, let me know. Luna Santin 21:58, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Athletics heading in Gerald Ford article

I was the one who changed that heading. I reasoned that since there was information about his fraternity there, not related to athletics, a more generic heading of college was in order. Also, someone else may, in the future, add other academic information there. Since the subject of the article is not someone who is more notable for his political achievements than his athletic ones, I thought that heading was more appropriate. Also, why did you remove the information about his summer job as a park ranger at Yellowstone? It was fully referenced. --rogerd 20:16, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Nearly 90% of that section is devoted to Ford's history in football, both in high school and college, with some mention of boxing. If you summed the section up in one sentence, it would be Ford was especially gifted in sports, particullary football. That's why it is titles Athletics. College was too vague, and anyway it was titled Football by me before you changed it. So, Athletics is a compromise between the two.
Concerning your info on Yellowstone, it has no bearing in that section. How do you go from talking about Ford playing football to a tidbit on him at Yellowstone? That's more of a "did you know" bit of info, which isn't encyclopedic. If there was a section of Ford's outside interests, other than sports, it might fit. But remember, this article already gained "featured status". So any additional sections would more than likely be unneccessary. Veracious Rey talkcontribs 21:09, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
It is part of a larger section called "Early life". I still maintain that the section about his UM days shouldn't be confined to sports, since he was not a sports figure. I think the part about his work in the National Parks is significant, and should be included in the "Early life" section, but perhaps not in the section about his college education, since it was between his undergraduate work and law school.
The implication that just because the article is a "featured article", that it still can't grow is just plain silly. The referenced NPS article was just written after his death. --rogerd 01:02, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Also, the Freemasonry section is a bit excessive, and has also been added since it became an FA. Perhaps you should remove that, too. --rogerd 01:05, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding [1]: First, commenting on a three-month-old discussion is not productive; few people are going to notice it and it would be unlikely to produce any discussion. Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly, as you are doing in Gerald Ford. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. Metros232 02:19, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Fletcher gov.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fletcher gov.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 20:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

US-baseball-bio-stub

Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories - including the one you created for this stub type! - and on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.

In the case of your new stub type, it is already covered by the long existing baseball-bio-stub and all is subtypes. Since over 90% of all baseball players are from the US, it makes little sense to divide them by nationality, and instead they are divided by rolee (there are separate stub types for pitcher, outfielder, infielder, catcher and manager). Also, it makes litle sense for your category to have various boxing related categories as its parent! Your new stub type has beeen taken to WP:SFD - please feel free to make any comments there as to its potential. Grutness...wha? 03:09, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Wpb.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wpb.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NMajdantalk 22:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Category:American liberals

Looking on your userpage I see that you are a fellow conservative and a Republican. Even though there is a category labeling "American conservatives", the category labeling "American liberals" is up for deletion. This is obviously by liberals who don't want the bias pov of liberal celebrities and public figures to be known. So they don't want them categorized as what they are...liberals. I'm asking you to go to "Category:American liberals" follow the link to the nomination page and please vote to keep the category. -- AmeriCan 17:34, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Spidey 3

I trimmed down the quote that you drew from Yahoo! Movies, since I don't think it's always appropriate to quote at length. My issue with the setup before was that the quote was incorrectly referenced to Sci Fi Wire when the citation pointed to Yahoo! Movies. Plus, I think the placement of the Yahoo! citation also got between two statements that were actually from Sci Fi Wire, with the first statement lacking a reference. It's fine now, but let me know if you feel too much context has been removed. I didn't think that being proud of the first three movies was necessary, and he basically repeated "if we make a good movie" twice, so I tried to remove the redundancy. If there's any issues, you know how to contact me. —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 13:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

If you want to see a mess over constructive changes, check out 300. People are debating whether it's fictional or not, so there's plenty of nice national biases involved. Hope you can stick around for when Spider-Man 3 premieres; hopefully vandals will be so impressed by the content that they won't bother to touch the page. :-P —Erik (talkcontribreview) - 14:08, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Eddie Brock AKA Venom.JPG

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Eddie Brock AKA Venom.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 21:51, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 19:11, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Eddie Brock AKA Venom.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Eddie Brock AKA Venom.JPG.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:03, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
