Reward for Script
If someone can write a script that puts a tab on the top of my screen (like the Twinkle and Friendly tabs) to easily allow me to chance my status at User:Vicenarian/Status, I will give them barnstars and will basically be their slave for life. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 21:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- You do use Qui, right? IIRC, Qui allows you to easily change your status; maybe you could request that TheDJ (talk · contribs) (the creator of Qui) incorporate a tabulated form of the feature into the script? I'd write a script myself, but my tech experience is too limited.
- And you're already my slave for life... mwahahahahaha!!!!! --Dylan620 (contribs, logs)help us! 23:20, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I did use Qui, but it's limited in the number of "status" options. And I ain't your slave! But I would be appreciative if you would give my very first DYK hook extra special former adopter treatment. ;) Vicenarian (Said · Done) 23:22, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you're asking me to review your hook, User:Francium12 already got to it. Another thing for me to do is to ship the hook off to a prep area, but the general way of doing so is going up the list of approved hooks from the bottom – and your hook is at the very top. Sorry, pal. :( BTW, I saw you shipped a hook off to a prep area; you plan on becoming active at DYK? We could never use enough help there! --Dylan620 (contribs, logs)help us! 23:41, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

- Verily, I shall have a look-see. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 22:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- Moved some sections around per MOS:LAYOUT. Section headings should only have the first word capitalized (not how I would do it if I had my say, but I follow the consensus-built style guideline). I would put a "Synopsis" section above "Analysis," giving a brief overview of what was said in the sermon. Good start, though. Mark it a stub and move it mainspace, son. Well, you are doing well with a really sticky situation. Sorry you withdrew you admin nomination, but this kind of dispute resolution is precisely the sort of thing that'll get you the nod later on. As for me, not too bad. Working on a couple of new R/C model planes; I do product reviews for a major internet hobby site and I got me a beaut of a P-40 Warhawk to review. The thing even has preinstalled retracts which work like the full-scale bird! Will be digging into the writing, photographing and assembling real soon. PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:39, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've ALWAYS wanted to get and fly an RC model plane. At the risk of violating WP:NOTMYSPACE, do you have any suggestions for a good, inexpensive one? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 03:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Welcome to Did you know...
Hello! I noticed that you've been reviewing a lot of nominations at the DYK suggestions page. Thank you for your help, and I hope you will continue to contribute! As you know, you don't need to be an administrator to review hooks or to move hooks to Preparation area, so your help is more than welcome.
You may already be familiar with the DYK rules by now, but in case you aren't, you can check out the official rules and the Additional Rules. You may also want to look into some useful tools that can allow you to review nominations more quickly: the Cut & Paste character counter is a helpful JavaScript to calculate the length of hooks, and DYKcheck is a script you can install on your own Wikipedia account for more heavy-duty verifying.
The best way to learn is by doing, but here is also a quick reference of the things to check for each hook you review:

HI, I was wondering how many edits i have done (not many). How do i find out? VTomi (talk) 17:45, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- There are a couple of ways. My favorite is to use WP:POPUPS (requires JavaScript). You can enable popups by going to "Gadgets" in "My Preferences." Once enable, simply roll your mouse cursor over your signature. A box will pop up, and at the bottom will be your edit count, your user rights and the date your account was created. This works the same for any other user - just roll your mouse over their signature. Popups also gives you a mousetip preview of pages, diffs... just about everything on WP. I highly recommend it. I appreciate the work you've done at DYK lately preparing sets and verifying. Try to keep the two separate though; don't verify and promote in one edit. Many verified hooks have problems that are later found. I suggest at least 24 hours between verifying and promoting, and if you can, avoid promoting hooks you've verified. At DYK each step acts as a check & balance if a different person does it. You could get 3 people, then, looking over the hooks: the verifier, the set assembler, and the admin who promotes it to a numbered queue. If two of these are the same, it reduces the number of checks (and people tend to get more riotous if a problem is found after it hits the Main Page). Again, thanks for your help, and feel free to ask questions. Shubinator (talk) 22:34, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks, I understand. I got a bit overeager... there were slots to fill and I was there to fill them. :) I will only promote hooks verified by others and only choose hooks verified at least 24 hours ago. And if you could great a new DYK bot... that would be brilliant. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 00:51, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Lord Spongefrog, (I am a flesh-eating robot) 16:09, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

- Well, you missed a weird discussion on User talk:Midnight Comet's talk page about stalkers, and me getting my 20th Barnstar. Probably a lot more I don't know about. Lord Spongefrog, (I am a flesh-eating robot) 16:15, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

- Yessir, Lord Sponge. Congrats on the shiny new barnstar. The V-Man (Said · Done) 16:17, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- If I was to reply to this, it would, let alone being unnecessary, most likely result in a response from you. I would feel obloged to respond back to such a response, and you would, in turn, respond to that. This would go on until one of us gets bored or, more likely, dies. So I'll not respond. Agh! Wait. I just have. Well pretend I haven't. Lord Spongefrog, (I am a flesh-eating robot) 16:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Welcome back! As you've already seen, when you leave, everyone goes bonkers. Anyways I've been meaning to give you this.

Personal Attack
Hi - you seem like a nice wikipedian who's more versed than I am in the admin-like policies etc. Does calling a wikipedian a "vandal" in an edit summary (as in "responding to vandal") count as a personal attack? You can reply here or on my talk page, I'll check both. Thanks. Luminifer (talk) 20:28, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Luminifer, thanks for stopping by. To answer your question, in general, yes, calling someone a vandal would constitute a personal attack, though the severity of said attack (and the appropriate response) would depend on the situation. The quick way to remember no personal attacks is "Comment on content, not contributors." This goes for any editor. There is a difference between "Your edits constitute vandalism" and "You are a vandal"; one is about what the user is doing, the other is about the user him/herself. Generally, no one here knows anyone else beyond the contributions they make, so it is only fair to consider those contributions to the exclusion of most anything else. A good essay on this is Wikipedia:Do not insult the vandals. Insulting vandals can sometimes have the effect of egging them on, so it's best to deny them recognition. I hope this answers your question. Take care, The V-Man (Said · Done) 20:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! Well then... Is there something I should do (in your opinion, or according to official policy) for being (wrongly, even) referred to as a vandal? I would let it slide, except for the fact that this editor has (from what I've seen) had a habit of alienating a lot of people from the articles he (I think I use this word correctly) polices.. Luminifer (talk) 21:04, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you have a concern about the behavior of a particular user, the first step is usually to politely mention something to them on their talk page. Many times, just pointing out how someone's behavior might be construed as disruptive will cause the person to step back and reassess, especially if they're not aware of the effect of what they are doing. However, if you try that, or it's an issue that more immediately needs wider attention, you can head here and open a thread. Regards, The V-Man (Said · Done) 21:09, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- I tried mentioning it (even though I wasn't optimistic), and indeed got a negative response, so I posted it. Thanks again! Luminifer (talk) 15:21, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

re: Household Hacker GA review
Thank you for taking the time to review Household Hacker and ultimately for promoting it to GA status. I agree completely that it would require significant work to achieve FA status, and would like to add that I think it is a good example of why the good article status was added. The sources simply do not exist that would allow it to be covered in sufficient detail to be a featured article. Many subjects fall into this same category, which, I think, is part of the reason the GA status exists.
Thanks again for your time, and I look forward to working with you again in the future. --ThaddeusB (talk) 13:31, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi
This is not actually a hi, it is a serious issue which will define my conduct for the rest of my Wiki-life. Could you take a look at this. I reverted the edit before mine (sorry, sorry, I misinterprited it as vandalism, I accept that, it was unexplained section blanking though), but (I think the same IP with a new account) someone reverted my revert, claiming it is specualtion and poorly referenced. I don't know if this counts as speculation, because it is reporting something that is speculation/research. I don't know. If you look at it you'll see. I'm not trying to say I'm right, I know I'm probably wrong. Help! Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 19:02, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

- I apologize for the continued delay. Indeed, real life intervenes in most irritating ways. However, a critical skill required to be an effective (and drama-free) Wikipedian is patience and civility. Consider this part of that lesson. While you're waiting, go out and work! There's plenty to do and the need for work is never ending. If you're interested in reviewing good articles, WP:GAN has a nice backlog you can help tackle. If you're interested in fighting vandalism, head over to the WP:CVU for advice on where to start. If you just want something to do, WP:CLEANUP is ALWAYS full of thankless, yet vital tasks. If there's a topic you're interested in and you don't see an article for it, try your hand at writing one in your userspace. No need to wait on slow old me to get your fill of life as an editor. Cheers, The V-Man (Said · Done) 20:19, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Damn. I had a brilliant quote of yours to respond to that, Javert, but I can't find the diff. Never mind, Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 20:02, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Removing mfd Notice
Please don't. That's not cool. To answer your question, why put them there to begin with, per WP:NOTWEBHOST is the reason. Thanks! Naluboutes, Nalubotes Aeria gloris, Aeria gloris 19:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- You originally failed to create the actual MfD page or tag the page to be deleted. I removed your transclusion from MfD and notice from User:Abce2's talk page as it seemed the MfD nomination had not been followed through on. You have correctly created the MfD now and the discussion on whether or not to delete the page will take place there. Thank you, The V-Man (Said · Done) 19:49, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again...
I tell you, I can't believe this site at times. Peopleseem to think they have a right to add whatever they want and then they get their panties in a bunch when their stuff gets deleted, all because they don't read the rules. Thanks for the assist. Again. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by PMDrive1061 (talk • contribs)

Please be in. THis guy called User talk:ARVN Kid keeps making unsourced edits to Pham Van Dong (ARVN general) like here. I've tried contacting him via talk page, but he won't respond. I might have to just undo all the edit in the morining when he's gone. Help Me! Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 20:44, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
