User talk:Vijay Chopra
Welcome!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, VJ! I am Marek69 and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page User:ClueBot/FalsePositives. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. Maen. K. A. (talk) 13:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not a vandal and have replied to your comment on your talk pageVJ (talk) 13:48, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- I am so sorry thats probably my mistake, please accept this apology and enjoy editing :-) Maen. K. A. (talk) 15:03, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, we all make mistakes, I know I've made my own fair share before.VJ (talk) 15:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Districts of Southampton
[edit]Hi - I see that you have been moving the articles to use the Southampton suffix rather than Hampshire. Is there a consensus to do this, or is this on your own initiative? I'm not objecting (indeed I approve 100%), but when I queried the article names 18 months ago (see Talk:Southampton#Naming of articles about city suburbs), I got so much flak that I went away, licked my wounds and forgot about it. (In fact I nearly stopped editing on Wikipedia altogether but decided I liked it too much, and there's plenty to do without having to cross paths with some of the users who contributed to that "discussion".)
I await your comments with great interest. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:18, 19 March 2009 (UTC) (A long term resident of Shirley, Southampton, not Hampshire!)
- I did this on my own initiative after close reading of Wikipedia polices, I could only find an oblique reference in WP:Names as to why they were all Hampshire instead of Southampton (I didn't see the discussion in your link as I only checked the individual article talk pages), and no one had explained why they were like that in talk so I assumed it was a mistake and started moving themVJ (talk) 13:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, there's certainly no consensus for moving the pages to ", Southampton", and moves en mass like this definitely need to establish consensus through the WP:RM process first, so I have reverted. waggers (talk) 21:17, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- First see my rely to Daemonic Kangaroo above, second there although there was no consensus to move, no one had explained why they should be kept in such a ridiculous place, despite requests on talk pages. Therefore I assumed that there was no good reason (WP:RM only applies to controversial moves) and started moving. If you have a good reason please feel free to post it. Thanks VJ (talk) 13:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- There's nothing ridiculous about the existing naming convention, which has been in use for several years without any problems. You can find it at WP:NC:CITY. Given that this move has been discussed, and even attempted and reverted in the past (see the history of some of the articles - Highfield, for example), and the large number of articles involved, as well as being against the naming convention, the move you made is indeed controversial and therefore WP:RM most definitely applies. waggers (talk) 14:03, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- In all the discussions I've seen about this topic, you are the only person arguing against a move. I believe that there's consensus for a move; however, just for you I'm referring the whole thing to WP:RM I will make the request in Talk:Shirley,_Hampshire as it serves as a good example of where "district, City" makes more sense than "district, County" Honestly, we really should just use WP:COMMON and make the move. Oscar Gobern
[edit]Thanks for the message. As of today, 30th June, Gobern is still a Southampton player. We shall have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. Until there is an official announcement, from either of the clubs involved or from the BBC (not from Sky or any redtop paper), his transfer should not be treated as a fact.
I really fail to see why so many users think that Wikipedia is a news service and want to rush to be the first to announce a transfer. Let's all slow down and enjoy life more. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:12, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called VJ. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name VJ~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

About your rename request
[edit]Hi, As I can see you have requested a rename at meta. I just wanted to point that as both of the account has enwiki as home wiki you can also request at enwiki for quicker rename as it takes one month on meta compared to a week at enwiki. Welcome back! ‐‐1997kB (talk) 10:00, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
