About the Edit done for Kochi

[edit]

Why is the edit for Kochi undone. Please provide the reason Vishalmenon (talk) 15:47, 10 October 2017 (UTC) Vishalmenon (talk) 15:28, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have explained it in full above, but I will explain again. First, you changed the content of Kochi, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources. Second, you introduced Indic scripts to the infobox. Per WP:INDICSCRIPT these are not allowed. Also, please provide an edit summary to your edits. --Muhandes (talk) 17:23, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That is what i don't understand. Please explain in simple English. What do you mean by saying that i changed the content ? All i did is mentioned the name of the city in vernakular language and added some information relating to development agency . If you wanted to know thd source , you should have clicked on the http ;where you would be taken to another page in wikipedia that shares the information regarding the same. I have done edits in the page before where i have found discripencies regarding the information . I never heard it from you then ?Vishalmenon (talk) 15:53, 10 October 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vishalmenon (talkcontribs) 19:14, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please sign your messages. While I'm happy to assist, the best way to learn about the policies of Wikipedia is to click on the links I provided twice already. For the third time and in very simple English: When you claim that the metropolitan area of Kochi is 738 km2 and not 440km2 as a seemingly reliable source claims you need at least an equally reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources. This also applies when you make a claim about the demonym. Second, this policy will explain why you should not introduce Indic scripts to the infobox (what you called "mentioned the name of the city in vernakular language"). Some other information you added may have been reverted inadvertently and I tried to restore it. --Muhandes (talk) 12:08, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please find the link below : - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Cochin

This is the link that explains about Kochi Metropolitian Area . Please find the Metropolitian area mentioned here. You could also see the Indic Scripts that are used here. Then why not in this Page ? As far as development agency is concerned i have added GIDA also which you have undone . Are you from this City ? I think not .Please go through the link that have i provided & get yourself educated about it .Both the pages gives two different informations about the city which is misleading .please reply ! Vishalmenon (talk) 15:53, 10 October 2017 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Vishalmenon (talkcontribs) 13:40, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  1. For the second time, please sign your messages.
  2. I removed the Indic scripts from Greater Cochin, thanks for pointing that out.
  3. The development agency was restored to the article 1:40 hrs before your current message.
  4. You seem to be confusing Kochi Metropolitan Area and Greater Cochin. Also, I tagged the latter for sources, they are unclear. --Muhandes (talk) 15:29, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you ! for restoring the development agency "You seem to be confusing Kochi Metropolitan Area and Greater Cochin. "

Then please explain me the difference between Greater Cochin & Kochi Metropolitian Area.

please go through the link below & get yourself enlightened.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochi_Metropolitan_Area Vishalmenon (talk) 15:53, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the articles at all?

Kochi Urban Agglomeration is part of the Greater Cochin region ... The area consists of Corporation of Kochi (Cochin), 9 municipalities, 14 Panchayaths and parts of 4 Panchayaths.

Greater Cochin area consists of Cochin Corporation, 9 municipalities, 25 intervening panchayats and scattered islands around Kochi City (Goshree Islands).

I feel enlightened.
If you think these two are the same thing, propose a merge, don't waste my time. --Muhandes (talk) 16:51, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my god you are such an ignorant person that only your God can save you.

Look  ! you want to have a reliable source of the Metroplitian Area that I claim to be 732 sq.km

You have already redone my edit on Development Agency & had added GCDA & GIDA right  ! Now i'll share the links of GCDA & GIDA by the same wikipedia .Read it PROPERLY find the area that is mentioned under each of the development agencies & then total those areas . If you are serious about your job  ; please do a thorough check on it.This is the information shared by same Wikipedia. If you say the information that is provided from the Wikipedia needs source then ; there is a question on the information that is already shared through the site. Please go through it & make the change on the page or else please refrain from undoing some body's edit asking for source. More over wasting your time in learning some thing new is a bliss.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Cochin_Development_Authority GCDA

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goshree_Islands_Development_Authority GIDA

please don't say that the areas mentioned on both the pages are one & the same.

So, we have arrived at personal insults. I tried to help a new editor, and as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. If you ever edit without a source or introduce Indic scripts, consider yourself quadruple warned, next one is a ban. Have a great time. --Muhandes (talk) 17:53, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: please read WP:BRD and WP:CIVIL. --Muhandes (talk) 17:55, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I never tried to insult you personally,if you feel so i'm helpless. You can ban me i care a damn about it. But please have the courtesy to go through the information that i have provided .Than having a war of words. Please be open to take suggestions and don't act as per your perception. You can go thru it & plz make the changes or allow me to make the change.

Thank You !!! Vishalmenon (talk) 19:21, 10 October 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vishalmenon (talkcontribs) 18:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So, this was not aimed at me personally:

Oh my god you are such an ignorant person that only your God can save you.
— User:Vishalmenon

Pray tell, who was it aimed at? Maybe this insult was aimed at a larger group, maybe you would like to explain which group exactly you were insulting? --Muhandes (talk) 18:18, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Again i never tried to insult you personally; that i do not know who you are !!! You took it personally rather than professinally . I don't know even where you are located at or whether you are local or foreign . I even don't know whether it's the same person that responds to me every time i talk.

Your statement "Did you read the articles at all?"

This explains your(person or group) ignorance about the subject matter. What i'm trying to do is to explain to a person about the subject matter and the listner is totally unaware about the subject matter and is looking for some electronic sources which could be true or untrue. This is not your problem but this is a matter of ignore that you are totally alien to it. What i did is to make you understand the matter with the available data that i have at the moment.

When i'm taking my time to explain you this .You say that

"I feel enlightened. If you think these two are the same thing, propose a merge, don't waste my time. --Muhandes (talk) 16:51, 10 October 2017 (UTC)"

isn't this an insult to me .where you try to be circastic ?

I'm not here for a blame game .I said this because you have accused me that i'm insulting you personally when i take my time & energy to share some thing so that people get correct information .

Did you ever verified that facts that i have shared ?

I have done edit not only in this page but many other pages as well in Wikipedia where the information that was provided by you were outdated/incorrect.

As far as this page is concerned even i have edited the name of Police Commissioner & various other fields & no body did undone that.Of course you can google it to know the facts that i have provided is right or wrong. All of a sudden i find my edits undone & i have to have a duel with some one to prove me right.

You have undone all my edits in this page with out any cross verification & have redone some of them when you found that were true.

Who will take the resposibility of sharing wrong information ?

You have also threatned me of the consiquence.

"If you ever edit without a source or introduce Indic scripts, consider yourself quadruple warned, next one is a ban."

Let me ask you one thing. In Wikipedia i do see the use of a lot of Indic scripts. The information would be the vernakular form or the vernakular pronunciation of a word. The recent example that comes to my mind is the page about North Korean president where the vernakular script is used.

The reason i used Indic script is because i have seen it else where in Wikipedia.I think the policies are common to all .

Once again please go thru the links that i provided & the explanation that i have given. And do make the necessary changes if you feel that you are convinced. And there is no other source that i could get you right now but may be later that you don't ban me for the edits. But still i'm surprised how you arrived at 440 .

This is nothing offensive & a humble request. And you can report these comments as well to whom so ever concerned.

Thank You !!! Vishalmenon (talk) 19:21, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did not threaten you with anything, I warned you. I refuse to continue a discussion with someone who chooses personal insults over civility. Have fun. --Muhandes (talk) 22:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

After all the issue is not sorted out yet. I'm not here to have fun .Till now you didn't get back to me about the source of the information that i shared to substanciate my claim .Be profession (nothing offensive) we had this discussion for a cause & that is not addresed yet. Kindly reply to me about it or allow me to make the changes. We can end this conversation here & could save your valuable time.

Vishalmenon (talk) 03:43, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This conversation started since you asked for help. As I thought your heart is in the right place and you just needed some assistance, I did my best to assist. However, you decided to resort to personal insults (which I quoted above), so I am no longer interested. You have been given pointers (and ample warnings) about proper conduct, civility, reliable sources, signing your messages and Indic scripts. I suggest you read them all carefully before editing again. Against my common sense, which tells me you are incapable of civil discussion, here is the last pointer. The only way to achieve your goal is to through consensus. This cannot be achieved in your talk page (i.e. here), the proper place for it is the article's talk page. Make your learned suggestion there and achieve consensus. Have fun editing Wikipedia. --Muhandes (talk) 07:23, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I never asked you for any help .The conversation stared because you have undone my edit & i asked you why .

And what do you mean by this statement ?

" As I thought your heart is in the right place ."

Are you trying to insult me ?

& what about this ?

"Against my common sense, which tells me you are incapable of civil discussion, here is the last pointer. "

How dare you demean me ? Is this what you learn in Wikipedia policies ? What my common sense says is that you are not the right person to do this job .And whom so ever entrusted you have done a big mistake .

This is very Sircastic where you are trying to show your attitude and you purpousfully do not want to get me do the right thing either because of your ego or you don't want to admit your mistake.

Any how i'm going on with the edit as i think i have provided you the right source. And you are not ready to explain me whether it is sufficient for you or not ; rather you take this oppurtunity to belittle me. As admin you may have the access to ban me.But i'm sure i'll it forward with whom so ever.

I don't want to hear from you again as i'm not at all interested to have a talk with you which is futile.

Do what ever you can & i'll do the rest.

Thank you !!! Vishalmenon (talk) 16:53, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: please read WP:BRD and WP:CIVIL.

Vishalmenon (talk) 16:53, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Batternut. Your recent edit to the page Kochi appears to have added incorrect information, so I have removed it for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.

You changed the metro area for Kochi to 732km2 without providing your source. The source of this info is needed. Without it we must go with demographia, as currently referenced, which says 440km2. Batternut (talk) 08:21, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please provide me the source of infornation that says the area to be 440 sq.km. I have quoted your own information provided by Wikipedia as the source for 732 sq.km. Please read my above comments and please correct the information provided those pages if it is wrong.

Vishalmenon (talk) 12:28, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the information that is provided in Wikipedia .I can share you the source which justifies my argument which gives the same information that i think wikipedia could have used for updating in pages of GCDA & GIDA.please go thru it and convince your self. None of the information that i'm providing gives a figure of 440 sq.km that you claim to be correct .Please redo my edit as i had a horrible time explaning this to the previous editor.

Vishalmenon (talk) 12:44, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you had a horrible time with the discussion above. I'm afraid that chat was WP:TL;DR for me. Here is how I see things:

  1. Both of your references above give the area of the Greater Cochin Development Authority. This is not the same as the metropolitan area.
  2. (anyway, the references above give 632 sq.km, and you entered 732 sq km)
  3. The infobox metro area field has footnote to demographia which on page 21 holds line "Kochi, KL 2,515,000 170 440" which at the top of the table (page 18) explains is "Urban Area / Population Estimate / Square Miles / Square Kilometers"

This is why I believe the Kochi metro area to be 440 km2. Batternut (talk) 13:21, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Which is exactly what I tried to explain to him, when he started with the personal insults. --Muhandes (talk) 18:01, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since I never claimed to be an expert, may I repeat my ignored suggestion to the OP, that the discussion be moved to the article's talk page so wider consensus may be achieved? The distinction between Kochi Metropolitan Area and Greater Cochin may need to be clarified with some sources. --Muhandes (talk) 18:27, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can if you like, but to me it is clear: a metro area is defined by urbanization and commuting patterns, whereas a planning area is defined by government whim, making planning area statistics arbitrary and comparison of them pointless. Batternut (talk) 21:52, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Very well. As I said, I am far from being an expert so I'll take your word for it. --Muhandes (talk) 09:10, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your way of presenting the data with the source that you have attached and the way of your explanation to the point ; which was missing from the first person where he had refused to site any source of his argument & was very informal in conversation were he uses words such as "Have fun " "Simply Wasting my time "etc. which shows lack of professionalism.

As per you statement "# (anyway, the references above give 632 sq.km, and you entered 732 sq km)" i think you have not read my previous comments.I have provided you two links of two developmental agencies in the city which clearly shows the jurisdictions of areas of their operations. please open both the links and find the area mentioned in that and and plz add those. (i think you have opened only the first one )

I'm not sure whether you are from India. If not i should tell you that the classification of the metropolitian regions are based on the administrative structure .Where the metropolitian area could constitute of 1 or more cities , towns & even districts.

i have went through the data that you have attached along with your previous comment. And if you are taking that to be the standered source then please cross check the documents with the wikipedia pages of Delhi,Chennai ,Kolkata & Mumbai. The areas mentioned in those pages do not match to the source. More over the areas of Kochi & Chennai shows almost the same which is absurd as per common sense. Please check & revert.

Vishalmenon (talk) 12:57, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, Delhi is a good example. What do you think the metropolitan area of Delhi should be? The whole National Capital Region? Batternut (talk) 20:23, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What you have mentioned in pedia is the NCT area of Delhi which do not match with the information in the source data that you have provided .
