Vandalism

{{helpme}} Is there anyway you can request protection for an article? VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 01:13, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

  • You can request protection at WP:RFPP. Please review our policy first, though - protection is usually a last resort. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

{{helpme}} Someone added on my userpage that I am trying to learn Macedonian. This is outrageous; is there anyway to prevent this sort of thing from happening? Basically, they replaced "Currently, I am trying to learn German." with "Currently, I am trying to learn Macdonia lanugage. It is a very fun lanugage" [sic]. Since this was obviously made up, I feel vandalized.

It's the only revision not by me on my userpage. The change can be found on the first history page of the userpage.

I know that my editing will be changed hundreds of times, but this is different... VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 05:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Page protection can prevent certain users from editing a page (semi-protection prevents new accounts from editing, while full protection prevents all non-administrators from editing). Usually pages are only protected in the event of repeat abuse in a short period, but user pages in particular are generally protected on reasonable request. If you like, I could semi-protect your user page for you. – Luna Santin (talk) 06:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and remove the {{helpme}} tag, for now, but feel free to let me know if you'd like that protection. Cheers. – Luna Santin (talk) 07:57, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Categorization Problem

{{help me}} Could someone help me fix Category:Václav Havel plays and Category:Václav Havel works. I don't know what I've done to it.

  • Okay, I just asked an admin on IRC and they said generally it doesn't need to be semi-protected since it's only been vandalized once. Vandalism protection is only for repeated targets. It looks like you did get a semi-prot anyway. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 22:36, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I was asking about two categories, not my userpage. Unfortunately, I put the links in the wrong place which is probably why they didn't show. Nor was I asking for semi-protection. Vltava 68 (talk) 02:48, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Userboxes

{{helpme}} I've created a userbox that says I like Antonín Dvořák's music. What if I wanted to show it to others? VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 20:27, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

You can stick it in one of the galleries on WP:UBX :-) Stwalkerstertalk ] 20:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

{{helpme}} But how do I insert an image? VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 20:52, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. Algebraist 21:00, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Forgotten Password...

{{helpme}} I have forgotten my password; I just changed it this morning, around the same time I created some userboxes. I am now adding this from an IP address or an account created very recently (Vltava 5668) to use, for now, anyway. What should I do? I neglected the email field when creating/managing an account; this doesn't help either. I've put up a request on the USURP page for the account I created, but still.

So much for password fatigue... 203.188.92.70 (talk) 10:10, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, I suddenly realized what it [my password] was. VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 10:29, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
{{helpme}}
Then how do I terminate the Vltava 5668 account, seeing I don't need it? I'm very glad to be back. VltavaMusicFanatic (talk) 10:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Accounts cannot be deleted. If you want to, you can redirect Vltava 5668's user page and user talk page to VltavaMusicFanatic's, and maybe put an explanatory note on User:VltavaMusicFanatic, so everyone knows Vltava 5668 is the same person. Algebraist 11:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

References

{{helpme}} I know this is a really pointless question, whose answer I could probably find somewhere, but was is the {{Reflist}} tag for? I've tried to use it several times, but it didn't work, though maybe I was simply using the wrong brackets. Vltava 68 (talk) 09:54, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

If there are any references used in the article, it will list them there. Otherwise they don't show up. Tombomp (talk/contribs) 10:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi Vltava, the purpose of the {{reflist}} template is to display an article's list of in-text references. This is usually done by adding a new level-two header at the bottom of the page like this: ==References== , and add the {{reflist}} template one line below it. If you need any more help with referencing or anything else, let me know. JamieS93 10:03, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Poptropica

{{helpme}} For some reason, the reference list for Poptropica has disappeared. Could someone help? Vltava 68 (talk) 09:16, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Two problems, both fixed Dendodge|TalkContribs 09:57, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

{{helpme}} Is deleting criticism about the subject in a article vandalism? It has occurred in the Poptropica article, but I have added back the criticism information. If you look in the history page of the article, it is one of the more recent edits by Ugreen. Vltava 68 (talk) 22:42, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I have been researching reviews on Poptropica and the negative criticism mentioned on the Poptropica wiki, is FALSE. Whoever wrote them is making up quotes, facts, and references. For example, I couldn't find ANY information on the existence of "The children's computer bi-weeky times." Also the quote, "'The New York entertainment weekly stats that it 'is safer then club penguin, but way more boring'" cannot be found on the page referenced. That referenced article just discusses a Sears Ad Campaign, and doesn't review any games. Therefore, I deleted these criticism due to them being purely false and opinions of some disgruntled user. If there is negative criticism about Poptropica, that is fine, but they should be "real" and correctly referenced. (Ugreen (talk) 14:49, 28 August 2008 (UTC))
  • Sorry, I forgot to check the sources first, seeing I've been rather busy lately. Don't worry, I'm not responsible for the criticism... Vltava 68 (talk) 09:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

{{helpme}} For some reason, the entry for Spy Island on Poptropica has disappeared. However, it shows when you edit it. Vltava 68 (talk) 09:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Done, closed the ref tag. The Helpful One (Review) 09:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

User Page

{{helpme}} How could I organize my user page better (even though this is in effect a pointless question)? Vltava 68 (talk) 14:30, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, I think that your user page doesn't look to bad, and it's simple per K.I.S.S. However, if you would like some examples of userpages, see WP:UPDC. Hope this helps, The Helpful One (Review) 14:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Referencing

Hi Vltava 68! In response to your question:

Regular citations like this: <ref>reference here</ref> are also called "in-line references" because the "<ref>" adds an in-text footnote in the article. Clicking the numbered footnote (looking like "[1]") links to the "References" section at the bottom of the article. The {{Reflist}} template is used in a References section to display the references that are made by going: <ref>Ref here.</ref> like that.

The reason I called the regular references "in-text" (typically called "in-line") is because you can also simply make a list of references in a "References" section with a bulleted * list. This is fine to do, although it's best to use in-line references so you can cite specific facts inside an articles.

Does that make sense now? You can always test with the referencing system in your own personal sandbox page. I hope this helps, :-) JamieS93 14:35, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Adoption?

Although I have been here for one month, I would still like to have someone to guide me along the way. I know the basics, but I still have a lot to learn. --Vltava 68 (talk) 08:08, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I can help you with anything you might need to know on Wikipedia. Leave me a message on my talk page if you need help with anything, or if you want me to adopt you. Edgehead5150 (talk) 10:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Ok, i'll update the adoption templates now, and move yours from your talk page to the Userbox section on your User page. If you need anything else please let me know. Edgehead5150 (talk) 10:31, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Signature

{{help me}} How can I "customize" my signature? I've tried but it didn't work. Vltava 68 (talk) 09:24, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Without knowing exactly what you want, here are some pages that can help you.
Hope this helps. Regards, Matthewedwards (talk contribs  email) 09:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: Poptropica

I found the categories on an earlier version of the page, and added them back to the article. And yes articles are to be written in a third person point of view. Edgehead5150 talk 01:59, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

RE: <pre>

The <pre> tag shows text the way you typed it. You can see an example of the tag here. Edgehead5150 talk 18:29, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

RE:Vandalism

Yes you can give them a warning. Deleting content from talk pages is vandalism. You can use this template for the content removal: {{subst:uw-delete2}} ~~~~ , you can change the warning level of the template by changing the number from 1-4. Edgehead5150 talk 21:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I've given them the warning. But surely it would depend on what was deleted from the talk page? Vltava 68 (talk contribs) 07:11, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Task force for Requested Articles Page?

{{helpme}} Is there a task force or anything like that for keeping the requested articles pages in check and in order (i.e. removing existing articles for the list, added notes to the requests)? If so, I'd like to join one. Vltava 68 (talk contribs) 07:04, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no, there isn't. You could, however create your own if you're that desperate.--212.159.64.14 (talk) 11:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

You can find all the info you need to know about creating a task force at this link. Edgehead5150 talk 03:53, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

RE: Poptropica Citations Template

I would leave the template on the article for a while longer. Once the article gets a few more sources you can remove the template. Edgehead5150 talk 20:17, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I have nominated Category:Václav Havel plays (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for merging into Category:Václav Havel works (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. Magioladitis (talk) 00:06, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Vaclav Havel, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Vaclav Havel is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Vaclav Havel, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. RE:Menus

The area that says caption on your userboxes is the area where you can add more details on your userboxes. All you have to do is change the word "Caption" in the userbox code to anything else that you would like that area to say. Edgehead5150 19:36, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Röttingen

Hello Vltava 68,

thank you for your help. I´m glad to get some assistance, as my English is not very bad but i have little practice. So you are welcome! By the way: your name is very interesting for me: sounds like Smetana! greetings from the Romantic Road

--Metzner (talk) 23:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, time for some sort of announcement (if anyone reads this): In fact, my user name comes from the Smetana piece; maybe partly because I wanted something unique. I also came across the piece for the first time in a concert a month before that, so I was rather enchanted my it... My real name is another matter, though it's also artistic and geographical, though unfortunately not musical.Vltava 68 (talk contribs) 09:14, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
