Pastor Harry VD Khumalo- Swedish Free Church

[edit]

Pastor Harry Vusi Dumakude Khumalo, born 15 March 1972, in a small town called Volksrust, Mpumalanga, South Africa. He is the last born of his eleven (11) siblings. His parents were Philip Ngangenyoni (D. 17-11-2010) and Ebimah Shadile (born Mnisi) Khumalo (D. 02-12-2017).

He started his primary education at Zizameleni Primary School. He also studied at Osizweni, Newcastle (KZN), doing grade 4 and grade 5 and then back to Volksrust. He moved to Soweto while he was still young in 1989, where he continued with his grade 10 until grade 11 studies at a then notoriously known school called Lavela High School, situated in Zola North. In 1991he moved on to complete his matric (grade12) certificate in Mamelodi, Pretoria at a private British sponsored school known as Promat College 1.

He started working in June of 1994 at an ABSA Admin block as a query and data clerk, this is after he had completed his Banking Certificate studies (with a distinction) with the then Technikon Witwatersrand (now known as University of Johannesburg- UJ). Since then, he worked in different departments and at different major banks like FNB and STD Bank for a total banking experiance of twenty (20) years, and then he finally resigned as a banker in October 2014.

In the meantime, Harry was ordained pastor in March 2005 at a Swedish Free Church Conference that was held in Kameelrevier, KwaNdebele, Mpumalanga, under the leadership of the late President, Rev. NO Magagula, to lead a congregation that he had missioned (started) earlier in January 12, of 2003.. That congregation was/is known as Meadowlands society (also called Madwaleni).

Pastor Khumalo, then joined John Wycliffe Theological College (situated in the Randburg area, for his theological training in the ways of the Most High and Living True God in 2006. He studied there until February 2014, but his theological degree was conferred later in March of 2017 by the University of Potchefstroom (North West University).

In 2015, he further registered with UNISA (University of South Africa) for a year's certificate in Marriage Officer Course, which he obtained with a distinction. In 2016, the Department of Home Affairs also appointed him a Licensed Marriage Officer.

He is currently looking after two congregations, Madwaleni and Soshanguve. In April 1, 2008, he got married to Zandile J Khumalo and are blessed with a total number of 6 children. This was after his first wife had died in March 17, 2003 after a very sudden and shocking death (Aneamia).

Pastor Khumalo had in 1999 attempted to study towards Law at Wits University, but was advised to do a first year in English literature, so he could then be fully registered the following year, and so he did register his first year in Political Sciences, where he did Politics, International Relations, English grammer and English Literature. Even though circumstances proved to be challenging, because at the time, he was already married to his first wife. He then lost his son who drowned in a public swimming pool, a challenge that seriously affected him to a point that he had to go back to the bank for his work again. However, he never gave up, but pressed on in that year regardless of the then financial constraints, emotions of loosing a child, and trying to find a way to attend classes. It was never easy, but at the end of the year, he sat his exams and managed to pass to proceed to the second year, a chance he never got to this day to proceed, only to realise that God had called him not to Law, nor Politics, but to His Ministry. A call he never looked down upon, and today he is still running that race of God's ministry, to this very day.

Rev. Khumalo has in the past served as a Secretary General of the Swedish Free Church (March 2007- March 2009), and he also served as a Treasurer General (March 2015- March 2019).He is currently serving as the President of the Swedish Free Church (March 2019- March 2022), to date, Pastor HVD Khumalo has served as a board member of the church for ten (10) years.

The past year (2020) going to 2021 has been difficult and challenging year/s for the church of Christ throughout the whole world due to Covid-19, that has seen the church adopting new ways of doing church. God bless his Church.
