Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Desk D97.jpeg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Desk D97.jpg. The copy called Image:Desk D97.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

Hi, Vvmodel. I too would like to welcome you to WP:Ships. I noticed your question on Maralia's talk page, and thought I might be able to help answer your question. From my interpretation of the British copyright laws, as long as the images you took were not used for your work (i.e., actually published by your employer), you retain ownership of the photos, and are free to upload them here as you like, whether that be releasing them to the public domain, or licensing them under the GDFL, or the Creative Commons licenses. If you do want to license the images, you'll want to read the details of both licenses to make sure you choose what's right for you. If the images you've taken have been published by your employer, (at least this is my understanding of the copyright laws), they then own the images. In this case, since the ships you've photographed are still in existence, anyone could take pictures of them, so that would fail Fair use. I hope that was helpful, and not too confusing. Thanks. No problem whatever about ownership - I was working totally freelance on this. Images include all interiors of gallery decks etc on the CV (Illustrious) and panoramics of the frigates and destroyers. Also, detail shots of equipment items. I did a photo tour of the well-deck interior of the LPD (Fearless). Photos of SSN (Trenchant) necessarily topsides only, but they do show the experimental camo scheme. That sounds perfectly fine then; there should be no problems with you uploading as many as you want, under whatever license you so choose. The uploading process isn't too difficult, you just point the page to the location of the image on your computer, and use the drop down menu to pick the appropriate license. There's also a text box for you to provide any other information or description of the image. You can take a look at Image:Camp Victory Baghdad DCN.JPG, an image I uploaded, for an example. HMS Sheffield[edit]

Thanks for your input, if you look at the material now available, there is no difference between the British and Argentine versions of the events. Consensus is currently to merge the two. I don't know where the differences arose but the two accounts have never been that far apart. It is on my list of things to do but I haven't got round to changing it yet. Notability of Ned Doheny[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ned Doheny requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
