Please advise

W.carter: I appreciated your earlier suggestions on editing. May I now ask your advice on finding editors interested in the same subjects I am interested in?

I have proposed revisions of the instrumentalism article on talk pages of inductive reasoning, John Dewey, and Karl Popper--with no response after several weeks. Are there further sites or actions I could take to find people with my interests? Many Thanks.TBR-qed (talk) 15:16, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello TBR-qed and welcome back. Sometimes certain subject are not as frequently visited by editors involved as one might like to, but there are a couple of things you could do.
As for other sites, that is unfortunately beyond my knowledge. Hope this will help you in some way. Best, w.carter-Talk 16:02, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
W.carter: Extremely helpful. Thank you.TBR-qed (talk) 14:57, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks

Dear W. Carter,
I am very very grateful, for the barnstar, it is honors for me.
Best wishes and regards.

Good Graces

Okay, so I want to put the past behind us. What can I do to get into your good graces? I need to know. I don't want to feel as if you're off limits.Amanda Smalls 18:20, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

BTW:My name is different because I'm changing it from Andrew to Amanda.Amanda Freak 18:24, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Amanda. You just keep on doing what you have been doing since you got out of the can, that seems like a good place to start. I like that you are trying out writing articles, that's a good thing. And also that you respect my way of being, which is I don't like to be nagged at. If I say no, then it is no. I edit the WP to wind down when I get home from work as a hobby and I want to be able to choose what I do here. You can read about us Wiki-sloths here. I also like people who contribute as part of the team, where we all have our separate roles and those roles should be respected. And take it easy on the barnstars and things, they should not be overused. With me a simple 'thanks' is always better.
— And while I'm still a bit pissed of that you wasted so much of my time with nonsense, I applaud your guts to come out like this and stand by who you are. Such things are never easy. I wish you every luck with changing your name legally. If anyone ever give you grief about that, they'll have me to deal with, and you know I'm not always easy. And thanks for dialing down the signature, I really needed shades for the last one. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:58, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Understood. Thank you for your kind words about my coming out. I appreciate it.Amanda Freak 19:04, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

How kind of you Msrasnw. Thanks for providing the foundation for it. And as for "terse stubs", is there any other way to write them? :) I know I have a host of those behind me as well, I'm not exactly Oscar Wilde. :) Best, w.carter-Talk 17:41, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

stumped again

Hello W. My immediate problem is to find WP help desk or teahouse so I can ask a question. What title do I search?

My next problem is to know which of these 2 sites is most appropriate to help me format references. I want to place 2 references side-by-side with different characteristics: the first an author whose book I will refer to repeatedly, but two separate page references here; the second an author with an article in an edited collection, to which I will not refer again. I am unable to attach the formatting I got and where I got stopped. Is this a tech support question?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.TBR-qed (talk) 21:58, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello TBR-qed. The right place to ask such questions would be the Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions. Normally I would be able to help you here, but unfortunately things has occurred at work and I have to be mostly absent from the Wikipedia during the next few days (see message at the top of the page). If you still have trouble when I get back to editing as usual and the message is removed, I will be glad to help you. Best, w.carter-Talk 08:51, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Amanda Smalls at AN/I

Just in case you didn't see: [1]

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:01, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Anna, this was all done while I was asleep. Can't say I'm that surprised, too many things in the timeline of this user was just a bit too "convenient", I was just waiting for this to occur. That said, I think the user has many more accounts floating around. All the best, w.carter-Talk 08:20, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
To Anna, I just read your words at your page (tnx!), but I do not want to prolong that thread needlessly. I was actually becoming a bit worried about you. You can always throw "non-profit-return" my way if you like. I'm not a bean counter, I deal in percent. In my day job I expect a 200% return on my work, but the WP is my "hideaway-hobby" and as such I am very lucky if I get a 10% return on my work here. (How else do you think I managed five months of MF & Co ^^) I do it instead of playing Tetris, knitting, photography, etc. and I can never get hold of a decent Mahjong game here on the Island, all of these are very low-yield hobbies.^^ I see it like this: Throw a wide net and catch all the newbies. The gems (small, easy to handle, nice) you catch may be fewer in number than the worthless cabezons (big, spiked, slimy) you get, but they are eventually worth a lot more than the useless fish, and make the fishing profitable nevertheless. All right, that's enough philosophy for today. Bon chance, w.carter-Talk 21:30, 26 October 2014 (UTC) (aka Lucy van Pelt)
Thank you. I totally agree about the "gems". I've been gambling on wayward users a long time. A rough guess would be 19 failures to 1 success, but the success usually makes it all worthwhile. Each case costs me maybe 30 min. to 1.5 hours -- maybe more. That magic twentieth stays and contributes long term and easily gives back 19 hours of mainspace work. I am well in the black from one of my earlier attempts: investment and return (the edit counter seems to be on the fritz). You probably saw that because I pointed her out at my RfA. So, it really isn't a faith-in-humanity approach, but more a cost-benefit-calculated-risk-roll-the-dice-know-the-risk-baby-needs-a-new-pair-of-shoes-this-one-is-going-to-pay-off-I-know-it-yay-jackpot! approach. Pure science. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:34, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

silly

i see your message in user talk:PrimeHunter#silly riddle.whom do you mean to silly to? is it me?Jojolpa (talk) 07:02, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jojolpa and thanks for dropping by at my talk page. There is a time and place for everything. I thought the riddle was silly to appear at such a place as the Teahouse, where things about editing the Wikipedia should be discussed. Riddles and such, if an answer have to obtained, should be directed to the Reference desk. And I'm definitely not calling the one who wrote it, can't remember (was is you?), silly since I myself have been known to blurt out many silly things in more relaxed venues after work. In such places I'm more like Billy Connolly. :) But a Teahouse is a place where utter civility should rule, so that is why I called the riddle silly. Best, w.carter-Talk 09:56, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

You left something on my talk back page and there is no edit option attached to it

Hey carter w.carter, you left something on my talk back page and there is no edit option attached to it. How can I then edit it? If you are unsure what I mean it ... I just went back to my talk back page and it is gone. So forget all about, later, aurum Aurumdog (talk) 19:31, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

@Aurumdog:No, that's right. I simply introduced you to another part of The Code. A simple way of just thanking someone for something. On each page you can see the tab "View history" (top righthand corner). If you click on that you will see a list of all the posts made on that page. If you just want to thank someone for something s(he) has written, but not write on the page, you just click on the "thank" and then "Yes" to the right of that post in the list. That is what I did for your post on your talk page. You can do the same for this post I have made here to see how it works. That is why it is so important to write something in the "edit summery" below the Edit area, so that others may know which post is what. w.carter-Talk 19:49, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey cart w.carter, sure why not maybe I can even thank myself while I'm at it - aurum Aurumdog (talk) 20:17, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

@Aurumdog: That worked just fine. I got your thanks and all. You are getting the hang of it! Nice. :) Now I'm gonna sign off for a while and get some food, but there are plenty of others that you can ask if you get stuck. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 20:24, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

The wall

Hello W.carter! I hope all is well with you. I just thought I'd let you know, I'm thinking of spending my spare time this weekend trying to ameliorate the article about the fantastic City wall of Visby. The article could need a boost, I think. I'd just thought I'd let you know/warn you in case you'd like to contribute/will get a lot of pestering questions from me... :) I've stocked up on books from the library, but I'm sure there are things (language things, not least) that I will misunderstand or misinterpret, and that you have a better understanding of. Let me know if you're OK with me coming running with questions a bit later! :) Have a nice Friday evening, Yakikaki (talk) 15:39, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yakikaki! Good choice to improve that part, I have been thinking about doing it for some time now, but never gotten around to it. I am currently very busy with my work and not doing any serious editing at the time, but since I am working on the computer I get the notifications and you are of course welcome with questions whenever you want. :) I might add things later if I find something since I know the Wall pretty well. See you, w.carter-Talk 15:48, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
OK, thanks a lot! I'm sure there will be plenty to add. Good luck at work, and don't get overworked! Ciao, Yakikaki (talk) 15:50, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
@Yakikaki:In this case the article in the Swedish WP if quite good to have as a guide since it lists all the different parts of the wall correctly. If you thought the dog show was crazy... take a look at what is going on here this weekend: Gotland Grand National. Visby Hospital is on high alert as usual. People are just crazy! Even if the SweWiki could use some photos from it, I'm steering clear of that part of the island right now. Best w.carter-Talk 16:15, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh, that looks messy! I understand that the hospital must be prepared, someone is bound to fall off :( Yes, the Swedish article seem extremely good and I will try to use it as much as I can :) Best, Yakikaki (talk) 16:23, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

@Yakikaki:So... Just to see what we had, I put together this little list. I nicked the list-format from you (hehe!). It would be fun to have pictures of all the parts of the wall in case you need them or maybe this list can be at the bottom of the article or something later, I don't know. The names are such as I would translate them, but names stated in books may differ, if so use the ones in the books. I'm going to browse through my pics to see if I have some of the missing ones. The Wall is such an everyday thing for us so we hardly notice it any more. I walk in or out of it several times each day, so I don't always think of photographing it. I'm also going to nag and plead with some people I know have great pics of the Wall to get them to donate. The rest will just have to be a nice walk for me some day to fill in. Happy editing! w.carter-Talk 20:28, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

@Yakikaki: Hope I did not scare you with all these lists :), I just wanted to make sure you have all the resources you might need for the improvement of the article. And I must admit that I am a bit excited about this and I will have to restrain myself a bit not to jump in and meddle in it all the time, I really should focus on my work-things now. If you think that I'm a nuisance, just "Shoo!" me away. :) w.carter-Talk 11:46, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Hello! NO! I am very, very happy for this, in fact, it was exactly what I myself had in mind for later! :D It's just that my off-line life caught up with me this weekend, and I didn't have the time, after all, that I wanted :( But I hope during the week I will be able to continue the translation work. I've never not appreciated your input into anything, quite the contrary :) Yakikaki (talk) 16:10, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
@Yakikaki:Pewh! That's good to know. :) It's always a bother when "real life" gets in the way of editing. I'm taking different routes to work each morning now so I can cover most of the Wall. The thing is that sometime during the late winter or in spring, my job will be such that I have to move from the island and I try to take as many pics as I can while I still live here. So the hurry is the pics, not the writing, that can always come later. Looking forward to working with you again. Best, w.carter-Talk 16:25, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry you have to move! Or maybe it is something you are looking forward to? In any case I wish you the best of luck, of course! The process can be quite annoying, but the moving itself can be very fulfilling, in the end. I hope it will be so, for you. By the way, speaking of photos, I just discovered that there seems to be quite a few photos on flickr of the wall with licenses that could be used (I just had a quick glance now, though). I'll concentrate on writing, for now, but later maybe I'll raid flickr... :) Yakikaki (talk) 16:30, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

@Yakikaki: I did some edits. Going to disappear from the computer for a few hours now. Be back later tonight. Signing off, w.carter-Talk 18:13, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for good teamwork! I hope I didn't upset you for putting the list in at once — though perhaps it was overly rash of me. Have a good evening! Best, Yakikaki (talk) 18:59, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
@Yakikaki: Dito! :) No, I was just a bit startled (it takes a lot more to upset me ^^) like when you are not properly dressed and go and answer the door nevertheless, and a whole bunch of people are standing there staring at you. :) I have messed about a bit in the article, the edit summaries says it all I think. When I did the GA:s it was exhausting, but it made me see texts differently and really got me looking for places that can be misunderstood. Revert if you don't agree. Some more pics from different angles of some parts are now here. Weather permitting I will bag the rest of the wall on Wednesday, I have the day off, and can make the 3.4 km walk then. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 23:49, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
P.S. You do off course realize that if we pull this article off, the Drottningholm Palace is next? Muahahaha... w.carter-Talk 00:09, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Contact

Hello, W.Carter. You answered my question about how to contact someone whose user id was known. I am still trying to understand the Wiki communication concept. If you get this message and answer it, then I believe I may have made a giant leap forward. Thank you. N142pb (talk) 12:49, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi N142pb, it worked just fine! :) You are getting the hang of it. Nice. Now if you see how I have written your name here, that is the way you can write someone's name if you want them to get a notification that you want to get hold of them, and sign with the four "squiggles" during the same "Save". If everything is working now you should get a notification from this. Best, w.carter-Talk 13:33, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

The Wall part II

Oh, your edits are great! And I was happy to see the pictures that you took, I took a sneak peak from the office earlier today. Very good work! I was thinking that maybe we should replace the "refs" section with "location" and include the coordinates? The references are anyway the translated article, and it doesn't give references for each individual section. When applicable, we can insert the references in the text straight away, instead. In one of the books I have there is a map of the wall with all the towers and gates named, so by using this I should be able to pinpoint the coordinates. But in that case, it will be after the text is done. What do you think? And yes, Drottningholm would be very nice to do :) (PS. I love that there is a Wikipedia article about evil laughter :D). Yakikaki (talk) 16:07, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Don't Panic :)
Hello Yaki, I'm still at work and will be until much later this evening, so the article is yours for tonight. I just nicked the table directly from the church page, I did not think of fixing the headings or format or anything since I thought it was just for my sandbox. So your idea is excellent. Get rid of the ref column and make a coordinates one instead. We have to put all the refs in the text, the translation-tag is not valid as a ref (besides SweWiki is notorious for its bad refs, so don't use any), the Swe article is just a guide, and not a very complete one either. I want to put in ALL the relevant bits of the wall, that would be most of the ones that are mentioned here. I'll make sure that everything is photographed. You know me... :-/ when I do something I want to do it well. A map would be terrific! I did not get that far yesterday, but I really want one. No idea of how to obtain one that is copyright-free though, so suggestions are very appreciated. The Tjelvar site has a good map to use as reference to get everything in the right order. I'll check in much later when I get home. Happy editing! w.carter-Talk 17:00, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Yaki: Don't Panic! :) I know that this will take time, there's really no hurry. Let's just take it one section at the time and transfer it to the article by and by. This is not the first large article I've worked on. :) Remember I wrote John Bauer live in main space with no sandbox at all. As soon as all the pics are in (in a couple of days) we can start by putting that list in the article. And then add text and refs as we write and work on them. People don't mind if the article is incomplete, just as long as they see that something is happening to it. I have only good experience from working this way and have some curious spectators following the work in progress. Sometimes they lend a hand and correct a typo here and a link there, but nothing more. I will copy your work to my sandbox as well and work on the "extra" bits from Tjelvar if you do the ones from SweWiki. As pics gets ready I will add them to your page as well. Does this sound like a plan to you? All the best, w.carter-Talk 20:07, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Don't worry, I'm not panicked – I just realised your idea was the better one :) I'm a bit rash I guess, first putting it there all of a sudden and then taking it away as suddenly... I realise it must make a bit of a panicky impression, but is an adverse effect of me trying to do everything at once, also IRL. I should really sit down and concentrate and listen to what you say! :D Anyhow, I think your plan sounds excellent! Only, perhaps we should keep it together in one place? It might make it easier, in the long run? Your sandbox or mine doesn't matter to me, in that case. But yes, let's stick to your plan :) Sorry for being such a "virrpanna"! Best, Yakikaki (talk) 20:44, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
LOL!!! XD Sorry, I'm just laughing so hard at the "your place or mine thing"!! I'm totally ok with the "virrpanna"! I have told others that you are one of the editors that keeps my spirits up here at the WP, and I stand by it. I love that I'm not the only slightly irrational here. :) Let's make it your sandbox since you are doing most of the writing. I'll just add pics and bits of the wall as I find them, you write and we both do what ce we can, to start with. See ya'! w.carter-Talk 20:56, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
I also fixed some things in the list so that it can be moved back to main any time now. People don't mind that things are half-done just as soon as we inform of what is going on. I'm working in the exact same manner with another large article in another sandbox. Doing sections and moving them to the article as they get ready. A very lazy and convenient way of working. I got hold of the rest of the pics today and will spend this evening uploading them to Commons. I'll place them in the article later. Meow, w.carter-Talk 16:05, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Hello kitty cat! Oh, now it looks very nice, with the new pics an' all! :) OK, so I will move it back, then? I'll add some bits tonight, too. Yakikaki (talk) 18:20, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Good evening Yaki, feel free to move it back whenever you want. I'm having trouble uploading the last of pics now. Probably a lot of traffic. Slottsmuren is the last of the ones from SweWiki. I'll add the not so famous ones from the Tjelvar later. + lots of other pics I took. It was a nice day, no tourists, I met some animals and even the sun was cooperating for once. :) Glad you think the "little notes" in the list and the slow pace is ok. w.carter-Talk 18:33, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

@Yakikaki: All the major parts now have pictures and sections of their own. I don't think we have to bother with all the saddle towers and the nameless ones that are just called "ground tower" with no specific history as such. And with everything in place, I moved the list to the main again, where you can add text section by section at your leisure. :) I also put some new pics in the gallery, illustrating things in the "History" section. I think they cover pretty much all. Readers can look up the rest in the Commons. I'm not done uploading everything there yet. Btw, good season for taking pics, very few pesky leaves covering everything. And thanks again for the barnstar, so nice of you, I'm very proud to have. :) Good night for now, w.carter-Talk 22:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

hey cart, you can forget about the above post because what you left is gone now - catch ya when I have fig.ed out an entry to edit, flip it, aurum Aurumdog (talk) 07:27, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi aurum, what I left you was just one of those "invisible" thanks I talked about before. When I thank you there is no edit, just the little red box which goes away when you click on it. It is always at the top of the page, you can't move it. I also saw that you have corrected some of your spelling on your page, which is very good. You know, that is often the difference between getting to keep your edit in an article and getting it deleted. This is an encyclopedia, and such things must be very correct and "talk language" doesn't fly then. I mean, I sound like crap when I talk, but I get my act together when I write in articles. You also leave excellent 'edit summaries' when you post (which can't be said for everyone), and you learn fast. I think you are making very good progress here! See ya! w.carter-Talk 10:29, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Unbelievable

So Amanda wasn't who she claimed to be? I don't why I was being so nice to her even after her sockpuppet incident. I knew she was heading down the wrong path when she started commenting on Jimbo's talk page. Wait a minute is she really is a she? Now I'm really confused about who to trust--Chamith (talk) 04:34, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

A good approach is not to care about what gender someone is (or claims to be) when deciding whether to trust them or not. Why would it matter? Do you trust someone just because of the gender they are or claim to be? I certainly don't. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 06:35, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
@Demiurge1000: That's a good advice. Actually I was concerned because I knew she/he, because we worked together and I thought she/he was a good editor. But I felt upset and violated when I read ANI report related to her/him.--Chamith (talk) 08:15, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi ChamithN. Don’t ever feel bad about being nice and treating other people kindly!! That is the very best quality you can possess and also good karma. I always have to suppress my very jaded and cynical side here on the WP, and I need editors like you as guiding examples of good behaviour. Since I have interacted with MFakaA (MirrorFreak aka Amanda) for such a long time on so many accounts, I have long suspected that something was off, but I played along so see if I could somehow help to set this person right. It was obviously a juvenile (not to be confused with "young") person with serious problems, whatever they may be. I honestly don’t care if MFakaA was a green, one-eyed, cue ball with horns, just as long as it behaves and make good edits. I could even have ignored all the accounts (yes, I know that is wrong to say) if all of them had produced good edits. But all they did was make a fuss and produced drama, and that is why I finally had enough.
I concur with Demiurge1000’s comment about gender. The WP is a great place since it is one of very few places where you are judged by your actions alone and not by your genes. (@Yakikaki: this might interest you too.) In Sweden gender equality is taken very seriously, to the point where we have even introduced a gender neutral personal pronoun in our language a couple of years ago. (Something the WP might benefit from instead of the constant “s(he)” or “their”) It is used in contexts, articles, legal documents, etc. where gender is irrelevant. We have han=he, hon=she and now hen=?? . But as human beings we tend to let our “monkey/dinosaur brain” try to categorize other editors into young/old or she/he based on our preconceptions and prejudices, no matter how hard we try not to. Like you ChamithN, if you had not posted your picture I would never have guessed that you are so young. I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around all that knowledge, wisdom and good edits fitting into a body so young-looking. :) And there is also me, by now I'm so used to being mistaken for a man online and IRL that I don’t even bother correcting people anymore (yes, I’m a real "C J", I wish it was more like this C J but the former is more correct, unfortunately. :/ ). Why should it matter? I also have a couple of friends who have made the gender-change operation, and it is really hard for me to refer to them by their new gender, just because I'm so used to the former, but I'm working on it. We are all creatures of habit. All the best, w.carter-Talk 11:21, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Whoa! that was an amazing and wonderful comment W.carter. Well said. I agree with every point you made. You are one of the most inspiring person I've met on Wikipedia. Thank you for your honest opinion and kind words. We need more people like you--Chamith (talk) 11:43, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Praise for your photographs

Hi again! I hope your deadline was met with success, and here's a formal welcome back for you! (If you find the balloons intrusive, just remove them – they will pop sooner or later anyway!). Someone finally came around to starting a review of the church ruins, and as you can see, the picture material was described as "first class". Well, if everyone had you as their paparazzo, it'd all be first class! Good night for now, Yakikaki (talk) 21:04, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Yay! Go Team Yaki-cart! (pictured) , one steering and one following. :) w.carter-Talk 21:12, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
The cart is awesome! Funny, I had exactly this picture in my mind when you wrote team yaki-cart (well, perhaps not exactly, but something very similar)! XD Yakikaki (talk) 20:00, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
The more I look at it, the more impressed I am with your talent. You have an artistic vein! :) Yakikaki (talk) 20:03, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
... a too vivid imagination might be the more proper name for it... ;) w.carter-Talk 20:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Good morning! I just dropped by to tell you I found an interesting site, which perhaps we could include among the external links? It's done by a Russian enthusiast who is very frank with the fact that he's not an academic but that this is a hobby, but it seems to me very seriously done and with loads of pictures. There's also a map with all the towers and so. Perhaps it could be fitting for the external links section, as a non-academic "want-to-know-more?" resource? Here's the link. I also wanted to take the opportunity to stress how much I appreciate what you do, really. I know I do not always respond to what you write and sometimes I go ahead and am too rash, but I hope you can live with me being such a "virrpanna"; your edits are always appreciated. Have a good weekend - you deserve it! :) Yakikaki (talk) 09:27, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Good Morning Yaki. I totally agree that the site should be in the External links section. It is always good to have something written by enthusiasts since they may explain things better than the too scholary (is that a word?) experts. As I have said before, I love the "virrpanna" thing. :) (To any non-Swedes: that means "scatterbrain"). And as for the rest, we are two colleagues working side by side on a project, we don't need to pat each others backs or comment on things all the time! When it is done we can sit down and relax with a virtual glass of wine and some baklavas. For now it is better to focus our time and energy on the article. Oh, and I tried so hard to find what the correct word for "sadeltorn" was in English, but there just isn't one, that is why I was so happy to find the report from the Raä where they are called "small towers riding on the wall", which seems to be the correct name for such structures. If you found something else in the book by Waldemar Falck, ignore it, I know him very well and he and the rest of the crew at the museum don't know s**t about English. Btw, I love the heading!!! That is exactly what I think about every time I write "The Wall". :) Catch your edits later, w.carter-Talk 10:01, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
HelloYaki! I messed about some more with the article and I'm a bit confused about what word is best for constructions ("fitted out", "outfitted" or "equipped") some may be for abstract things and some may be for clothes or whatever. I have put a question about it on Philg88's talk page. Hopefully he can sort it out. I'm done for today with the article if you want to work on it. - w.carter-Talk 13:16, 2 November 2014 (UTC) (aka the other virrpanna)
Hey! Nice edits – I was particularly happy about the map, and had been entertaining similar thoughts myself :) Today I have too much to do, but in the week I'll try to keep the pace up. Catch you later, Yakikaki (talk) 16:43, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

@Yakikaki: Just I case you're wondering were I've disappeared to, I'm down with the flu so not much editing going on. Hopefully the worst will be over soon and I'll be back to normal. Take care, w.carter-Talk 13:45, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Because you like boats and ships, I asked some sailor friends to cheer you up now that you need it!
Oh no! Drink lots of tea, take a hot bath if you can, relax and watch some films or read a book. Take it easy and don't worry and you'll be back on your feet in no time. Get well soon! Yakikaki (talk) 19:02, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Answer

Hi W.Carter , thanks for your answer in the Tea house, I want to delete German immigration to Guatemala and the content I want to attach another page I did german Guatemalan, but also I want the red link when a page that has been deleted or not yet created that no longer appears anymore, thanks. (Halias 23) 19:20, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello Halias 23! If you want a page deleted you have to ask an administrator to delete it. The process for doing so is described here: Wikipedia:Deletion process. But in this case, since you have written both articles and are quite familiar with them, I would suggest that you merge the two articles to the one you want to keep and place a redirect #REDIRECT [[]] on the one left after you have moved all the text to the other article. Normally a procedure such as this should first be suggested on the talk pages of the articles, but since both articles are new and you are the only major editor, you can go ahead and make this merger. This way, any links leading to the "empty" page will not appear red but will just redirect automatically to the right page. Or you can go and manually replace the existing links to the redirected page with links to the right one. There is no automatic process for this. It is the same with red links, no automatic process. You have to hunt all of those links down and remove the double brackets to turn the text from red to an ordinary word in black. If the links are in such places were an unlinked word is inappropriate, such as "See also", you simply remove the whole thing. If you have any trouble with understanding the redirect-process, just move the text to the right page and tell me when it's done and I'll help you with the redirect-thing. Best, w.carter-Talk 09:35, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your suggestion W.Carter, make the decision and move the text to the right page, I will try to do it today ,if me could help, thanks. (Halias 23) 11:37, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the tips on how to interact with others, how to know when a new notice and how to sign my discursiones, I will take into account that, thank you and have a nice day (Halias 23) 12:01, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks again

After I finish reading carefully and learned to correctly reference, thanks for your help, only with the language cost me a few words because my main language is Spanish, but I know English , I'll take into account the recommendations to create good articles wording and references, again thanks. (Halias 23) 13:44, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Another thing,I try to move the page German immigration to Guatemala to German Guatemalan we agreed but failed, could you help me?
@Halias 23: Of course I can help you. But in order to move all the text from German immigration to Guatemala to German Guatemalan I have to first remove all the old text on German Guatemalan. Is it ok if I do that, is all the relevant text now at the German immigration to Guatemala or is there anything left at German Guatemalan that you want to save? I have to know before I do the move. w.carter-Talk 20:12, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: What I want to save three sections in the page German Guatemalan (Demography, German Festivals in Guatemala and German Industries in Guatemala) in there the whole process would be good, happy day (Halias 23) 14:34, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
@Halias 23:  Done All the text is now in the German Guatemalan along with the three section mentioned above. They may be in the wrong place in the article now, so perhaps you have to move them. A redirect is placed at the other article. Click on that link and you will see. I also saved the intro from the first article. You can always remove it if you want to. I also did some corrections on the small article Belgian Guatemalan to give you an idea of what you have to work on. Best, w.carter-Talk 21:18, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: Thanks for your help, now in the article already I started by a little order it, I will continue to keep correcting it later, I have other urgent commitments, Nice day :D (Halias 23) 15:11, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

@Halias 23: Hello! I have no idea why you removed the "collapsible" on my talk page, but please do not do so. You should not remove any other users edits on their talk page unless they ask you to or if it is to remove pure vandalism. Most of us place these collapse-things on messages left by Bots, since these messages take up too much space on the talk page. If you want to see what is in the scrolled up section, just click on "show". Best, w.carter-Talk 09:44, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

@W.carter: You know something, maybe it was a mistake to get into Wikipedia in English, first because I'm from Spain and it is not my main language, but I've seen that in all Wikipedias in all languages have very little importance to Hispanic countries while others such as the USA, Germany or Japan have all their full articles. (Halias 23) 10:55, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
@Halias 23:Hi again! I don't think it was such a big mistake, you obviously have a lot to contribute with and as you say, there really is a need for articles on subjects related to Hispanic countries here, but you might have started off a bit too strong. I think you should stick around. You could team up with someone who speaks Spanish but is more fluent in English than you are now. In time you will learn. My English was horrible when I first started here, but by working on minor things, and most important, interacting and "talking" with other users I have gradually improved my English significantly. I had an English-speaking mentor who corrected my articles, and I read his corrections and learned. And now I can write articles on my own. You could ask at the Teahouse if someone wants to team up with you. You could also try writing articles for the Spanish Wikipedia just to learn how to edit properly, make correct references and so on. It might be easier to get all that in your native language. w.carter-Talk 17:15, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
@Halias 23: You can also ask one of the editors on this list if they want to cooperate with you:Wikipedia:Translators available#Spanish-to-English. Check out their user pages and see if you find someone that might be interested. w.carter-Talk 17:22, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: Hello W.carter. I'm aware that I need to learn English, thanks for the suggestion to team up with someone who also speaks Spanish, I'll follow. Now with wikipedia in Spanish, will not be brought more to edit that. I was only like 3 days on wikipedia in Spanish and i was not edited, i just watched pages in Wikipedia in Spanish, really is not an encyclopedia, it is a free facility to vandalize, and the worst is that when someone comes to vandalize, no librarian responsible for the vandalism wars that occur in Wikipedia in Spanish . have a nice day (Halias 23) 12:08, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
@Halias 23: That sounds great! :) I can really understand why you want to be here if the Spanish Wikipedia is as bad as you say. I had the same problem with the Swedish one, that is why I came here. Same reason as you. When I get the time I will make some corrections to the "Wikipedia-stuff" in some of your articles. It is much easier to learn how to do it correctly that way. I hope that you are aware of that you can see alterations to a page by first clicking on the "View history" and then on the "prev" on the left side of the page. If you want to thank someone for an edit, you click on the "thank" and then on the "yes" to the right of the edit. Glad you decided to stay, I think you will learn fast. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:23, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

@Halias 23: Oh, and also: I saw that you had made a comment on Philg88's talk page. I'm glad you removed it since he was not being rude to you at all. The fact is that he was actually talking to you and not to me, only he did it "Wikipedia-style". The WP is a very transparant community and talk criss-cross on talk pages in ways that most are not used to before. He linked your name so that you could read his answer at the same time that I did. This is a very time-saving way of communicating we use here. The way I have now linked his name here ensures that he will also be aware of this conversation. The reason I asked that editor for advice is because he is a very good English writer and also an administrator who knows how to solve things here on the WP. I think he will be just as pleased as I am that you will now team up with someone who can help you with the language. We really need the articles you (two) can produce. :) Have a really pleasant evening, w.carter-Talk 18:38, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

@Jim Cartar: What on earth for? If you check the language boxes/info on the relevant user pages it will all become clear ... :)  Philg88 talk 09:31, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
@Jim Cartar: Well, I do check the occasional word on Google translator in regards to any language I use, just to make sure I got it right. I don't plan on continuing with Spanish here, I was simply being friendly and welcoming to a new Spanish-speaking user who I think will be a good contributor to the WP. And as to my language skills, I speak and understand French almost fluently but my writing is just crap which makes that language a "1" here on the WP. I also speak Spanish a lot better than I write. And as for some other languages, I also speak a bit of Norwegian, Danish and Japanese but I could not write in those languages if my life depended on it! :) w.carter-Talk 09:44, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Hmm. Actually, I didn't noticed those Language boxes. You guys have so many skills. Although I can speak and write German-3, Welsh-3 (I know, it's a quite unusual language), Bengali-5, Hindi-5, Sindhi-4 and Urdu-3 but I haven't added those language boxes as I don't want people coming to me and asking for translation ;) Jim Carter 10:46, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
