Welcome to Wikipedia, WDM10! Thank you for your contributions. I am HiLo48 and I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type {{help me}} at the bottom of this page. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that will automatically produce your username and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! HiLo48 (talk) 04:42, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your edit at Sydney Showground Stadium, not because it's necessarily wrong, but because it's probably the wrong place to start. You have made an interesting observation. The club DOES appear to use all capitals in the GIANTS part of its name. I suggest you take your observations to the Talk page of the club's Wikipedia article. That's Talk:Greater Western Sydney Giants. Note that it's important to gain consensus on the Talk page before you actually change the article. I will be interested to read what other editors think. Good luck. HiLo48 (talk) 10:07, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 7[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2020 NRL season results, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Panthers Stadium (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:47, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Greece national rugby league team results, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. AfC reviews[edit]

Reviewers of drafts submitted to AfC can accept, decline or reject a draft. Decline means they believe the topic may be suitable, but the draft has correctable flaws, one or more of which are usually provided. The draft's editor can revise the draft and resubmit. Most often, a different reviewer will next examine the draft, and may have different objections. A rejection means the reviewer's opinion is that the topic is not worthy. Editors can by-pass AfC, but a flawed article could then be flipped back to draft or submitted to Articles for deletion. David notMD (talk) 09:08, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:List of National Soccer League Clubs[edit]

I declined the Draft:List of National Soccer League Clubs but at the same time I merged the main table you created in to the National Soccer League article. I think there may be the potential to extract the sections on clubs from the main article and create a stand alone daughter article if you were to look at creating tables for the period between 1957 and 1977, where a number of early iterations of NSL with the National Ampol cup, and the Australia cup taking place reflecting the NSL article. Have you seen Wikipedia pages like this -- for other countries or sports, perhaps? I've joined Wikiproject Australia recently and I'm not sure what kind of coverage is needed for such a draft to be approved. Just checking if you have any examples. --Gryllida (talk) 05:21, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gryllida: I based that article of Australia vs New Zealand in rugby league which is of a similar type. Likewise, in rugby union there’s an article called History of rugby union matches between Australia and England. Is there a specific idea that you’re thinking of? WDM10 (talk) 05:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, this looks like it. Gryllida (talk) 09:04, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at it again (very new to these drafts things, still getting started...) It looks like the `title` fields of the sources can be added (different from HTML title of original) to include the game dates or participants or some other unique information, so that they do not seem the same. --Gryllida (talk) 09:14, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article List of Macarthur FC players has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a list with no items; Macarthur have yet to play a competitive game.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Happy to discuss further if you'd like. I feel like this is even more of a concern now that the logistics of next season are up in the air - but regardless, I can't see the use of the page when there are no relevant entries yet.

Macosal (talk) 13:43, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Macosal: I'm ok with it being deleted. When I created it, I didn't realise the players had to have played a match for the club but now I know how it works you can go ahead and get rid of it until they do play a match. WDM10 (talk) 19:15, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Editing news 2020 #3[edit]

On 16 March 2020, the 50 millionth edit was made using the visual editor on desktop.

Seven years ago this week, the Editing team made the visual editor available by default to all logged-in editors using the desktop site at the English Wikipedia. Here's what happened since its introduction:

  • The 50 millionth edit using the visual editor on desktop was made this year. More than 10 million edits have been made here at the English Wikipedia.
  • More than 2 million new articles have been created in the visual editor. More than 600,000 of these new articles were created during 2019.
  • Almost 5 million edits on the mobile site have been made with the visual editor. Most of these edits have been made since the Editing team started improving the mobile visual editor in 2018.
  • The proportion of all edits made using the visual editor has been increasing every year.
  • Editors have made more than 7 million edits in the 2017 wikitext editor, including starting 600,000 new articles in it. The 2017 wikitext editor is VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode. You can enable it in your preferences.
  • On 17 November 2019, the first edit from outer space was made in the mobile visual editor.
  • In 2019, 35% of the edits by newcomers, and half of their first edits, were made using the visual editor. This percentage has been increasing every year since the tool became available.

2021 RLWC group pages[edit]

What do you see as the purpose of separate pages for the four groups? I can't see any information going into these pages that isn't going to be in the main article under the group sub-section. In which case, what is the point of having four separate sub-pages? Nthep (talk) 12:27, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Nthep: Right now, the pages look pretty similar however when the tournament comes around, these pages will contain team lists and details of the game. See the 2017 Rugby League World Cup group pages for what I'm basing this off. WDM10 (talk) 20:04, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If it's only team lists and like the 2017 pages they are going to be collapsed I don't see why that couldn't all go in the main article as that would be the only non-duplicated information as it stands. Nthep (talk) 21:50, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: But the main page usually just consists of the scores in the tables, unless we’re willing to scrap those and just have the match boxes there. However we should probably do that across all tournaments then to be consistent. WDM10 (talk) 22:16, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've already linked the match boxes for Group A from the gp A article to the main and was intending to do the others affer we'd conclude this discussion. I think you've swung it to keeping the group articles separate. If after the tournament these little in them merging can be considered then. Nthep (talk) 09:30, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: That sounds good to me. WDM10 (talk) 09:40, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the discussion. As I said to someone else yesterday the problem with a lot of rugby league articles is that they are little more than a collection of stats about the player or competition with little or mo narrative. If we can work on the 2021 WC articles to try and make sure that isn't the case here would be a good outcome. Nthep (talk) 09:59, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: That is very true. We could base our group articles off the RWC articles as they have the overview prose at the beginnings of their pool pages. WDM10 (talk) 10:16, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm MDanielsBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:List of National Soccer League Clubs, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Please warn vandals[edit]

Hi.

Thanks for recently undoing vandalism on List of Eurovision Song Contest winners. In the future, when you undo vandalism, could you please use the appropriate template to warn the user (IP or registered) to stop their behaviour?

There are many different warning templates available to use. Here are some popular ones. Please see their documentation pages for instructions.

Each time we use these warnings they should be placed under the title "==April 2024==" (updated to the current month and year), on the user's talk page. If previous warnings have been given under that title, add the next level warning beneath the others, within that section. Clearly, individual cases must be dealt with as seems fit. If the user has not been actively vandalizing for a few weeks or months, start a new section.

The value of warning is three fold.

  • Firstly: it may be heeded.

  • Lastly: administrators require that warnings have been given before they can or will act against persistent vandals.

If a vandal is on a spree or has reached a level 4 vandalism warning and is currently active, waste no time in reporting them to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.

Reply tool[edit]

The number of comments posted with the Reply Tool from March through June 2020. People used the Reply Tool to post over 7,400 comments with the tool.

The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.

  • More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
  • Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
  • Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[1]

The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).

The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.

New requirements for user signatures[edit]

  • The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
  • Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.

Next: New discussion tool[edit]

Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.

Hello, WDM10. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of Rugby League World Cup winners".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

St. George Illawarra/St. George[edit]

I don't know why you changed the edits on St. George Illawarra. The club even though they are called that are still referred to in the media as St. George and are still given the nicknames Saints and Red V. In very many ways the club is more St. George than anything. Illawarra contributes very little to the joint venture. I doubt people who would be new to the article would be confused by St. George Illawarra and St. George as they are both the same thing. Sully198787 (talk) 17:30, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your points about branding however as the St. George Dragons are the name of the old club and part owners of the current club, there is still a difference between what is “St. George” and what is “St. George Illawarra” and this difference, even if it doesn’t seem confusing for newcomers, should be stated. Reply tool[edit]

Graph of Reply tool and full-page wikitext edit completion rates
Completion rates for comments made with the Reply tool and full-page wikitext editing. Details and limitations are in this report.

The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.

  • The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
  • It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.

Research notes:

  • As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
  • There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedia on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.[2]
  • The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month.[3] Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
  • A large A/B test will start soon.[4] This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Wikipedia) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences.

New discussion tool[edit]

Screenshot of version 1.0 of the New Discussion Tool prototype.

The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself.[5] You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.

Next: Notifications[edit]

During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

Junior contributors comment completion rate across all participating Wikipedias
When newcomers had the Reply tool and tried to post on a talk page, they were more successful at posting a comment. (Source)

Earlier this year, the Editing team ran a large study of the Reply Tool. The main goal was to find out whether the Reply Tool helped newer editors communicate on wiki. The second goal was to see whether the comments that newer editors made using the tool needed to be reverted more frequently than comments newer editors made with the existing wikitext page editor.

The key results were:

  • Newer editors who had automatic ("default on") access to the Reply tool were more likely to post a comment on a talk page.
  • The comments that newer editors made with the Reply Tool were also less likely to be reverted than the comments that newer editors made with page editing.

These results give the Editing team confidence that the tool is helpful.

Looking ahead

The team is planning to make the Reply tool available to everyone as an opt-out preference in the coming months. This has already happened at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.

The next step is to resolve a technical challenge. Then, they will deploy the Reply tool first to the Wikipedias that participated in the study. After that, they will deploy it, in stages, to the other Wikipedias and all WMF-hosted wikis.

You can turn on "Discussion Tools" in Beta Features now. After you get the Reply tool, you can change your preferences at any time in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

Notice

The article 2026 Men's Rugby League World Cup qualification has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

All information here now redundant due to the tournament rescheduling

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
