Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, WWFCities. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 11:56, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MrOllie,
This is my first time creating a page on Wikipedia so I'm sorry for omitting any pertinent information - it was not intended to mislead. I am a WWF employee, I work as the communications manager in the WWF Cities project and was requested to create our wikipedia page to add the We Love Cities campaign to the notable campaigns section of the WWF page. We Love Cities has a similar reach to the Earth Hour campaign that is highlighted there. I am not receiving specific compensation for this but this action is seen as a fraction of the tasks I undertake in my job which I receive a salary for. Does this impact whether I can or cannot create this page? Thanks!
Best. WWFCities (talk) 12:28, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the links in the message above, your questions are answered therein. MrOllie (talk) 12:38, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks and apologies for asking a question that was answered in the links. I have added a COI notification in the Talk section of We Love Cities and I have submitted the page for review. Hope you have a great day! WWFCities (talk) 12:47, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Please put a paid editing disclosure on your user page.
Asparagusus (interaction) 16:50, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there - I am not being paid to to edit, I am creating this page because our work is missing from our charity's page - I believe I fall under this wikipedia rule " If you are editing an article on Wikipedia on behalf of your employer, for example, you must disclose your employer's details." I have disclosed that I work for WWF already as a COI on the talk page.
But as I understand that link that you sent I only say it is paid editing if I have been paid to edit or employed through a subsidary to edit specifically as a task within a contract. I have not been contracted specifically to edit wikipedia pages or work on wikipedia - nor generally, the head of our cities team noticed that the We Love Cities campaign was missing from WWF's page and requested that I come in to add it. This is not on my job description. Basically I don't want to say I'm a paid consultant who has been paid to create a wikipedia page because this isn't true. I'm a WWF employee who noticed missing information and my boss asked me to rectify the gap.
I wonder if I'm splitting hairs here? WWFCities (talk) 17:07, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know how to delete my reply - sorry writing while tired. Your link made the situation clear "Users who are compensated for any publicity efforts related to the subject of their Wikipedia contributions are deemed to be paid editors, regardless of whether they were compensated specifically to edit Wikipedia." Sorry WWFCities (talk) 17:09, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

October 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

A tag has been placed on Draft:WWF We Love Cities, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
