Trickshot info[edit]

Moved from User talk:Izno

Hi how are you? I currently play on the WPA-APD tour. I am ranked #20 in the world. We just completed the 2018 WPA world Championship in Houston on Feb 8th- 10th. Many of us players were looking at the Wikipedia' site. We were not very impressed. Many of the notable players are not even trick shot artist or have ever competed in a sanctioned event. Some are Pro Players but play in a different division such as 8 ball or 9 ball.

Also the format has changed on how tournaments are played. Of the list that is on this Wiki site 4 of those players even compete. I would like to provide all the new information. I as m not looking for self recognition. There are players way before me. We just would like to see updated info. It's our belief that the pioneers need to be up on the list . For instance Mike Massy is a LEGEND and innovator of the sport. Hes retired. If you dont want me writing it and submitting for approval. I would suggest Tim Chin who has a Doctrate from MIT. Please help me update this material. I will only use facts from the WPA and UTS.

Thank you Cary Wallace WalkinAlmanac 01:14, 21 February 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by WalkinAlmanac (talkcontribs)

@Lee Vilenski and SMcCandlish: Is this person help-able? --Izno (talk) 03:45, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WalkinAlmanac - Certainly. Let me welcome you to wikipedia, (even though your account has been here since 2016). I'll prefix this comment by saying the coverage of cue sports on wikipedia is in general pretty poor (something I'm trying to fix). I assume you are referring to the article on Trick shot, which clearly needs clean-up, and I don't mind doing some work on this, however my knowledge of trick shot/artistic pool knowledge is pretty poor (I mostly work with 9-Ball pool articles, such as recently with Euro Tour tournaments).
In terms of the main article on Trick Shots, I will (hopefully today) put some time aside to do some cleanup. The notable players section is really subjective, and irrelevent, so it's likely it will be removed completely. I'd suggest seperate articles for the professional players, especially for the world championships. I doubt I'll get much time to look at these (at least for a bit), but feel free to draft up such articles using Articles for creation. I moderate from time to time over there, and if you submit a piece there, and tag it for Conflict of interest, I'll review it and promote it if it's suitible.
Please let me know if I can help further. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:46, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@WalkinAlmanac: Yes, do feel to get involved. I would suggest adding yourself to participants list at WP:WikiProject Cue sports. It also lists some resources like the cue sports editing style guideline, and whatnot, but mostly just dive in. The core content policies are the main thing - we have to cite sources. For pool stuff about competition, things like Billiards Digest, Pool & Billiard Magazine, and AZBilliards.com are good sources (lots of websites are not, but AZBilliards has a professional writing staff and seems to be the most accurate sports-news source for pool). You likely should not try to edit and article on yourself (WP:COI covers that). I agree that our coverage of trick shots and the more codified artistic pool competitions is weak; I'm not sure anyone's tried hard to update much of it since something like 2010, and it was weak even then. Topics like this are heavily dependent on volunteer editors who care and who can and will find the appropriate sources. PS: We do already have an article on Mike Massey, but it probably also needs work. PPS: We we just talking yesterday, I think, about a dire need for photos (uploaded under an appropriate license to WikiMedia Commons so we can use them here) of modern players. Someone who is actually at events (and I know from competition myself, back in the day, that there's lots of time between matches sometimes) would be in ideal position to take them and upload them. Not everything we do here is about writing sentences. :-)  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:42, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved this discussion to your own talk page, for easier reference.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:44, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
