Thank You

For changing Murdoch Mysteries to show the 200th episode the right way. I appreciate it. Mandypandy10 (talk) 01:27, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

New year, new me, and a goodbye for now.

Walter, I know we've disagreed on numerous things throughout my time on Wikipedia, but I genuinely believe our conflicts usually ended with making Wikipedia a better place. I want to thank you for being so helpful and engaging during my time here, and your commitment to protecting your articles without really pulling a WP:OWN approach is commendable (although I wouldn't be surprised if I accused you of that at some point, sorry).

With all my GANs and GA reviews now completed, however, I've decided I need to step away from Wikipedia, with all the reasons listed there. This time it'll be for actual good (at least for a long time, and I may not ever return as a regular but we'll see), I attempted that once. I've felt that I've been a bit more of an annoyance to other editors, and sooner or later, I'm probably going to wear out my welcome if I continue anyway, as I'm meeting more and more who I come into regular conflict with. Thanks for being a great editor, Walter. See you around, maybe. dannymusiceditor oops 16:28, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

@DannyMusicEditor: I can't recall any recent disagreements, and do appreciate your effort. Hope to see you back whether it's after a rest or with a new account. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:10, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

agreement with you re edit rules

Hi. I saw your points on your user page regarding miscarriage of 3RR. I totally, totaly agree with you. is there anything we can do to address this issue? or any way that I can help? I think we should try to do so. I recently had some interactions here which alerted me to this issue. you can still view these interactions; they are still visible at WP:ANI, and also at my talk page.

Please let me know. please ping me when you reply. thanks!!!!! --Sm8900 (talk) 02:47, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

It's entirely at the discretion of admin. They're usually very good at assessing, but since they're human, they will err, and at least they when they do, it's in favour of editors. If it's always the same admin who makes harsh, unreasonable, and inordinate blocks, there is an admin review process. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:51, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
okay. thanks for your reply on that. --Sm8900 (talk) 18:16, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Re:January 2020

Greetings. I would like to apologise for the edits I made on Lukas Podolski, as I was mislead by information circulating around the internet. I will make sure to look for reliable sources in the future. Vasil3fonov (talk) 11:07, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of The Ballad of Little Joe declined

I've declined your proposed deletion of The Ballad of Little Joe because there's a valid alternative to deletion, in this case redirection to List of VeggieTales videos. I agree with you that this video is non-notable (I've watched it before, there's nothing special about this), but redirection would be better than deletion in this case. Meters claims my warning was bogus

Meters (talk · contribs) claimed that my edit warring warning was completely bogus. At the time I placed it (2020-01-31T23:32:33‎) this was the state:

  1. 2020-01-31T22:49:15‎
  2. 2020-01-31T23:26:58‎
  3. 2020-01-31T23:32:33‎

The editor was apparently preparing to self-revert 2020-01-31T23:33:13‎ and doesn't like discussion when called-out. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:05, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

reFill

Hi, I notice you use reFill. This is a useful tool but sometimes introduces errors, most frequently inserting the unsupported parameter "|deadurl=y" instead of "|url-status=dead", such as here. I would ask you to preview your edits and resolve any issues before submitting. Thanks. --John B123 (talk) 20:19, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Murdoch Season 13

Series Overview section, when I click on season 13, it doesn't go down to the top of season 13, like with past seasons. Also episode 197/11 the reference there is missing something, not sure what, since I haven't looke to see what was change. Could you look at both please? Thanks! MasterCraft Boats

Hi Walter, Can you help me with the revisions that were denied on the MasterCraft Boats page recently? I did not include the entire board in the updates. I included changes to what was listed based on senior leadership updates and team members that are no longer in that position.

Thanks in advance for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nchildress04 (talkcontribs) 23:18, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Walter. I hope I'm not bothering you with another message. I wanted to let you know that I added another source for some of the information we discussed. I didn't remove anything, however. I also posted at WP:RSNB regarding whether a citation needed tag is appropriate when there is a dead link. I invite you to take a look and, if you feel the need, add your comments. You can make your points much better than I can. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 19:04, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Evangelicalism

Hello User:Walter Görlitz, I hope that you're doing well. I noticed your revert on the Evangelicalism article and agree with you. I should note that the same user is doing the same thing across multiple articles, sometimes deleting a large amount of content and merging unrelated traditions (such as Baptists and Pentecostals) into one generic "Evangelicalism" section. I just finished reverting some of it. If you see other edits of a similar nature, let me know and I'll have a look. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 02:39, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Quick question on the date thing.

Thanks for the corrections! The date formatting is due to the way it "auto fills" when I click on the "calendar" icon in the cite window. Should I manually change the formatting in the future? I know you referred to the guideline, but for some reason it turns into a jumble when I look at those. The issue is on my part and my perception. It's as though my brain can't make sense of the information. I know it may sound silly, but that's the only way I can describe it. I appreciate your patience on this.THX1136 (talk) 00:23, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

@THX1136: I believe that {{reflist}} looks for {{use mdy}} or its counterparts, and forces the date format when rendering the page. I do it to keep things consistent. There are tools that can automatically transform the dates if needed, so I though think there is no need to worry. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:25, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, sir.THX1136 (talk) 00:28, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello Walter, greetings from Nashville. This is Charlie Peacock. Was it you that I talked with about my page via email a few years back? If so, it was my intention to follow up on our conversation by providing you with updated and verifiable resources for my page. Then I fell ill for a couple of years and did not have the will to do much of anything. I would like to open up that discussion again. I am not an experienced Wikipedia editor like you, in fact I'm no editor at all! But keeping my page accurate and up-to-date, under Wikipedia guidelines, is important to me. Please advise. Failed SPI filing

I must admit, I was surprised my recent SPI filing was a dud. As soon as I saw the edits, I (probably like you), immediately saw it as a sock and block evasion. Any suggestions for getting action? Is more evidence required? Is it better to file at a different forum in the future? Have you had any success with getting admin action against the problem? --David Tornheim (talk) 17:14, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

@David Tornheim: Is suspect that I know the admin, but I have no cure for the admin response. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:27, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
I'm confused by the start of your sentence. Who is it you know? --David Tornheim (talk) 18:38, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Actually, I just looked at it, and it's not the admin who usually denies the cases outright. All of the ranges should have their block expire at the same time. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:39, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Right. Oh. I see the admin did block the first IP address I listed. I didn't think that was the case because the strike font isn't showing for that editor--I guess a bot takes time to catch up on that. Well, it's a start, but yeah, I agree it would be better to have some consistency and do the same for the other IPs that are likely all the same editor. --David Tornheim (talk) 18:48, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
@David Tornheim: It's a range block. I was suggesting it should be 123.136.0.0/16, which is a lot of addresses, but the admin made it 123.136.96.0/19 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)), which is still a lot of addresses and should address a lot of the problems from this editor. Unfortunately, it catches one editor who was making some constructive edits. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:13, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Ah. I'm not that familiar with the notation of range blocks. I thought the / was part of an IP address, like a subdirectory. I'm more used to math notation of using "..." Ellipsis#In_mathematical_notation or Dash#Ranges_of_values to show a range or sequence. I thought I had seen these other kinds of notation in the past for ranges of IP adderesses--maybe this is a new notation that has evolved...
It's a bit confusing because if you click on Special:Contributions/123.136.96.0/19 is says "IP address" rather than "IP addresses". --David Tornheim (talk) 19:22, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
The title on the page is probably not responsive, but it is a range. I've done networking for at least 20 years, and this way of annotating ranges was in-use when I started getting into it. The /digit notation (called slash notation or CIDR notation) is the size of the range that ends up matching, marked in bits. I understand it, but it's a bit difficult for me to explain. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:30, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Issues (band)

If Youtube is a terrible source, then what information confirms about what the bassist does unclean vocals? There are no links at all. And about the drummer - there attached YouTube link also. Why are you using double standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Migr9 (talkcontribs) 20:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

@Migr9: It's not that YouTube is a terrible source, it's that the video you selected was a terrible source. We need a video that doesn't violate copyrights, and clearly explains the context required. Simply showing something is not always clear.
As for a good source, a write-up that states he regularly does clean vocals would be best. Liner notes that attribute the role to that performer would be fine. The band's own website or about page on Facebook would do as well. Anything that is not unambiguous and not a copyright violation.
If the one about the drummer is similar, we should remove that source as well. No double-standards. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:03, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

dab links

Hi Walter Görlitz, can you please clarify what dab links are? It's not easy finding any information about Wikipedia-specific terms and abbreviations for new editors. Thraex64 (talk) 09:45, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Need your advice

Hi, 123.136.112.218 had been vandalising posts in 2020 Garena Young Lions FC season and 2020 Geylang International FC season.

How can we go about banning him for doing so? Not familiar with this. thanks. Iancash81 (talk) 10:47, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

@Iancash81: The problem is coming from an IP range, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/123.136.112.0/24 , and I have reported the range to admins. Until the range is blocked, monitor activity in the range and revert as block evasion as this range, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/113.210.0.0/16 , is blocked and it appears to be the same editor. WP:BLOCKEVASION is not condoned. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:51, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
thanks, let see what the admins can help. Seems the person is carrying on with his undesirable actions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iancash81 (talkcontribs) 13:26, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
@Iancash81: 123.136.112.0/21 has been blocked for a year, but the anon will likely try to get an address in a valid range and continue. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Question

I need your advice. A couple years ago, I started following Margaret Sanger's page. I have a very dim view of her, but I know that this is my POV so I have been reluctant to push it or really get involved in the discussions. Over the past year or so, other editors have tried to get the article to speak more truthfully about her Eugenics background and there are a couple editors - The Banner and MFNikster - who have blocked every insertion that they considered cast Sanger in a negative light - whether Eugenics or not as essentially the rantings of Right Wing / Christian lunatics. I've always sat back and shrugged as the poor editor was tore apart - knowing he was never going to get anywhere with those two. I've even sent a couple of them messages telling them to just give up - it was hopeless. Now with the current cancel culture, even people within Planned Parenthood are waking up about Sanger's past (https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/jul/5/planned-parenthood-accused-racism-employees-suppor/). Even with this, these two editors are continuing to alibi for her - even saying in a recent post that they are casting her views using a time context of "everyone thought this way back then". I don't know about you, but when we are pulling down statues of past leaders who even spoke neutrally about slavery, this type of whitewashing is pretty laughable.

So my question is this something that neutral editors need to come in a clean up the page? Is this even a thing? I mean it might sound like I am have a mission against Sanger, but I've just had it with these two authors protective tactics on the page and even when slapped in the face with positive evidence of Sanger's views they are willfully ignoring it. Am I crazy? Thanks - Ckruschke (talk) 14:03, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Ckruschke

@Ckruschke: I suspect pinging you is unnecessary, but I'll suggest that you open a discussion on the talk page. If you can gain a consensus to make the change, you've succeeded. If you can't persuade these two editors to see this position, you may need to take it to an RfC. If others back their position and few back yours, it could be that your position needs adjusting. Either way, discussion is the place to start. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:13, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Cool - thanks Walter! Ckruschke (talk) 17:27, 23 July 2020 (UTC)CKruschke

Cliff Richard

Hi Walter. Just a quick fyi... my edit on Cliff Richard had nothing to do with OVERRLINK. It was just one of more than a hundred edits by a sock of MariaJaydHicky that I reverted. As I'm sure you are aware, MJH is one of the more persistent LTAs we have to deal with. They have had dozens of socks identified and blocked over the years and I am pretty sure they don't care. That's because for the most part their edits were left intact. So starting sometime last year, whenever I block one of their socks I now go through their editing history and revert any edits that are current. This is often time consuming, but I think it has had something of a deterrent effect as they seem to have slowed down in their socking since then. Either that or they are getting better at disguising their socks. In any event I have no objection to your restoring their edit if you deem it to have been constructive. Just be aware my reversion was based purely on WP:DENY. I doubt I even looked at more than a handful of their edits before reverting them. -Ad Orientem (talk) 20:02, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

About "Category:Canadian expatriate <!-- women's -->soccer players"

As "Category:Canadian expatriate soccer players" is a non-diffusing subcategory of "Category:Canadian soccer players", there are people who add the latter in articles related to Canadian female soccer players, but that's wrong because the category corresponding to them is "Canadian women's soccer players". So, by adding "<!-- women's -->" inside "Category:Canadian expatriate soccer players" ("Category:Canadian expatriate <!-- women's -->soccer players"), it is indicated to future editors that in this case it is a non-diffusing subcategory of "Category:Canadian women's soccer players" instead of "Category:Canadian soccer players" (which is for male players). That's why.--MonFrontieres (talk) 04:40, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

@MonFrontieres: I understand that it's hidden HTML text, it's just stupid. I'll raise it with a project to see if your approach is or is not worthwhile. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:02, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

The 2038 FIFA World Cup Article

Hello! I just wanted to thank you for the particular edit you did. I may not be as experienced as your 15+ years of Wikipedia experience, but I do know enough to know that there were serious problems with the current state of the article, and certainly more so than that months-old TechnoBladeSPX user. I wasn't sure if I was completely justified in just taking down that entire section, so I kept it in check using the templates. I wasn't so sure either on which WP policy I would need to use to justify removing an entire section. It turns out I didn't really need to use one, since you didn't cite one when you did that edit that removed that entire section. Anyway, is there something more that can be done with this particular article? Judging by the history of user TechnoBladeSPX, it seems this user is too keen on creating new articles for a lot of things and I feel like the user is Dunning-Kruger'ed a bit. Thanks! -boldblazer (talk) 07:35, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

FYI, I am uninvolved, but am 100% behind you on this. Keep up the good work. Lou Sander (talk) 21:46, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@Lou Sander: I assume that this is addressed to me and not the admins. If so, thanks. If not, DOH! Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:32, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Samantha Evans (singer)

Hello Walter, I hope you are, I have just created the article Samantha Evans in question and I want you to please help me edit it, check what I put if there is something wrong, correct me and remove what you have to remove. I need to remove that notice from the article. Thank you very much I hope to have your help. Blessings.GJFBR (talk) 03:50, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

@GJFBR: I took a quick pass through the article. I think one of the main problems was the repeated use of male pronouns for Evans. I think I have it a bit cleaner. You could always ask for assistance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christian music. I'm sure there are several others there who could help. That's not to say that I wouldn't see it eventually, but other editors may have a different spin on things than I do. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:33, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Thank you very much Walter, if I turned to you it is because of your 15 years on Wikipedia, in fact the experience for me is valuable, I will take your advice into account. I appreciate your valuable help. Greetings and blessings.GJFBR (talk) 15:49, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Joth Hunt

Hi Walter, can you review this article Joth Hunt, and help me edit it they placed the notability tag. Help me, what was wrong? I really value your work on wikipedia. Greetings I hope you can contribute. I hope you are well. Thanks a lot. Blessings.GJFBR (talk) 16:33, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

@GJFBR: I'm blocked right now so I can't really engage the way that is required, but I would responde to @Mccapra: who tagged it with {{notability}}, and I would do it on the article's talk page. WP:GNG is the foundation I would look at. It's principle is that a subject is presumed to be notable if there is 1) significant coverage in 2) reliable sources that are 3) independent of the subject. The five sources that I looked at that lend some support are sightmagazine gospelmusic.org thechristianbeat.org godtv.com cross rhythms. Perhaps Mccapra is not aware of Wikipedia:WikiProject Christian music/Sources or that these are reliable. Perhaps it's that that coverage between then is not particularly significant, or perhaps it's that they don't all seem to be independent of the subject. Whatever the reason, I suggest that you continue the discussion on Talk:Joth Hunt. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:30, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello @Walter Görlitz, I am sorry that you are blocked, I hope when the blocking time is lifted you can help me in the article, in fact I learned a lot from you, I hope you continue to contribute more to Wikipedia as you have always. Grettings and take care. Blessings.GJFBR (talk) 17:20, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. I hope I can assist soon as well. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:45, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Murdoch Season 14

Hello;

I am having trouble with references for season 14. It says I'm missing the closing reference tag, but I can't see the problem. Could you help me out please? Thanks! BlackW76 (talk) 05:29, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

@BlackW76: It's usually better to make requests like this on the article's talk page. I think I've fixed it. Let me know if you agree. Walter Görlitz (talk) 08:18, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Yes it's fine. I wanted to get you because you're good at this. Thank you for your help. BlackW76 (talk) 19:31, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Finding Templates for new users

Hello! You beat me to an edit for a talk page just now, and I was wondering, where did you find that template you used? I've been interested in vandalism and un-constructive edits, but I haven't been able to find many templates. If there is some kind of list I could look at, that'd be great. Thanks! SnazzyInfinity (talkcontribs) 00:24, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@SnazzyInfinity: I hope I didn't step on your toes. I did see that you had reverted, so I thought I'd be sure to welcome (even though it wasn't particularly constructive).
I had seen that template a few times, but then about a year ago i thought I would make it my default. It's usually used for registered accounts, but I tend to use it when welcoming all editors. I use Wikipedia:Twinkle, and it has a number of welcome templates baked-in, but the Wikipedia:Welcoming committee has a list of templates as well. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:38, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
@Walter Görlitz: Haha, your fine. I use Twinkle but mainly for reference based-clean up things. Thanks for providing the list, I'll do check it out! SnazzyInfinity (talkcontribs) 17:24, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Question

I noticed that you undid my edit as noticed by this revision and I’m a bit confused by it, would you be able to explain it further to me? Thanks UpnCbs06 (talk) 00:46, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

@UpnCbs06: Sorry. I was initially trying to revert an edit two before yours, but was told I was unable to. I clicked back and reverted to the edit before the one I was trying to edit. When I looked at the history, the edit immediately after the one I was trying to revert did the revert. I looked at your addition, and saw that it added [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CreditsTropes More info on TV Tropes]. I've worked on external links enough to know that this content did not meet the standards, and so left your addition out, rather than self-reverting. With that said, if you can find grounds at either WP:ELYES or WP:ELMAYBE for the link, and that show it adds to "an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article" for whatever reason that I may have missed, feel free to add it back with the section that you thinks supports its inclusion.
