Walter,

Welcome to Wikipedia. Maybe you've figured this out already but you can still use the autosigning function and produce dates in ISO format. First copy the following (see Help:Magic words ).

{{CURRENTYEAR}}-{{CURRENTMONTH}}-{{CURRENTDAY2}} {{CURRENTTIME}}

Then click on my preferences (at the top of the page when you're signed in). On the My prefernces page click on User profile (if you're not already there). In the Signature box paste the above after your name (make sure you've ticked the little Raw signature box underneath). Then click Save at the bottom of the page. Thereafter use ~~~ and you'll get something like this. Jɪmp 2007-10-02 08:54

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 08:37, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Walter, I'm not quite sure how SineBot works. I s'pose it's looking for a link to your user page. If you talk to Slakr, who runs the bot, maybe he'll be able to sort things out. JIMp talk·cont 23:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ISO 8601-compliant date-format in signature[edit]

Would you like to sign your contributions to talk pages with an ISO 8601-compliant date format?

1 ) Login
2 ) Click on "My preferences" at the top of your logged-in page
3 ) If needed, click on "User Profile" near the top of that page
4 ) In the Signature box, if needed, check the small box:
"Treat the above as wiki markup"
5 ) Insert this text in the larger box just above the small box:

Your ID here ([[User_talk:Your_ID_here|talk]]){{SUBST:CURRENTYEAR}}-{{SUBST:CURRENTMONTH}}-{{SUBST:CURRENTDAY2}}{{SUBST:CURRENTTIME}}

6 ) In that box, edit the text in 2 places, inserting your ID
7 ) If you used copy-paste to insert text in the larger box, also insert any spaces which were lost at the end of lines. For example, if your browser had broken the text you inserted into 3 lines, then insert 2 spaces, one at the end of each of the first 2 lines.
8 ) Click on "Save" near the bottom of the page
9 ) Each time you sign an edit, use 3 tildes, ~~~, instead of 4.
