Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Wamprong. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:09, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Conflict of interest for Poh Li San and Lim Wee Kiak

[edit]

Hi there, I am writing on your wall with regards to possible WP:COI with Poh Li San and Lim Wee Kiak. If you are affiliated with either party, their political party, either paid or unpaid, you will have a Conflict of Interest in creating and editing their pages.

This is not about having a neutral point of view. Please read up on the policy on COI and declare it. It is highly unusual that a very experienced editor, created 2 articles on 2 PAP politicians working in the same GRC within 30 main edits and 3 days, inclusive uploading non-free images from LinkedIn and PAP website. With a possible General Election within a year, this reads of a unpaid/paid editor working for the politicians. If you can declare your COI (or lack of), it will be good to clarify the air. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:37, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Justanothersgwikieditor: I do have an affiliation with both parties, but we are not of an extremely close relationship. Noticing both lacked Wikipedian articles and having prominence in the area of my residence, I decided to write a Wikipedia page on them. I have sourced all the information online, and have fact-checked it to the best of my abilities. I do not deny having asked them for minor information, but I too have backed all of these information up with sources I have sourced from online such as the official Parliament websites, and accredited newspapers such as Straits Times. I understand now that this can be a COI, and I will declare now that I am unpaid, and the article has been objectively written by me, and I invite editors to "clean" and scan the article for any form of unintended bias, and/or unsupported claims. I will excuse myself from further and future edits regarding the two concerned articles. I welcome you to edit and "clean" both articles. Do let me know if you have any questions. Wamprong (talk) 04:26, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Wamprong:Thanks for declaring your COI with regards to both parties and declared it on both articles. As you have shown a very high degree of competency of Wikipedia editing and understanding of rules and polices and perhaps deliberate avoidance of policy, it is pretty obvious you have edited Wikipedia previously. Please do edit only under 1 single username. I will highly advise you and your fellow "friends" to avoid creating/editing articles on Singapore's politics. The simple common link is that you are working/volunteering in the same organisation as both politicians. Per your wikipedia experience, you know where I am leading to. Please let us avoid all the extra unnecessary work on Wikipedia and it certainly does not reflect well on them. Thanks. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 06:47, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Justanothersgwikieditor: Unfortunately, I will be denying having asked or is aware of any fellow "friends" editing/creating articles on Singaporean political articles as this is simply not true. I will also deny having a separate account. The creation of both articles have been based on my thorough research of other related articles and mechanics. Though I will definitely admit once again the COI is an oversight on my part. However, as said, I will be stepping aside and stop editing / any involvement into both affected articles due to my COI. As mentioned earlier, feel free to monitor both articles and sanitise and edit wherever you deem necessary. Once again, this is my first and only account on Wikipedia and I look forward to contributing to other articles. Wamprong (talk) 07:28, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Wamprong: Hi, thanks for the follow up reply and your contributions to Wikipedia. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 07:41, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Lim Wee Kiak.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lim Wee Kiak.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. @Justanothersgwikieditor: Hi, thanks for bringing this up. I have realised an incorrect licence was used, and I will be reuploading the images. I will be letting them know to send a permission email to Wikipedia as required to use the image on Wikipedia. In the meantime, I have put a request for speedy deletion on both images and the request has been met. Once again, thanks for bringing this up. Wamprong (talk) 02:47, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
