Once it's been protected, it will need to go through deletion review to get an admin to unprotect the page. May I suggest that it would be easier if you create a draft of the new article before making the request. That way you can demonstrate that you have an acceptable article to put out there. To create a draft in your userspace, just click on this red link: User:Wawrulez/Douglas Harding. When you have an article ready to go, submit a request at Wikipedia:Deletion Review.
