Comments[edit]

Comments like this one aren't helpful.[1] Even when an editor is being uncivil that doesn't give everyone else permission to act the same way. See WP:CIVIL.   Will Beback  talk  22:44, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

West Bend, Wisconsin[edit]

Hey Westbender. Consider if you should announce a WP:COI on West Bend, Wisconsin. If you decide to do that, this will help a little if you place this on the article's Talk page:

      {{Connected contributor|Westbender|editedhere=yes}}

FWIW. Enjoy. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 20:58, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

why? Westbender (talk) 21:00, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's up to you. Read the policy and see if it applies. Or just ignore this suggestion. Your choice. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 21:08, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cue the scary music. And the laugh track. What a clown. --BalancedAndFair (talk) 23:07, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Are you suggesting that I have a conflict of interest regarding information pertaining to the city of West Bend, WI, simply because my login shares those letters? That's like me telling you that you should consider a COI if you wanted to edit articles on legitimacy or compel. Westbender (talk) 01:47, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It also has a tinge of "I know where you live." LAEC has long history of harassing and threatening librarians. (You can find more about this with a Google search.) I wonder if he's expanding his threats to Wiki editors. --BalancedAndFair (talk) 02:50, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is simply not true. Simply the name Westbender working on the page West Bend, Wisconsin, is what caused me to be courteous and suggest he may wish on his own to review WP:COI. There is no "tinge of 'I know where you live'".
Further, I do not have a "long history of harassing and threatening librarians". I don't even have a short history of that. Not even a single instance. On the other hand, librarians and library directors approach me regularly for help with the means to minimize the influence of the American Library Association's [ALA] policies that are creating dangerous conditions in their own libraries. They speak with me anonymously out of fear of repercussions from the ALA itself or from ALA acolytes. Repercussions include the kind of behaviour to which you are subjecting me right now. So really it's the total opposite of what you have said here, and I am happy to assist those who contact me. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 08:22, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Obsession with LAEC[edit]

Why is it that most of your edits have to do with user LegitimateAndEvenCompelling? It appears to be harassment. Drrll (talk) 13:53, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently we have common interests, although perhaps different perspectives. Looking at your recent edit history, you seem to be editing the same pages as LAEC as well....does that mean anything? Westbender (talk) 02:02, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you compare my edit history to LAEC's, you'll see that only a small percentage of articles we work on overlap. Your very first 2 edits were reverts of material LAEC added to 2 of the articles he has long worked on and a huge percentage of edits afterwards were to articles he has long worked on. Your first edits to user talk pages were to his talk page. To insult him you edited random pejorative articles like "Anal attentive" and added a message to him on your user page. Please stop harassing him. Drrll (talk) 14:06, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

Please don't put anything on your userpage meant to disparage another editor. It's disallowed by policy: WP:UP#POLEMIC, you may not have "Material that can be viewed as attacking other editors". Please keep in mind we're not lawyers here, and you can't get away with pretending that this sentence isn't attacking a certain editor. You are really quite free to add what you'd like to your userpage, but please don't put attacks on another editor. One person already got (has hammer) banhammered for being rude to LAEC. While I realize LAEC's behavior may be far from optimal, it doesn't excuse you doing the same. Two wrongs don't make a right. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:00, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

understood. Westbender (talk) 03:50, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! :) Magog the Ogre (talk) 05:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ex-gay and BRD[edit]

I explained that I would "hat" the section if no connection was made to the article content. I've since done so, partially because you made the lack of connection quite clear. Thanks and let's move on. Dylan Flaherty 03:51, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Post[edit]

Was this a threat of some sort? Since your very first edit was to revert LAEC[2], I would say that your not even two-month-old account is going to be "looked at" for "hounding" as well. Dylan Flaherty can defend himself: no need to "warn" another editor about anything. Does that sound acceptable? Cheers... Doc talk 22:52, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am already astounded by how you are following this editor around, and I haven't even started counting; just random sampling your edits. You've got some nerve accusing LAEC of hounding anyone, with your clear record of hounding that account. I suggest you find another target, Westbender. Doc talk 23:22, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

December 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Ego, as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. If there is a problem with the page, it should be edited or reverted to a previous version if possible; if you think the page should be removed entirely, see further information. Thank you. Adair2324 (talk) 04:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did not replace it with "blank content", but rather restored a long-standing redirect that is much better than the poorly created content by a recent editor. Please check your facts. Westbender (talk) 04:13, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's probably time for you to stop posting at User talk:LegitimateAndEvenCompelling. It's obvious he doesn't want you posting there, and if you have concerns try raising them at article talk pages or the appropriate noticeboards if you feel he has violated policy. AniMate 06:10, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You don't say![3] What a revelation... ;> Doc talk 06:13, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And so I'm just supposed to allow myself to be censored by bullies, rather than leaving legitimate comments/expression of concern ([4], [5], [6] on another user's talk page. Would you rather I create a sockpuppet if I have a concern to express to him? Westbender (talk) 19:15, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And I find it amusing you're piling on me about leaving simple comments on a user's talk page about his edits, while he's out there battling on talk pages 24/7, while doing little to actually improve articles. Look at my edit history; I'm actively improving the encyclopedia. Westbender (talk) 19:16, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You can do that without further interacting in a negative way with LAEC. Creating a sockpuppet to "express" any concerns is a bad idea. Doc talk 20:45, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you see problems with LAEC, go to an appropriate noticeboard (like WP:AN/I) and leave a report there. AniMate 18:42, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I Notification[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Outing by User:LegitimateAndEvenCompelling. Thank you. Doc talk 09:13, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

thanks. It appears that thread is closed. Westbender (talk) 21:11, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocks and accounts[edit]

When Wikipedia admins block an account or IP they are actually prohibiting the person using those identities from any further editing. WP:BLOCK. In other words, it isn't permissible for a person to come back to editing Wikipedia with a new name or IP address after they've been blocked, unless specifically allowed. There is a strong appearance that this account is used by the same person who edited previously and has been blocked already. It would greatly simplify the dispute resolution process if we could get that straight. Have you used other accounts or made significant edits without logging in? This is like the confessional - we can't absolve a sin unless it's been admitted and regretted. Or, you can just fade away. At the moment, LAEC is also blocked. He justifies some of his editing to counteract supposed editing by ALA partisans. Perhaps all sides could declare a truce and find other hobbies.   Will Beback  talk  11:46, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm on vacation, and I'm not someone who was previously blocked or a sockpuppet. I've largely ignored that account after multiple editors suggested I leave him alone. I've started editing other pages, but sometimes still have questions about his edits generally, although apparently I'm banned from posting questions on his talk page. Regardless, I'm not interested in his edit warring as it is tiresome given his stubbornness, etc. Westbender (talk) 21:10, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
