The scope and research for your article is great - not too ambitious, and highlighting themes within the broader history of youth athletics in America. I think it will fit in to the bigger article, and leave room for others who may want to elaborate on the history in other parts of the world. There are some places were I think you need to be more specific. For example, "Race has played a role in sports" is a bit vague -- what role? It sounds like you have enough evidence to state that sport was racially segregated (this would be important to explain - pretend your reader doesn't know what segregation was) and that sport perpetuated segregation (this is a bit trickier to prove - did sports associations actually argue to continue segregating athletics?). In any case, I think you need to be more specific at the beginning of the Race section.

I also have to call you out for a common mistake -- that of reducing gender to mean girls! Gender typically refers to both male and female gendered roles, femininity and masculinity. I suggest that you move any discussion of masculinity into the gender section (or add some references to sport and masculinity - the YMCA was big on it).

Just out of interest, have you come across any figures that indicate levels of participation in sport at different points in the twentieth century? They would make a useful addition, if you can find them.
