Sonnet/Group Choices[edit]

Provide a link to the sonnet article you have chosen to edit (For example, typing [[Sonnet 18]] will link to Sonnet 18). Then have all members of your group sign below the link by typing ~~~~. Be sure to check and see whether any other group has already taken your sonnet, in which case you will need to choose another one. Westhaddon (talk) 15:56, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sonnet page formatting[edit]

I take it the sonnet pages have been chosen as a school project. Please familiarise the students with the sonnet page style, of which the main feature is the sonnet template in the upper right of the page. Other than that, it's pretty much a free-for-all as long as it follows WP:MOS. Tom Reedy (talk) 05:13, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also may I suggest that if they want an image or if they want to include the original spelling version of their particular sonnet, that they include an image of the sonnet from the 1609 quarto, such as has been done to Sonnet 18 (though it would probably look better if they cropped the page so only the relevant sonnet is included, as in Sonnet 1. Tom Reedy (talk) 05:19, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tom, thanks for the suggestions. The sonnet articles are being submitted for GA status. Feel free to offer your comments on the pages in question so the students can see them and/or to review the pages for GA status as you like! Westhaddon (talk) 01:08, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Westhaddon, it would be great if you could familiarise the students with some of the basics of formatting on wikipedia, perhaps by pointing them to relevant sections in the Manual of Style if you have not already? Thanks Melcous (talk) 23:46, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, Westhaddon, and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are a course instructor leading a class project.

New to Wikipedia or want to learn about best practices for Wikipedia assignments?

Go through our online training for educators.

The training includes instructions for setting up a structured course page, with tools for tracking student work and encouraging peer review. Please also see this helpful advice for instructors.

If you run into problems or want some feedback on your Wikipedia assignment plans, try posting to the education noticeboard.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay after your assignment is finished! Chris Troutman (talk) 20:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Education Program[edit]

Hi. I noticed your post at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations.

I'm a campus ambassador within Wikipedia's Education Program. We help professors and students improve Wikipedia, including online training and guidance from ambassadors either online or in your classroom. As you've seen, other editors become curious when a batch of students show up at articles those editors have been working on. Participation in our formalized program gives you official Wikipedia support and a central point of contact between your course and the Wikipedia community.

I encourage you to take the online training, create a course page, and have your students sign-up to that course. Please also introduce yourself at our Education Noticeboard. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:39, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Helping with the GA Review backlog[edit]

Hello, and thank you for using Wikipedia as a Quality improvement and teaching tool !

Can you please help out the Wikipedia community with decreasing our GA Review backlogs?

Specifically, could you please ask your students that for every one article they nominate to WP:GAN, they take on two (2) nominations to then review themselves?

You can help them by showing them the Review Instructions at Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations/Instructions#Reviewing and the Good Article Criteria to review against, at WP:WIAGA.

Thank you,

Cirt (talk) 08:47, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
