vandalism

[edit]

To quote you "If I'm reading it right, you've bitten new contributing ips in the recent past and have in some cases warned them despite their edits not being vandalism. Unfortunately, due to your lack of understanding of the difference between vandalism and content dispute, you have left warning notes that are quite inappropriate, and which unfortunately have even contributed to ips being blocked." I would like to know which IPs I have warned incorrectly ? Bentogoa (talk) 11:24, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

EAR

[edit]

Hi Wifione. Since you got promoted recently to admin, I have seen you around a lot and have much appreciated your work. As one of only two or three regular contributors to EAR, I found your comment about EAR a bit unfair. Whether we choose to be admins, or to work in a help department, we are all volunteers and do our best by imparting some of the knowledge of the hugely complex Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Remember that this work also takes time away when we could be getting our own articles up to GA and FA. Perhaps, like one or two other admins, you could spare an occasional moment to drop in and lend a hand - you don't need to be a listed helper on the project. All the best for 2011 :) Kudpung (talk) 02:17, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kudpung, my best wishes for you and your family for the new year. My apologies for any comment I might have left that might have put EAR in bad light. Yet, I do not recall any such comment. Could you kindly link me up to the diff so I'll know the indiscretion? It's lovely to have you here on my talk page. Cheers Wifione ....... Leave a message 04:10, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Itùs on your talk page here above at russians and its talk page. In hindsight however, I may have been unfair, I thought you were referring to the EAR page as being in a mess, but perhaps, and more logically, you were referring to the Russia page. My appologies. --Kudpung (talk) 04:21, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As long as it makes you visit my talk page more often, it's alright :) Best wishes again. Wifione ....... Leave a message 04:23, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as I'm not an admin, if I see you are on line I might be dropping in now and again to ask a favour that I don't (yet) have the tools for ;) --Kudpung (talk) 04:35, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

re: rollback

[edit]

Hi - oh, that's okay. I'm not one of those admins who gets upset over something like that. If I had known he'd already asked privately, I would have deferred to your judgment, although it makes a little bell in my head ring to learn that he asked in more than one place. With you as a mentor, I'm sure he'll do just fine. Thanks for letting me know. :-) KrakatoaKatie 21:25, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Katie for the understanding. Best. Wifione ....... Leave a message 21:30, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for this. But I think it's just a kind of misunderstanding. First I asked Wifione based on discussion before. Then waited for 3 or 4 days. Because I did not get a respond, Then I went forhere. As far as I know I have not done anything wrong or better to say I do my best not to make mistakes. BTW, I think Katie was not in good mood when she read my request. Or maybe she was angry. She made me really disappointed. I wish I had waited longer (2 more days) for you Wifione. But still I am happy, because you judged me based on my actions and you believe that I am good. Not all admins feel or act the same. Some of them are very hard taking, but some are easy taking. *** in fact *** ( contact ) 05:44, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi In Fact, that's the exact kind of response that will ensure that you might be viewed negatively by other editors. Look, I mean good, so does Katie; and the community's trust has to be gained at various levels. You cannot disregard statements by other editors like Katie with a "I think Katie was not in good mood when she read my request." That is so not done. My view would be that you should from now on ensure that the points she has mentioned are kept in high regard and priority whenever you attempt to use rollback, a feature that should be only used while reverting clear vandalism. I'm there for help always, so are other editors; but your attitude has to be fantastically positive. Best regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 05:50, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did not want to disregard her at all. See the point is I did just like what you said after you refused to grant me the permission for the first time. I even made a list in my page to make it easy for you. I would be glad if you check all my recent actions during the last 2 months to see whether I have done anything wrong or not. *** in fact *** ( contact ) 06:00, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll assume that's equal to you saying that you'll not make any personal remark against any other editor, that you're sorry you said what you did sometime back against Katie, and that you'll be the best editor I've seen around :) Come back for any assistance; and please do not take this all negatively. Everybody's here to help. Best wishes and now start editing. Wifione ....... Leave a message 06:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This was a while ago, but not so long ago that it's not worth mentioning. I've unblocked this editor as they made a very believable claim that their username is a nickname representing them and that they set up a webpage under their nickname. It's cases like this (and, indeed, your own username!) that are the reason we should wait for the user to edit before deciding whether or not to block.Trying not to sound patronising, but also trying not to sound like I'm giving you a bollocking! Hello, Wifione. You have new messages at Aaron Brenneman's talk page.
Message added 05:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.[reply]

FYI Kudpung (talk) 05:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Kudpung :) Given that even the author of the essay JClemens has particularly no view on whether the essay is kept or not (I had a discussion with him on his talk page a couple of days back or so), I've not reverted Aaron's change (although I've added back the footnote on the differentiation between BLP1E and BIO1E, which he had perhaps inadvertently deleted partly). Also, if you've noticed, Aaron's allowed the link to the essay remain within the page, albeit in another section. If you scroll down the Notability page, you'll see it still out there. So, kind of, no problem as of now. Cheers. Wifione ....... Leave a message 05:53, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't doubt for a moment that Aaron does everything in GF, but I've noticed a couple of odd things in the past. he's left a message for me on that talk page, but it's only lmeft me even more confused than ever! Oh, well, let sleeping dogz. Cheers, --Kudpung (talk) 06:31, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

more edit warring

[edit]

Therequiembell & 70.164 have resumed edit warring (not approaching 3RR though), and have not made any attempt at communicating directly with each other, on the article talk pages, or to concerns expressed on TRB's talk page. I think perhaps an extended full protection of the pages concerned (there are numerous, see this, look at diffs) would be appropriate until there is communication. Regards, Spalds (talk) 21:03, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please edit the article on Russians and edit it correctly.

[edit]

Hey! Please edit the article on Russians. It should state that " "Russian" itself is ethnicity and Russkiy and Russian are the same". The right version of the article: The English term Russians is used to refer to the ethnic Russians (russkiye (sg. русский, russkiy). While citizens of Russia, regardless of their ethnicity (see demographics of Russia for information on other ethnic groups inhabiting Russia); in Russian, are referred to as rossiyane (россиянин, plural rossiyane).

It is a common sense. Why don't you understand this? —Precedingunsigned comment added by 91.79.112.103 (talk) 23:58, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I need your help in here. I am not able to make sure whether the ip editors are right or not. Best wishes, *** in fact *** ( contact ) 10:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've protected the page for three days from new and unregistered editors. What could you do?
  1. Undo the changes and revert to the last correct version (your version). I'll do it for you this time.
  2. Check the page for clear errors - for example, blog sites from wordpress and even blogs from New York Times are not acceptable. So remove these links and the statements that have been placed in the article referring to these blog sites.
  3. Leave a note on the discussion pages of these ips to come down to the talk page of the article and discuss the correct version. Be open to their suggestions and engage them like a proactive positive editor. Come back for any further help. Wifione ....... Leave a message 10:41, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about the mistakes; if you think you can make it better, go ahead and try it out. Don't get worried if other editors revert the changes or make changes to your edits. Hi. Just to make sure: did you put the same username notice on all the usernames that express support of athletic teams? I'd be surprised if there are fewer than a thousand. There's no policy against using one's username to root for a sports team; in fact, it's common practice. --jpgordon::==( o ) 17:52, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JP. Good to see you here. Actually, the user name policy doesn't quite enumerate what you mention; and we generally go by community practice on what's right and what's wrong. If you notice my reply on NYyankees talk page (at the same moment you left a note out here), you'll notice that I'm more or less ok with your, and Case's perspective - thanks and best. WikiPilipinas

[edit]

I have been busy writing articles about Philippine subjects. I have run into some articles in WikiPilipinas. Is this site in any way associated with Wikipedia? Sometimes articles are on both sites word for word. Usually, however, there are vast differences, if articles even appear on both sites. Bill Pollard (talk) 08:26, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Bill. No, the site WikiPilipinas is not associated with Wikipedia. As both sites use the same mediawiki software, and as WikiPilipinas perhaps wishes to piggy-saddle on the brand recall and positioning of Wikipedia, the similarities are quite blatant :) Take care. Barnstar Awarded!

[edit]
The Barnstar of Integrity
To Wifione in recognition of a plea for further consideration, of a close !vote at an Rfa, at the 'crat noticeboard - despite !voting against the candidate in question. This shows an uncommonly even-handed approach which is to be commended; hence, this Barnstar in celebration of your extremely sound moral fiber. Thanks for leading the way at Wikipedia! Jusdafax 01:55, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh my thank you very much Jusdafax! I have to confess, I was all along a borderline case in this RfA and in fact, I changed my !vote quite at the last hour to support. I would understand totally if you might wish to withdraw this barnstar in light of my delayed support to the RfA, but my appreciation remains wholeheartedly to the gesture. Tis rare and quite a great way to end one's evening :) My sincerest regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 04:35, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
However you had not changed it at the time you asked the 'crats to give further consideration. Also, your demeanor throughout the posts at the Rfa and the 'crat board have been exemplary, so I consider the barnstar well deserved. I hand very few out, and when I do, I truly mean them!
