Connor Reilly (spelling?)[edit]

WO-9, when I was replacing the infobox on this article yesterday, I discovered several sources that indicated his first name is properly spelled with a single "n," not two. If you have time, you may want to confirm and move the article if appropriate. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:57, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure its Conor. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 19:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

TfD: screwed-up merge of Template:Infobox Arena Football player, etc[edit]

This is actually correct: [1]. The problem is that AndyMabbett proposed an erroneous merge at TfD in February 2014, notified none of the affected football WikiProjects, and five non-sports editors (and one casual editor of Arena Football articles) signed off on the merge. As a practical matter, it doesn't matter too much. Arena Football player articles are supposed to use Infobox NFL player, not Infobox gridiron football person, and the overwhelming majority of the 3,500 Arena Football players do use the proper template. (There were 60 Arena player articles that still used the Arena player infobox at the time of the TfD, and presumably at least some of those were erroneously replaced with the gridiron football person infobox.) The larger problem, such as it is, is this redirect suggests that the proper template is Infobox gridiron football person, when that is incorrect. I've already left a message on Frietjes' talk page, where Magioladitis had left an update regarding the orphaning of the template. I am going to raise the issue with Magioladitis, and see what he thinks is the quickest to resolve the misleading redirect. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:21, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for trying to fix it. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 23:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dirtlawyer1 WP:BEBOLD and fix the redirect's target. The core idea of the TfD was that the Infobox Arena Football player can be replaced by some other infobox. From there we can choose what fits best. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 07:22, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Magioladitis:. Thank you for your response. Your "non-bureaucratic" suggestion is in the spirit of IAR, and we will proceed accordingly -- and revise the redirect page to accurately reflect the correct template that should be used in lieu of the now deleted Template:Infobox Arena Football player. Also, could you offer your thoughts when you believe it is appropriate to delete and redirect a deprecated template, as opposed to tagging it with a "deprecated template" notice while preserving the template page for historical reference? Over the next several months, two or three disused American football templates will have their remaining transclusions manually replaced with the standardized templates in current use, and I would like to know what you think is appropriate. Personally, I would like to delete the disused templates outright, in order to prevent their potential erroneous use in the future . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:51, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dirtlawyer1 I would suggest histmerge if fields of the older templates were used. Otherwise, keep them form 6 months (...or a year) and delete them as unused redirects if nobody keeps adding them. Meanwhile, warn any editor still adding them and update WP:AWB/TR. -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:29, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Magioladitis. Sounds like good, common-sense advice. I'm not an admin, so we will probably bug you again in 6 months to perform the suggested histmerge. In the mean time, I'm going to change the redirect to what WO-9 had before he self-reverted in an abundance of caution, and add an explanatory note regarding the TfD and the proper template for redirect. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:39, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WO-9, I think the revamped redirect does what we need it to do. Magioladitis has signed off on it. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 12:01, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good move, thanks again. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 13:53, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed number of columns deprecated[edit]

FYI: Template talk:Reflist/Archive 25#Deprecating fixed number of columns {{reflist|2}}

Even the fixed width option ({{reflist|30em}}) causes problems for some, and there is no compelling reason for its use unless the page consistently uses short footnotes. I like {{reflist}}. Why do you still switch pages to deprecated 2-column display?
Cheers. —Telpardec  TALK  19:16, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
30em doesn't look good with less than about 14 references. I think you might have wrote your message wrong btw, not sure what your trying to say sry. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 00:23, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tons of hard work, I get blocked for apparently being one of 55 sockpuppets of someone and no one cares. RIP WikiOriginal-9. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 01:53, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know what happened here and would like to. I have found WikiOriginal-9 to be a very hard worker and highly productive editor in the areas where I've encountered him or her. I hope this is a mistake. Cbl62 (talk) 02:12, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with Cbl62 here, WikiOriginal has done excellent work here with NFL, AFL and CFL articles. He has quickly become one of my favorite editors, so I truly hope this is a mistake and his block is reversed, because his contributions would be sorely missed.--Yankees10 04:58, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, but there was much more in CU logs than just socking via USer134353a. I'd be happy to discuss details, but preferably with checkuser and/or someone who dealt with Cow cleaner 5000. Materialscientist (talk) 05:14, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok as an explanation of the events, I made one edit under User:USer134353a to the Justin Knapp talk page. It was just a spur of the moment philosophical question. For a short version of the reasoning, I just didn't use WikiOriginal-9 because I thought the comment might be controversial and people would think I was just being bias because of my amount of edits. I didn't put much thought into it. They might think I want my own article or something. I was just trying to be neutral for one random comment and do not like to attract controversy. It was not in bad faith. Sry for any confusion. I have been blocked for apparently being a sockpuppet of User:Cow cleaner 5000 as all of his sockpuppets seemed to be in opposition to Justin Knapp, judging by the usernames. I have no affiliation to Cow Cleaner 5000 lol. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 02:30, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to actually revoke talk page access; done now. "Don't wanna make another request but can't get anyone's attention otherwise." They obviously did not want to make a genuine unblock request. By now they also admitted to using sockpuppetry to avoid scrutiny. We're done here. Huon (talk) 02:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon:, @Materialscientist:, and @PhilKnight:: as @Cbl62: and @Yankees10: have done above, I can also testify to WikiOriginal-9's good editing and collaboration over the past few months. His edit on the Justin Knapp talk page was silly in at least two ways, but he clearly wasn't intending to subvert the integrity of the project. And this one slip-up shouldn't negate all of his other contributions, nor should it foreclose the chance for him to make more productive contributions in the future. It would be a real shame for us to lose him for good on Wikipedia. He's been blocked now for nearly two weeks now. What can he, and we, do to get him unblocked? Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 08:50, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jweiss11: You can do nothing to get him unblocked. WikiOriginal-9 could avail himself of the venues pointed out in the message box above if he wanted to be unblocked and could provide a good explanation for whatever the CheckUser logs show (which I don't have access to) and assure us that the problems don't recur. Personally I wouldn't hold my breath, both in light of his stated desire not to make another unblock request and due to the salami slicing of his admissions. Huon (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Huon: Something does not add up here. WikiOriginal-9 was a remarkably productive and collegial editor over a period of ten months, performing volumes of needed and unheralded clean-up and participating in dozens of talk page discussions, and never showing any of the signs of misbehavior at issue here. It would be remarkable to have an individual who was performing the volume of productive edits under one completely positive guise, and then engaged in the number of serious acts of vandalism attributed to the Cow Cleaner 5000 sock farm. Your blocking of his talk page privileges has precluded him from availing himself of the easiest and most direct route for requesting an unblock, and I see no "abuse" of talk page privileges above, only a first-time blocked user fumbling for the right words of contrition regarding his only act of admitted sock-puppetry (and a pretty trivial and innocuous talk page comment, too). Since you are apparently not privy to the checkuser details yourself, are you the most appropriate administrator to be imposing indefinite blocks and revoking talk page privileges?

@Materialscientist: How conclusive is that checkuser data linking WikiOriginal-9 to these other miscreant sockpuppets, including Cow Cleaner 5000? We have lost a remarkably productive and collegial editor in WikiOriginal-9, apparently on the basis of checkuser details that cannot be revealed on-wiki. Is there any room for doubt or misinterpretation based on the checkuser evidence? I don't stick my neck out for serial sockpuppets, and I have a history of pursuing serial sock-puppets at SPI rather than seeking their rehabilitation. That being said, unless WikiOriginal-9 has been definitively proven to be the wiki equivalent of Jekyll and Hyde, I would hope that you, Huon, and the other concerned administrators would consider some of testimonials above by long-time editors. As I said above, something about Wiki-Original-9 as Cow Cleaner 5000 does not add up. The rest of us are being asked to accept this on faith; could some explanation be provided without breaching your checkuser confidentiality obligations? We're not looking for legal names, street addresses or IP numbers. Regards, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:19, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have not imposed the indefinite block and removed talk page access only after WikiOriginal-9 explicitly said they did not want to make another unblock request. If they didn't mean what they said, there are still other venues open to them. Huon (talk) 13:55, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We now have three respected editors (Yankees10, Jweiss11, Dirtlawyer 1) and me all expressing shock at the indefinite block of WO9 and also attesting to his diligence and good faith in editing sports-related pages. I suggest that, at a minimum, WO9's talk page privileges be restored, as there is absolutely no risk of vandalism in allowing him to speak here. There is, in contrast, a significant risk that a valued colleague is being permanently silenced and banished without having the opportunity even to defend himself. Cbl62 (talk) 19:47, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I support restoring talk page access and would be willing to discuss the block (though I surely I won't comment much on CU data here), which has nothing to do with WO9's being a diligent editor. I had a second thought on CU data, and there is always a chance I'm missing something. So far they reveal that either WO9 is the good-hand account of Cow Cleaner 5000, actually preceding him, or that there is a coincidence of several unlikely events. Materialscientist (talk) 21:48, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Cow_cleaner_5000, the socks, among other things, troll Justin Knapp and his Wikipedia account. WikiOriginal-9 admits to socking and making one edit at Talk:Justin Knapp that question's the attention given to Knapp. According to Materialscientist, that sock of WO-9 technically matches up with Cow cleaner 5000 and their socks. Ok, maybe a very unfortunate coincidence. WO-9 is a pretty prolific editor, sometime on marathon sessions; see the time breakdown here. You would think there should be some overlap with edits of Cow's socks if this was merely a coincidence. So I randomly pick some accounts, but really can't find any overlapping times. When W0-9 is on, there is apparently so socking by Cow. Here are some close edit times that I have seen:

WikiOriginal-9 stops editing at 22:23, 13 October 2014 [3]
User:Justin A. Knapp starts at 22:26, 13 October 2014 [4]

WO-9 stops at 00:29, 6 October 2014 [5]
User:Roy Tripp edits 00:42 - 00:55 6 October 2014 [6]
WO-9 starts back at 01:07, 6 October 2014

WO-9 stops at 03:09, 4 October 2014 with one more edit at 03:41, 4 October 2014 [7]
User:Flo lo go starts at 03:36, 4 October 2014 [8]

W0-9 stops at 20:52, 21 October 2014 [9]
User:Vincent9437 Starts at 21:17, 21 October 2014 [10]

WO-9 stops at 21:38, 25 October 2014 [11]
User:Vincent9437 edits 23:18–23:24 25 October 2014 [12]
W0-9 starts at 00:06, 26 October 2014

Either WO-9 is suffering from extremely bad timing and socked that one edit on the Knapp article, that is unfortunately being heavily scrutinized. Or WO-9 is the good hand here. As WP:GAB says: "If you are improperly blocked for sockpuppetry, you should realize that it may not always be easy or even possible to correct the situation."—Bagumba (talk) 23:25, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've considered time overlap (for a few related accounts), but this is not a strong factor in CU work - for example, it is easy to edit from two accounts in two web browsers. Materialscientist (talk) 00:01, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Materialscientist, at are you at liberty to describe what it is that makes you think WikiOriginal-9 and his admitted sock, USer134353a, are the same person as Cow cleaner 5000 and his farm of socks? Jweiss11 (talk) 06:22, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You mean "am I .. ?" Yes. Interested regulars can sign up here and I'll explain, by email. Materialscientist (talk) 06:32, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be interested in an email.—Bagumba (talk) 07:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Materialscientist, sorry for the typo above. Yes, that's what I meant. I'm interested in that email as well. Jweiss11 (talk) 07:25, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Materialscientist: Understood that editing at the same time doesn't totally absolve the possibility of socks. However, in this case, they are not editing at the same time, and WO-9 often edits for long stretches, so it is peculiar there is not some overlap if they truly were different. Behaviorial evidence seems in sync with your technical CU observations. Again, the only explanation would be sheer bad luck on WO-9's part, which seems to be a huge stretch.—Bagumba (talk) 07:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Propose Monitor of This User[edit]

WikiOriginal-9 has been banned before and I strongly implore the community monitor his actions. It appears as if he is undoing large amounts of correction edits in order to contribute to his post account and +character number. Which is to say... when someone else removes something from a page he comes in an undos the removal which nets his a positive character count he didnt have to write. It appears as if he is making pages messier to manipulate his contribution history.

Often, users are correcting him multiple times for undoing actions and his long history provides a false sense of trust. He focuses mostly on undoing anything relevant to football pages which appears to be the subject he feels most comfortable with.

He is defacing thousands of pages and throwing away thousands of hours of man labor edits across the community. User was banned and allowing him to come back has cost the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rpr10 (talkcontribs) 14:52, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox college football player[edit]

WO-9, do you have time to start checking a significant number of the college football player articles that used Template:Infobox college football player? There have been significant changes to the template coding in the past 48 hours, and we need to check a big sample of the articles that presently use the template and keep a list of any problems with how it being displayed or any problems with the input data that needs to be edited. Any time you have to devote to this in the next day or so would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:06, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's presently under discussion, but I don't think so. RE: Tackle vs End[edit]

That's ok. I can leave Brandon Dunn's position as a defensive tackle since the season hasn't started and no official depth chart has Brandon Dunn as a 3-4 defensive end. Which is what he will be when the Bears do move to the 3-4. NFL.com also doesn't update player profiles often. In some cases, they don't have some players positions correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.47.121.49 (talk) 22:10, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Color graphics for Infobox college football player[edit]

WO-9, here's a taste of how the revamped infobox is going: Template:Infobox college football player/testcases#Joe Cool (typical example). What do you think of the colors, graphics, and layout and design? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:44, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Colors look good, should probably ask for some opinions to see if people want to move the personal information down. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 18:37, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's still to be determined, whether "Personal information" is the second or third section within the infobox. I'm happy to put that to a vote when we hold the mini-RfC to finalize which parameters and links get added and which get removed from the template. I expect we will do that in the next couple of weeks, after the dust settles on the template talk page. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:46, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bob Humphreys (American football) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Notables MUST have sources[edit]

Your recent edit added a notable to the article for Sterling High School (New Jersey) without a source. Wikipedia policy requires that such entries have reliable and verifiable sources supporting the notable's connection to the school. How do you know he attended the school? If you don't have the source, why add the entry to the article? If you do have a source, why not add it to the article when you add the entry? This is a matter of fundamental policy that must be observed in all articles. Further such entries will be deleted. Alansohn (talk) 20:09, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. To echoh what Alan said above, this is another example. I appreciate you improving the articles by adding notable residents to them, but please include citations of sources with them. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 14:11, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Small font in infoboxes[edit]

I noticed that you decreased the size of font in the infobox of Freddie Bishop III. As per WP:FONTSIZE, using small text within an infobox that already has a reduced text size is against style guidelines. This has to do with accessibility for those with vision issues. Text that small can be extremely difficult to read. This is a widespread problem that I'm working on fixing in articles that use Template:Infobox gridiron football person. Please try to avoid using small text in infoboxes, to ensure that Canadian football articles are complying with WP:FONTSIZE. Thanks! ~ RobTalk 16:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Qu'est-ce que c'est "NFL"?[edit]

I notice that you recently edited the "Notable people" section of Pender, Nebraska to add someone described as "NFL player" (diff).

Could I suggest that when you add professional athletes to such lists, you give the sports name rather than the league's initials, e.g. "Professional American football player"? Readers outside the U.S. are unlikely to know what "NFL" or "MLB" or "NBA" mean. If we name the sport, then such readers won't have to chase a link. — Ammodramus (talk) 00:25, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dewayne Douglas[edit]

Nice add, but shouldn't the title be moved to "Dewayne Douglas?" Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:50, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thx, NFL.com says Edward Douglas, Dewayne is his middle name. You can change it if u want. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 01:52, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like he went by his middle name (see player card used for infobox photo). If so, the article title follows WP:COMMONNAME. There also appears to be some question whether his first name was Everett or Edward. I'll check the UF alumni association directory and see if we can't solve that mystery. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:56, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure the Everett thing is a mistake copied among stat sites. The obituary news article used as a reference in the article says "Edward Dewayne Douglas" and oldestlivingprofootball.com does too and that site is pretty much always right from my experience with it. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 02:01, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
He definitely went by his middle name: [13]. I had not made the connection between his time as a college player and his time as a Gators assistant a decade later until I saw your edit to the Gatorade article. He was the coach who approached Cade about player dehydration and urination, even before Ray Graves got involved. Good story. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 05:04, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The 2015 media guide lists him as "E. Dewayne Douglas," lettered in 1951 and 1952, and was a third-team All-SEC selection in '52. The UFAA online alumni directory no longer provides information about deceased alumni after a recent restructuring of the website. Next time I'm down at the storage unit, I will pull my hard-copy of the 2000 University of Florida alumni directory -- it usually includes the full names of alumni as they were recorded by the university registrar. Pending merge of Infobox NFL coach[edit]

Hey, WO-9. Looks like the oft-delayed merge of Infobox NFL coach into Infobox NFL player is finally going to happen. DeeJayK has taken the lead in cleaning up the code and eliminating redundant legacy parameters, with help from Primefac and Bagumba. The next step is going to require some manual editing to conform the team tenures and highlights data to the standard formatting used for Infobox NFL player. There are 340 transclusions of the template that will need manual editing, and I am trying to recruit 7 to 10 editors to help with this task, probably starting some time next week. Are you available to help? If we can split this 7 to 10 ways, it should be a very manageable task. Please let me know. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:42, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, it shouldn't take very long to finish if several people do several each day. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 23:43, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Splitting the task into manageable chunks was my thought too, but we need editors who are familiar with NFL/AFL/NCAA teams, history, awards, etc., to reformat the data, but also to recognize existing errors as they go. You were one of the first people I thought of. I'll ping you as we get ready. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:50, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
