This IP is a sock of prolific sockmaster Cadeken. See WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Cadeken/Archive, who has created dozens of accounts and used even more IPs. The editing pattern is identical. Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since June. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

Drive: Of the 22 editors who signed up for our July Backlog Elimination Drive, 18 copy-edited, between them, 116 articles. Barnstars awarded are noted here.

Blitz: Participants in our August Copy Editing Blitz copy-edited 51,074 words in 17 articles. Of the 15 editors who signed up, 11 claimed at least one copy-edit. Barnstars awarded are noted here.

Drive: Forty-one editors took part in our September Backlog Elimination Drive; between them they copy-edited 199 articles. Barnstars awards are noted here.

Blitz: Our October Copy Editing Blitz begins on 16 October at 00:01 (UTC) and will end on 22 October at 23:59 (UTC). Barnstars awarded will be posted here.

Progress report: As of 19:57, 12 October 2022 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 303 requests for copy edit – including withdrawn and declined ones – since 1 January. At the time of writing, there are 77 requests awaiting attention and the backlog of tagged articles stands at 1,759. We always need more active, skilled copyeditors – particularly for requests – so please get involved if you can.

Election news: In our mid-year election, serving coordinators Baffle gab1978, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Reidgreg and Tenryuu were returned for another term, and were joined by new coordinator Zippybonzo. No lead coordinator was elected for this half-year. Jonesey95, a long-serving coordinator and lead, was elected as coordinator emeritus; we thank them for their service. Thank you to everyone who took part. Our next election of coordinators takes place throughout December. If you'd like to help out at the GOCE, please consider nominating yourself or other suitable editors (with their permission, of course!). It's your Guild, after all!

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Guild of Copy Editors December 2022 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since October. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

Blitz: Our October Copy Editing Blitz focused on July and August 2022 request months; and articles tagged for c/e in December 2021 and January 2022. Seventeen of those who signed up claimed at least one copy-edit, and between them copy-edited forty-six articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Drive: In the November Backlog Elimination Drive, thirty editors signed up, twenty-two of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Both target months—December 2021 and January 2022—were cleared, and February was added to the target months. Sixteen requests were copy-edited and 239 articles were removed from the backlog. Blitz: Our seven-day-long December 2022 Copy Editing Blitz begins on 17 December at 00:01 (UTC)*. It will focus on articles tagged for copy-edit in February 2022, and pending requests from September and October. Barnstars awarded will be available here.

Election news: Nomination of candidates for the GOCE's Election of Coordinators for the first half of 2023 is open and continues until 23:59 on 15 December. Voting begins at 00:01 on 16 December and closes at 23:59 on 31 December. All editors in good standing (not under ArbCom or community sanctions) are eligible and self-nominations are welcomed. Coordinators serve a six-month term that ends at 23:59 on June 30. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, please nominate yourself or any editor you consider suitable—with their permission, of course!. It's your Guild and it doesn't coordinate itself.

You also, have accused other(s) of warring and being disruptive. Your actions, of repeatedly reverting edits to your opinion of what you believe is right, is edit warring. You did not raise the issue on the talk page. You did not seek a consensus, despite you knowing that two editors disagree with your edits. Yet you repeatedly reverted edits to your opinion of what you believe is right. Additionally, accusing others of edit warring, whilst your conduct demonstrates your edit war, shows a lack of good faith from you towards others

Today you have continued to edit war. You are engaging in original research and you conflating issues. Again, the individuals are charged with assault. The Licensed attorney in the State of Tennessee is seeking conviction for assault under Tennessee law. You are ignoring the charges to advance your personal opinion of what you think is right. The former officers are charged with assault. The Prosecutors knows better than you about criminal act is alleged to been committed. Please read wikipedia policies on bias, war editing, good faith, no original research. Also please pay particular attention to WP policies, guidelines on reliable sources; news agencies are not reliable for opinions. As the laws of Tennessee define criminal acts, a 3rd party news agency is disingenuous in not using the proper terminology as defined by the laws of Tennessee. Warning, combative behavior, and lack of good faith

AgntOtrth. I don't know what to say. Your edits were terrible. I edit in good faith. Please slow your roll. Wikipedia is not about making redundant and repetitive additions to articles. Somebody needs to guide you positively and constructively, so you can become a productive and valuable contributor to the Wikipedia community. Here are some steps you can follow to understand the importance of avoiding redundant additions: Wikipedia is an encyclopedic resource where the aim is to provide comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date information to its readers. Redundant information does not serve this purpose and only makes the articles longer and harder to read. Your edits introduced only redundant information in the article and that is unnecessary. Please understand that duplicate information should be avoided (except in the lead). Please read the article first: Before making any changes, it's important to read the entire article and understand what information is already covered. This will prevent you from adding information that's already been included before or after your edits. Try using the "Show Preview" button to see how your changes will look before you publish them. This will give you a chance to review your changes and avoid adding redundant information. If you make a mistake, go back and fix it. No worries. In the meantime, please find better ways to contribute. I encourage you to find other ways to contribute to Wikipedia, such as writing articles on topics that haven't been covered, adding sources and references, or improving the quality of existing articles. By following these steps, you can someday become a valuable contributor to the Wikipedia community and avoid making redundant additions to articles and getting reverted or scolded. Carry on. Redundant redundancy

AgntOtrth. The phrase "violently battered" is not necessarily redundant, as the word "battered" can refer to physical or emotional damage that has been inflicted on someone or something. However, adding the word "violently" can add emphasis to the extent of the damage being inflicted and make the statement more descriptive. In this sense, the word "violently" serves to further clarify the nature of the battering. So while the phrase may not be strictly redundant, it can still add more information to the sentence. General Ization - I was in the process of finessing my edit when you rudely and abruptly deleted it. You are missing the point of citations, and patrolling. Deletion is reserved for original research, vandalism, etc. -- otherwise it should be edited, or discussed. Step away from the Twinkle. It overstates the guideline. Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday

Hi!

Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.

Nested {{rcat shell}} in redirects?

I've noticed the majority of Category:Miscellaneous redirects has 2 rcat shells inside of each other, either created or categorized by you (example). The first few times I saw this I removed them assuming it to be a mistake, but now I'm wondering whether I'm doing something wrong. Were these on purpose (if so, what are they there for)? Hey, Snowmanonahoe – I just started doing that recently, on the advice of somebody. Paine Ellsworth would know who coached me. I was puzzled too. Firstly, the shell has magic powers; secondly, it's ready and waiting to add more Rcats; thirdly there are gnomes with tools and when they launch their Rcat maintenance tool on an existing uncategorized redirect, it adds a shell, even to one Rcat. Wow, I never knew this before. As an aside, I add {{This is a redirect}} if I need help setting some Rcats. People like Paine are triggered to come in, remove that Rcat, and put in the germane Rcats. Snowmanonahoe – Okay, so it only populates the misc Rcat if it's not populated? Or, does nesting it also populate the misc Rcat? I use it singley when I don't know any germane Rcats. That has worked well. What's the best setup if I know a few Rcats, not all, and maybe not sure? My point is to pull in fresh eyes like yours. Thanks. Take care. I got your email. I don't have a particular view on any time lapse – I don't like moving to draft at all but I don't intend to argue my case. I'm unfamiliar with 3RR matters so I don't know whether your block was proper or whether the other party should have been blocked as well. I nearly always practice 0RR myself on the basis that if there is an important matter someone else can sort it out (by the way I don't recommend this way of editing!) Best wishes. Good to see you back Wayne. I don't think there's any guidelines that say when you should archive a thread on ANI (though I could be wrong and would be interested in a link to some if they exist). Certainly an involved editor should never close a discussion, (see WP:CLD) but archiving a closed thread is more of a menial maintenance task in my view. Personally I'd leave it for a bot to do. Anyway, Wayne, since Bbb23 reverted the archiving, it was probably not a good idea to revert them and archive it again - you're getting close to edit warring, and you want to be avoiding that impression at all costs at the moment. Hi, Ritchie333. That particular AN section is mostly online defamation of living people, willfully performed by living people. To that end, archiving is one method of mitigating the damage to these living people. Leaving it in the clear continues to damage these living people. Although it does not address the defamation damages, archiving hopefully mitigates it. Please figure out a way to quash and manage such defaming comments going forward, especially when the defaming comments are a super majority of the section. Your hands are fairly clean in that AN section. You take care. PS: Maybe a better name for AN would be HFGDB (High Fives & Grave Dancing Board) as there was not much or any citing to back up all the online defaming. Wayne, I think you need to draw a line under this. The block was placed to prevent disruption; I cannot emphasise this enough - it's nothing personal. I suggest you forget all about this, and move on to improving articles again. Elsewhere on the internet, I've argued with people why Britain leaving the EU was a bad idea, and why Boris Johnson should never be allowed to run a country, and got abusive replies in response much worse than what you received at the noticeboard. I never replied to those comments, I just privately thought "that person is an idiot and I'm ignoring them" rather than complaining about being bullied or abused by the language used. I would suggest doing that. As Marcus Aurelius wrote - ""What? art offended by other men's badness? teach them then, or bear with them."

I urge to you drop the matter, otherwise another admin may consider issuing another block to quell the disruption, and you will find it difficult to extract yourself from the situation. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:53, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Ritchie333 – Which block? #1 stopped nothing. The three of us were fixing things. The first block ignited things.
Bbb23 blocked more things igniting the situation more and gating off all communication avenues.
The block edit message says to email the blocking admin. Then Bbb23 went on the wiki to grave dance that they had blocked me for emailing them. Plus, they did not respond to the email. More gasoline on the fire. More defamation. More damage to living people.

Hello and welcome to the March 2023 newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since December and our Annual Report for 2022. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. We extend a warm welcome to all of our new members, including those who have signed up for our current March Backlog Elimination Drive. We wish you all happy copy-editing.

Election results: In our December 2022 coordinator election, Reidgreg and Tenryuu stepped down as coordinators; we thank them for their service. Incumbents Baffle gab1978, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis and Zippybonzo were returned as coordinators until 1 July. For the second time, no lead coordinator was chosen. Nominations for our mid-year Election of Coordinators open on 1 June (UTC).

Drive: 21 editors signed up for our January Backlog Elimination Drive, 14 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 170 articles totaling 389,737 words. Barnstars awarded are here.

Blitz: Our February Copy Editing Blitz focused on October and November 2022 requests, and the March and April 2022 backlogs. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine claimed at least one copy-edit; and between them, they copy-edited 39,150 words in 22 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Drive: Sign up now for our month-long March Backlog Elimination Drive. Barnstars awarded will be posted here after the drive closes.

Progress report: As of 12:08, 19 March 2023 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 73 requests since 1 January 2023, all but five of them from 2022, and the backlog stands at 1,872 articles.
