reworking page[edit]

christine cusanelli

I appreciate that Bearcat. What is the best way to work this through. As you can probably tell, I have little expertise on this site so, where to begin?

Hello and welcome. I am assuming you are refering to Christine Cusanelli. First of all, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a promotional site or one that hosts official profiles. We try to fairly and neutrally report what independent reliable sources have said on a topic. As a former minister, Cusanelli is a notable public figure and so it is very unlikely the article about her will be deleted. While it is important to be sensitive regarding the reputations of living people, her role in expense scandals in Alberta was reported in the CBC, a very reliable source. The paragraph as written now is quite balanced and reflects the source IMO. It presents adequate balancing material pointing to the fact she was likely unaware of the rules, and did repay the money involved. The extra paragraph about the hotel deposits was poorly sourced and user:Bearcat very properly removed it.
However, the information you added was sourced to non-independent sources and seemed to go into unreasonable amounts of detail on matters of her schooling and employment history which were never noted by third-party sources. The fact that the information was in a promotional tone and formatted like a CV did not add to the neutrality of the article.
Essentially, articles, especially those about controversial topics or living people should be well sourced, using independent sources as much as possible. They should be written neutrally. If you have further concerns about the article, I suggest you discuss directly with Bearcat as they are more familiar with the situation and are very experienced. Happy editing! I'm actually not the original writer of the page, or of any of the content you've taken issue with — I really haven't ever had very much involvement with the article at all, except for the occasional touch of formatting, category or template maintenance. I do understand your issue with some of the content, but Wikipedia articles aren't allowed to simply be completely overwritten with a person's own résumé or with content that reads like a campaign brochure. We'd be more than happy to work with you to improve the article in a way that still follows our content and sourcing and formatting rules, I assure you, but we do have to be just as cautious about not tipping over into pure public relations fluff as we do about not tipping over into attack page territory. Autobiography[edit]

Information icon Please do not write or add to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:01, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
